While in Greenfield, Indiana you've got to check out The Depot!…read more FROM GRAIN ELEVATOR TO FAMILY RESTAURANT: this place has history, character, and heart. The building towers above the surrounding area, and we could see it from blocks away as we drove toward it. It has those old school Midwestern, small town vibes that you just don't see much anymore. The restaurant is large and clearly a popular local spot, so I'd recommend making reservations ahead of time. After a short wait, we were seated in their lively main dining room. They have an extensive cocktail menu, appetizers, and plenty of mains truly a menu where there's something for everyone. Think classic, down home American cooking in a casual, no frills setting. Our table sampled a little bit of everything, but if you order one appetizer, get the fried pickles! I'm a sucker for that cornmeal style batter and the sriracha ranch was the perfect touch. For my main, I ordered the loaded wedge salad and when I say this thing was HUGE, I mean it! It was practically an entire head of lettuce, so definitely expect leftovers. The wedge was cold, crisp, refreshing, and delicious. The staff were incredibly nice and attentive, the kind of place where they call you darling and greet you with a smile. It's not fancy and there are no frills, but that's exactly what makes it special. Good food, genuinely friendly people, and that classic down-home neighborhood feel.

The food was so-so. I ordered a grilled chicken BLT wrap and the chicken was... weird. Very stretchy, wet and like the weirdest texture so I couldn't finish it. Chips were good, and we liked the 'tater kegs' app.

Great Yelp reviews drew me to this trendy lunch and dinner spot in Greenfield. We called ahead to…read moremake sure we could get a table on a Friday night and they had plenty of tables. The restaurant is in an older building near downtown Greenfield. The inside is trendy with pops of orange and yellow. You order at the counter and find a seat. They bring the food out to you when it's ready. They have a menu filled with fried and bbq type entrees. Daily specials are listed on a board. The clerk as friendly and had a fun energy. Since we were first timers (and exhausted) I just had the clerk pick me a house favorite which was a brisket/Mac and cheese dish. My husband had a brisket sandwich with fries and a local craft beer. The food came out fairly quickly and the server checked to make sure we had everything we needed. The brisket Mac and cheese was really good comfort food. The Mac was thick and creamy. The pickled onion were fantastic. The brisket was juicy with a spicy kick from the bbq sauce that I loved. I couldn't eat it all and so took half home. My husband devoured his brisket sandwich. The rolls are made fresh in house. His sandwich was a winner. The shoestring fries were also delicious. The portion was generous. We loved our meals. The manager checked on us. Service is top notch. They do not have dedicated parking. We found a lot around the block and walked through an ally.

The gal at the register was friendly and helpful, and did not rush me to decide what to order. I ended up ordering a brisket potato with the meat on the side. While I waited, a gentleman came up and said that he put the butter and cheese on the potato but the other items on the side as well. I am so glad he did this, and I appreciate his forethought here. The potato wasn't going to be eaten for a while, and I didn't want to warm up the brisket and risk it drying out. The other toppings he put on the side are cold toppings, so having them separate as well was perfect! My husband is very particular about brisket, so I patiently waited for him to try it. Full disclosure - I didn't try the brisket myself. My husband said the brisket had great flavor, so WIN!!! I can't believe this place has been open this long in Greenfield and we haven't tried it before now. You won't be sorry if you give them a chance. I don't eat much meat, but if you are like me, it isn't difficult to find a menu item and just leave the meat off. Maybe someday they will have a great meatless bean dish to add to a potato or mac and cheese.
