It is a simple, hometown Midwestern style spot that reminds me of the places I used to go with my parents in the 60s and 70s. The diminutive, squared-off standalone facade centered in a small parking lot exudes that homey vibe. And the interior is exactly what you'd expect based on the exterior. The simple but well-kept tables and booths are typical of Mid-American diners. It was our daughter's birthday and comfort food was what she wanted. There were five of us (four adults and one child) so we called ahead. They were gracious enough under the circumstances to set aside a larger 6-person corner table for us to allow us to be seated right away despite it being a relatively busy Friday evening at 6 PM. Our server, Wendi, did a great job taking care of us. She was prompt and attentive without being intrusive. The menu was chicken-centric as the restaurant name clearly implies. One intriguing side item that seemed to be a signature for them were the fried biscuits. They were essentially fried pieces of dough sprinkled with powdered sugar with apple butter spread that we used as a dip. They were memorable and made nice starters. All of our mains were, of course, chicken dinners. Dark and white meat ensembles were both available. There was a nice variety of sides and our party opted for various combos that included onion rings, green beans, cottage cheese, baked potato and mashed potatoes. And of course, American-style dinner rolls accompanied each meal. It was all very tasty. I'll also note that their coffee was reasonably good. My wife, our 4-yr-old granddaughter and I were able to split one three-piece dinner making this a fabulous value. The total bill with food, drinks, tax and tip was $85. At just over $21 per adult, it was a good value by today's standards. I'll gladly give this place five stars. They're unpretentious, deliver exactly what you're led to expect, and they pull it off very well. We'll go back if we have the chance.

The building towers above the surrounding area, and we could see it from blocks away as we drove toward it. It has those old school Midwestern, small town vibes that you just don't see much anymore. The restaurant is large and clearly a popular local spot, so I'd recommend making reservations ahead of time. After a short wait, we were seated in their lively main dining room. They have an extensive cocktail menu, appetizers, and plenty of mains truly a menu where there's something for everyone. Think classic, down home American cooking in a casual, no frills setting. Our table sampled a little bit of everything, but if you order one appetizer, get the fried pickles! I'm a sucker for that cornmeal style batter and the sriracha ranch was the perfect touch. For my main, I ordered the loaded wedge salad and when I say this thing was HUGE, I mean it! It was practically an entire head of lettuce, so definitely expect leftovers. The wedge was cold, crisp, refreshing, and delicious. The staff were incredibly nice and attentive, the kind of place where they call you darling and greet you with a smile. It's not fancy and there are no frills, but that's exactly what makes it special. Good food, genuinely friendly people, and that classic down-home neighborhood feel.

This is a neighborhood bar that has good food, and a true regular crowd on the bar side. Big tables, if you have a group of 6-8. There is a less loud dining area. Monday to Sunday daily specials, some menu items you don't normally see, frog legs and chicken livers. Don't hesitate to try this place out. The Saturday we were there there was an issue with the pizza oven so our crust was a little burnt in a few spots, and very brown on on side, but the pizza was still good, plenty of sauce, cheese , pepperoni, mushrooms. Our waitress apologized, and offered to replace it, but we said we'll take it, I like a crispy crust. The boneless wing are a hit, very good, they have a thin breading with a hit of pepper, and a hint of other spices, they are delicious naked. I got the sriracha bourbon sauce, and honey bbq, I mixed them for a perfect flavor of sweet and heat for me. Well I had to get a pork tenderloin, it was delicious too, comes with tavern chips, yum! The beer choices are from the Anheuser-Busch and Miller brand, no fancy domestic beers or imports, or local brews, but that means no expensive pints, and I rediscovered my original favorite Michelob! Wait staff is friendly and service was acceptable for a packed bar full of folks watching Big10 football. So if you're not a regular find a seat and they will get there, in a few minutes.

They do indeed have a burrito section on their menu, but all of the burritos have sauce and cheese covering them, which effectively makes them enchiladas. I came for a burrito, but I left with what was essentially a plate of enchiladas. That's fine; I make do. My Burritos Michoacan were two tortillas filled with pork carnitas, and topped with green chili sauce and cheese. Rice and beans came on the side. It was tasty, but again, it was not a burrito. (Alright! I'm done belaboring this point. No burrito, no bueno. I'm sure you get it.) But, four stars because my meal came with complimentary chips and salsa, and the chips were outta sight. I liked using my chips to scoop up the rice and beans and carnitas. My meal was also big enough for two people to share. I ate my to-go meal in my car, which honestly, is the best place to eat a meal, especially a burrito-but-not-burrito meal. I bounced into Los Vaqueros soon after they opened at 11 a.m., and I was able to order my to-go food right there and then wait only about 10 minutes to receive it. There are some seats in the lobby that you can sit at while you wait. Parking can be a little iffy here. There is no designated parking lot, but there is street parking on the side of the restaurant. I wasn't able to find parking there, so I parked across the street.
