A few days before, our kids and their friends were trying to live out their espionage dreams and tried picking the front door deadbolt lock by inserting blades of grass and twigs in it. Somehow, even after removing all the debris from the keyhole, when the key was inserted the deadbolt would not move. Tim came and fixed the issue with our front door lock quickly. My wife did not know this when I first called but it turns out that Tim lives up the street from us and of course, refused to charge us for his services! We'll be using him again if we ever need to. So grateful to have such a reliable and knowledgeable locksmith as a neighbor!

Udi is a great guy, very dog friendly and just friendly in general. My dog usually doesn't stop barking at strangers, but for some reason he didn't stop licking Udi the whole time he was there. I had to pry him off of him to let him work. I had a great experience and will definitely keep his number for next time.

First time ever locking myself out of the house. Bummer. I called Chiko's to get into the house…read more When I called, I was quoted $150 to $230 depending upon the difficultly. Chiko called someone else who did get to the house within 15 mins. Definitely prompt. I asked the person who showed up how much. He said it could be tricky etc... Anyway, it took this person 2 mins to open the door. I was then charged $239! For a job that took all of 5 mins if you include his getting out of and back into his van. On top of that, this person was furious when I told him what I was quoted. He told me they charge so much because of his car, insurance etc... I didn't have an issue with the $150 (although it took 5 mins). I do have an issue with the guy who showed up, charging me an extra $90. The tech who came to the house was super scary. I gave him the money because I definitely thought he was unhinged.

At 11:19 a.m., the technician, Israel (443-218-2637), called me. He provided a price quote and an estimated arrival window. He arrived within that stated time. When he arrived, I was unable to locate the key. He advised that he could still complete the job. He removed the lock from my door and stated that he would return within 30 minutes. By 3:00 p.m., he had not returned. At 3:41 p.m., I contacted Israel. He stated that he was in traffic and had to go to two other locations but would return in 30 minutes. After that call, he did not return and did not answer additional calls. I then contacted A1 Affordable Locksmith and was told that a manager would return my call. I called again at 6:39 p.m. and was given the same response. At 7:12 p.m., I contacted Israel and informed him that I no longer wanted his services and requested that he return my lock. He stated that he had taken another job and was 13 miles away. After additional unsuccessful attempts to resolve the matter, I informed Israel that I would contact the police. He responded that this would not be necessary. I then contacted Anne Arundel Police, who documented the incident and contacted Israel directly. Israel returned to my residence at 9:09 p.m. He stated that traffic and other jobs caused the delay and offered a partial apology. As a result of this situation, my home was left unsecured for several hours. I was without my lock for most of the day, and I had to involve law enforcement to resolve the matter. This experience was unprofessional and unacceptable.!!!! I am requesting that this matter be reviewed and addressed appropriately. No customer should be left without a secured door for this length of time.

Our technician was quick, friendly and efficient. He wore gloves and a mask which made me feel a lot better about the whole situation. I am knocking off a star because it would have been very helpful to get some type of semblance of a quote before sending the locksmith over. Instead we were put on the spot and unable to price compare -- I think that even a photo exchange of the locks involved before sending something over would give us a better idea of what to expect...but it looks like this is the way most locksmiths do business right now.
