He first spent about 30 minutes checking the unit, then gave me the price and left to buy the part. After that, he spent another 2.5 hours fixing his car before coming back. When he returned, he spent less than 30 minutes repairing the unit and then rushed to leave because he had another job. While he was here, he complained that the attic was too hot and even asked for help fixing his car. The AC worked right after he repaired it, but it stopped working again within 30 minutes. Since he had already left, I contacted him and asked him to come back to fix it again. He came back the next day but did not really do anything. He said the unit was making sound and running. He didn't even go up to the attic to double check again. so he claimed the outside unit needed to be cleaned. He then quoted me $400 per unit, for a total of $1,200 to clean three units, which I believe was extremely overpriced. I told him to clean only one unit first so we could see if the AC would work, but he refused and left immediately. On the same day, I had to call another company to schedule service. I paid another $200 for the repair, plus $290 to clean the outside unit, and the AC has worked without any issues since then. The other specialist told me that DC Air had installed the replacement part in the wrong area, which caused the unit to stop working again. I found this company on Yelp and saw that it had a Yelp Guarantee, but after this experience, I no longer trust these so-called reviews and guarantees. It is better to find someone through friends or people who have actually hired and recommended them before.

He came back with the piece we needed and he wanted me to give him the balance that I owed him before he walked into the store to finish the job. Due to permit issues we had for a separate matter, I had to reschedule with Mr.Air multiple times. They also had to hold 4 mini split ACs and two condensers for months because of the rescheduling. We had to change the order a few times due to changing our minds on the location of the condenser as well as electrical work needed. At no point did they complain or demand we store the equipment or move up the date. We had all of the ACs installed in one day (9am to 8pm), and they provided plastic to cover furniture. They didn't slack and didn't complain about my father hovering over them (he loves to watch contractors so he could learn; which I'm sure isn't pleasing to any contractor). Overall, the entire team at Mr. Air was fantastic to work with and so kind to us!

Finally, by chance I got hold of SohoHVAC and John spent time discussing the issue in detail with me before he came to diagnose in person and when he did come he fixed the issue in no time at all, as what he originally diagnosed was the problems so he came prepared. Ben solved some very thorny problems with my boiler. I have a 325 MBH Burnham 2009 steam boiler in…read moremy brownstone that was failing to start up especially after it had been down for a while. I mistakenly thought it was a worn out thermocouple and tried to replace it since I saw it done last time the problem arose. Unfortunately I was doped up on Benedryl to treat a bad head cold and caused a major short circuit of the controls while attempting the work. Having no idea of the extent of the damage and how to repair it and having bad luck with my previous contractor, I submitted inquiries to several contractor referral sites. Ben is on Yelp & Thumbtack and responded to me quickly. It was the weekend and the house was getting cold so I thought I should try him. He was very methodical and thorough in his work. It took several days while he was testing and replacing wires and testing the controls. While prepared to replace all the controls, he found that he only had to replace the 12 volt transformer and low water cutoff. He drained and cleaned out the boiler prior to installing the new cutoff. Apparently the boiler had been failing to start due to sediment from the dirty water on the water level probe of the low water cut off. He advised me how to periodically clean out the boiler to prevent the problem from recurring. Contrary advice I got from my prior company led to this problem. Unlike me he knew exactly what he was doing. His solutions followed an expert step by step diagnosis which lead to finding what needed to be replaced and not replacing more than was necessary and then checking all controls to make sure the boiler is operating properly and safely. He was also a pleasure to work with: friendly and respectful. I learned three major lessons from this experience: 1. Don't assume that the solution to a problem will be the same solution next time the same problem arises. The main original problem was not a worn out thermocouple but rather dirty water. Correlation is not causation. 2. A little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing and never try to do possibly hazardous work when you are not clear headed no matter how smart or brave you think you are, and 3. Always call Ben if you have another problem with the boiler even if it is just replacing a thermocouple! Thanks again Ben
