They do indeed have a burrito section on their menu, but all of the burritos have sauce and cheese covering them, which effectively makes them enchiladas. I came for a burrito, but I left with what was essentially a plate of enchiladas. That's fine; I make do. My Burritos Michoacan were two tortillas filled with pork carnitas, and topped with green chili sauce and cheese. Rice and beans came on the side. It was tasty, but again, it was not a burrito. (Alright! I'm done belaboring this point. No burrito, no bueno. I'm sure you get it.) But, four stars because my meal came with complimentary chips and salsa, and the chips were outta sight. I liked using my chips to scoop up the rice and beans and carnitas. My meal was also big enough for two people to share. I ate my to-go meal in my car, which honestly, is the best place to eat a meal, especially a burrito-but-not-burrito meal. I bounced into Los Vaqueros soon after they opened at 11 a.m., and I was able to order my to-go food right there and then wait only about 10 minutes to receive it. There are some seats in the lobby that you can sit at while you wait. Parking can be a little iffy here. There is no designated parking lot, but there is street parking on the side of the restaurant. I wasn't able to find parking there, so I parked across the street.

If you want Tex mex or arroz con pollo, do not come here as you will not find it here. This is as authentic as it gets and honestly everything we had was fantastic. It definitely is a hole in the wall type of joint so nothing fancy on the inside. We were amazed at the amount of variety they had to offer. The owners were very nice and accommodating. We got recommend to try out the Tlayudas which are essentially large thin and crunchy tortillas filled with whatever meat, beans, cheese, and cabbage. I got the asada and my sister got the chorizo. They were so tasty and honestly huge. One Tlayuda is probably good for two to be honest but I powered through one myself. My dad ordered some tacos, one Al pastor, tripe, and suadero. He thought they were very good. It's nice to know that there's something like this in Shelbyville as there seems to be an abundance of Tex mex style food here. Will come back and try some other offerings from their menu.

The building towers above the surrounding area, and we could see it from blocks away as we drove toward it. It has those old school Midwestern, small town vibes that you just don't see much anymore. The restaurant is large and clearly a popular local spot, so I'd recommend making reservations ahead of time. After a short wait, we were seated in their lively main dining room. They have an extensive cocktail menu, appetizers, and plenty of mains truly a menu where there's something for everyone. Think classic, down home American cooking in a casual, no frills setting. Our table sampled a little bit of everything, but if you order one appetizer, get the fried pickles! I'm a sucker for that cornmeal style batter and the sriracha ranch was the perfect touch. For my main, I ordered the loaded wedge salad and when I say this thing was HUGE, I mean it! It was practically an entire head of lettuce, so definitely expect leftovers. The wedge was cold, crisp, refreshing, and delicious. The staff were incredibly nice and attentive, the kind of place where they call you darling and greet you with a smile. It's not fancy and there are no frills, but that's exactly what makes it special. Good food, genuinely friendly people, and that classic down-home neighborhood feel.
