So with recent glowing reviews from Washington Post and Northern Virginia Magazine, it's going to be tough to snag a reservation but overall they have a good thing going here. It could be great, but it's not there yet. It's an awkward restaurant. Nearly half the seats place the restaurant at the diner's back when today's savvy diners are looking for an experience and not just a meal. They would be wise to add mirrors along the wall so the tables provide a view of the restaurant to all. Then there is the noise. We found ourselves at times nearly shouting to hear one another over the disjointed play list blasting 70's and 80's rock, country and pop. It's too much and distracts from the creativity of the dishes and concept. Staff are decidedly in two groups. Those who know what they are serving and those who beg to not make eye contact, less you ask them a question they don't know the answer too. Like, "do you have sparkling water like San Pelegrino?" They didn't know the answer. The same with drinks, they have very limited choices of liquors to choose from for cocktails and they flat out will tell you if they are about to serve a course of food, your drink request will have to wait. The wine list is decent but the wine was too warm and the glasses mismatched. In all fairness the owner caught it and offered to bring the proper glass but who wants to be pouring wine from glass to glass at the table. Then there is the food. The Washington Post (you know who) apparently came on an a la carte night and not a tasting menu night. With everything prepared for just one table I can see where the promise lies, but the execution on the night we dined was adrift. Overall flavors are very appealing with the exception of a "palate cleanser" that had crispy fried winter truffles sprinkled on a frozen sunchoke concoction. Apparently whoever thought that up must have missed culinary class on palate cleanser day. Nothing crashes a palate faster than truffle and this was no exception. Cold smoked toro was delicious. Truffled pasta wasn't the best choice of type of pasta but the flavor was excellent. Squab was very nice but no longer warm and most disappointing was the final protein course with Colorado lamb two ways. Both were unfortunately cold. Not cool. Cold. Dessert was ok except the cheese plate came with nothing to put the cheeses on in order to eat. We did receive some pita chips when we asked but they were already seasoned and didn't really go with any of the cheeses. All in all I think they have something here if they can make adjustments on timing and the experience. We will give them a few more months and try it again. Frankly it will probably take that long to get another reservation. Hopefully they continue to grow and find their rhythm and don't settle back on two good reviews. read more

Absolutely amazing experience! Beautifully quaint dining room which was equally intimate and communal, We showed up at 6:30 for a pre-dinner cocktail. The chef popped out with an amuse bouche and an explanation of the menu. We then enjoyed 5 courses of stunningly prepared and presented food with perfect wine pairings. Our meal was amazing! The combination of flavors and textures provided us with a delicious and very pleasing experience. We highly recommend dining at Alias. There is simply nothing that compares. read more

I'm giving Alias one star for effort. They are nice people. The food does not come close to what is expected with a restaurant at this expectation based on reviews and the very high price. It started when I tried to order a standard Negroni (1 part gin, 1 part sweet vermouth, 1 part Campari) which is a very simple recipe and the server had something else in mind. I got a single malt on the rocks to play it safe. Each course looked like it was prepared to be great - but consistently disappointed. Did we hit a bad night or bad menu here? Maybe. I am writing this review as a caveat to people making a reservation at Alias that the other ratings are way overstated compared to our experience. read more

We had been here before with the previous executive chef and had the most amazing dining experience that we couldn't stop raving about, so we decided to visit again thinking we would be awed like the first time. We were very disappointed to learn of the original chef's departure after we were seated but were hopeful that the new chef would deliver another unique and unforgettable experience. Sadly, the meal was just fine dining ordinary and not exceptional, and certainly wasn't worth the increased price. The service was still great and the staff including the new chef was incredibly pleasant and accommodating, but the talent that could have put it on the map is gone and it's no longer unique with the exception of its location. read more

Had an amazing experience at Alias. Having something like this as an option in Warrenton is a breath of fresh air. You could sense the drive and eagerness of young chef and his crew, who were knowledgeable of all aspects of our meal, from the wine to the herbs in the dishes. My favorite part of our meal was the complexity of the broths. They made each broth so uniquely, with a full body of flavor, that made me wanting more. We left very satisfied with extra dishes not even listed on the menu. We are definitely excited to try the next menu. read more

I have been to a plethora of fine dining establishments and this one definitely falls under the "nothing to see here category". The food was fine but nothing wow'd me enough to justify the price-tag of a dinner for two (440$). We left hungry and confused at how they justify charging that much based on "ingredients" when all the ingredients, even though they're outsourced, are extremely affordable. The value you get for the amount you pay is not appropriate in my opinion. Service was good but when asked a question about a menu item description the waitress didn't know what it was either? Really an experience more than a dinner! We were greeted right away as we arrived, with the menu printed with our name on it. Lots of little samples of different things. For example, an oyster and a small cup of strawberry gazpacho to start. The meal was well paced with several small surprises interspersed with the courses printed on the menu. Not everything was a home run (we felt some items were over salted) but enjoyed them anyways with their interesting presentations. We were there for a total of 3 hours, so plan accordingly! Because one of us is vegetarian, which means we often can't attend fixed menu restaurants, we really appreciated that there was a vegetarian option. Lastly, we sat at the table as opposed to the bar. This is a promising new restaurant that has the potential to be great once they work out some kinks. Let's start with the pros: The food was creative and tasty. Seasonal dishes that are well-balanced and full of flavor. Not one course was a "skip", although I will say that I enjoyed the dessert course perhaps the least of all of them. The wine list and wine pairings were excellent and had some really nice "risky" options. I enjoy trying new things and I really liked that the sommelier paired a Mexican wine - which I had never tried before - with one of the courses. All of the pairings really enhanced my enjoyment of the food. If you prefer to order a bottle, their wine list has some really nice options and seems pretty well-priced. They include a fixed service charge, which I like - no doing math at the end trying to figure out the final price. And it makes sure their servers get paid a living wage. The ambiance is fine, and it's cool to see the chef putting final touches on dishes out in the open. I see some people complaining in other reviews about feeling cramped but I felt like we had a good amount of space between our table and others. I am not a small person and generally my test is if I can comfortably exit a banquette without feeling like my rearend is in the space of neighboring diners and this setup passed that test. Now, the cons: There is still some coordination to be worked out. First, they offer a vegetarian menu, which is great, but they serve their amuse bouche options for the evening before they ask which menu you are having. My friend is veg and both amuses that we were served had fish, which she doesn't eat. This is easily fixed by either making all your amuse bouche options vegetarian or asking folks' dining preferences beforehand. Second, with the way their service is set up they have only one seating per night with 30 people being served at the same time. They need to figure out a way to time this so that food comes out for everyone promptly. Nearly every dish they served us was a little cold by the time we received it. In the same vein, they ask you to arrive at 645 for the 700 seating, and service didn't actually start until 715. That meant we were sitting there with no food, no wine, nothing but water for 30 minutes. That got a bit old. Starting wine service or offering some bread would go a long way to help with this. read more

Alias has quickly become the best restaurant in Warrenton and the surrounding area. The food, ambiance, and service is unmatched. I was able to make the drive out from DC for a beautiful evening with my family, and I would drive the distance to visit again and again and again. The chef was able to cater to my dietary restrictions, and even had non-alcoholic bubbly on tap! I have only ever felt this level of attention to detail at restaurants akin to The Inn at Little Washington (3 Michelin stars). There was no acknowledgment of food allergies; little explanation of dishes or how to eat. No consideration from customers perspective. My partner and I came here on a whim after wine tasting at Vint Hill. They were open for brunch on Sunday and we were just happy to find something close by. Little did we realize we were stepping into a brand new, super fancy brunch spot. Immediately we were greeted by friendly and accommodating staff, who made sure we had a relaxing and pleasant meal. The menu was small but everything on it looked delicious. We shared a mimosa and then ordered the Alibi burger and the bacon and chives waffle with crème fraîche. The waffle was delicious and was the perfect amount of food-it was comforting and refreshing, and definitely hit the spot. But there is nothing that can top that burger. The short rib patties were perfectly cooked and mouth watering. The sunny side up egg was cooked to perfection and the bacon was incredible. Even the potato wedges on the side were fabulous. I highly recommend this restaurant and I am itching to get back to try the dinner tasting menu! read more

The space is nice and some of the food was nice. I would not even be writing this except for the fact that I wrote a private message to the owners through Resy and received no response. So now it goes on Yelp. What will keep us from returning was openly rude service. Twice I received a curt response from our waiter, once when I asked to order a cocktail and again when I asked when the cocktail would be coming as we had been waiting quite a while, had already received food, my husband had already been served his wine, and still I sat there with no cocktail. The second curt response from the waiter included an actual dirty look, and he turned on his heel and walked away. This is shocking to me - I've never experienced such a thing, let alone at a very expensive place that we had driven over an hour for, to celebrate a special occasion. Both times I spoke to the server politely and with a smile - I always do, to be a nice person and also because, having worked in hospitality many years ago, I understand that grumpy customers are no fun. So this was simply unacceptable, as is the lack of response from the management to my private communication. (On the plus side, the drink I struggled to receive was delicious). read more
