Kevin is a nice guy, but ultimately cared about getting paid for time rather than work, if that makes sense. In short, we paid him well (more than the rate we had been quoted over the phone), but he couldn't diagnose the problem with our HVAC unit and help us. We had to hire a second HVAC contractor to get the job done, which ended up being super simple. More detail, in case it's helpful to others: Kevin spent almost 3 hours trying to figure out why our Mitsubishi mini-split wasn't listening to our Nest thermostat and turning on. Kevin charged us $325 (the $150 diagnostic visit fee we had been quoted by Lily over the phone, plus an unexpected $150 for one hour of labor time, plus tax), saying he was "90% sure" we needed to replace the control board. Kevin expressed to us that "a licensed Mitsubishi technician" would need to troubleshoot our unit with Mitsubishi on the phone to definitively determine the problem. He said the call "would take hours." Turns out the issue was super simple and would've been caught through basic troubleshooting! We had another HVAC contractor come, and in 10 minutes he discovered the issue was a dirty drain pan.

I hired HVAC Hunters for a refrigerant recharge. The technician told me, based on his professional…read moreexperience, that this recharge would get my system through the summer. I took him at his professional word and approved the work on that basis. It did not last 12 hours. The system stopped working the same day. Only afterward did I read the fine print on the invoice, which says the opposite of what I was told in person: that a recharge carries no guarantee of operation for any period of time and that the refrigerant may keep leaking. So I was sold a "summer" fix verbally, handed a disclaimer in writing, and left with a system that quit before the next morning. To make it worse, no one had the courtesy to call me and let me know the outcome of the conversation with their technician. Having managed large operations for years, I know there's a right way and a wrong way to do business: set honest expectations, stand behind what your technician promises, and communicate directly. None of that happened here. My advice, get every promise in writing before you approve any work, or better yet, call someone else.

Although the repair process was more involved than anyone had anticipated, the company continued working on the problem until it was fully resolved. Throughout the process, the technicians proved themselves to be responsible professionals who worked hard to solve the problem. Mazgan arranged for the necessary parts to be supplied by Navien. In several cases, obtaining those parts at no cost required Mazgan to negotiate with Navien on my behalf. The company was also very accommodating regarding the overall cost of the repairs. In the end, Mazgan proved to be a reliable company that stands behind its work and can be trusted to see a difficult project through to completion.

When a used unit arrived on site for replacement, he instead sent a bill for $5500 to install, trying to weasel $8000 out of me to change out a simple wall unit 7' high on a wall. He then knocked it down to $4300. Still ridiculously HIGH!!! They add in line items like $500 crane fee for their lazy asses to lift the 15 lbs unit in the air. They originally tried to charge $225/lbs of R410A freon. I could go on and on. In the end they left me hanging but thank God they did. I called another company that charged me $2600 total to install a brand new unit ($700), with 11 lbs @ only $95/lbs of freon fee and none of their predatory fees- just an hourly rate. Mazgan is so unscrupulous. I hate vendors like this. STEER CLEAR. I cannot express this enough.
