This place is a winner! High quality, good value and great taste. We like to get a skewer platter, a few falafel and a piece of bread. Enough for two. We have had most of the different skewers and the swarma as well. There are specials not on the menu most days to select from, too. Recently had a whole fish of some sort. Visited Chico during the weekend and was excited to try this place. I got the beef wrap, and it was not very impressive. The wrap itself was thick and hard, the meat was under seasoned, and the fillings somehow didn't even taste well together. It also took so long to get the food ready. Ok. I am about to try to explain in words how this place has ruined all other Greek or Mediterranean restaurants for me. I am currently eating at a Greek restaurant and I can't even enjoy it because Ali Babas in Chico California is the absolute best. Blessed by God, and favored by man. I was distracted by all the flashy neon lights of the surrounding restaurants but out of nowhere there was a light gleaming down from Heaven and shown upon a little doorway shrouded behind the rest.. I began to hear a distant melody of unearthly instruments begin to orchestra in a somber, and felt a chill that I only get from listening to Michael Jackson's 1991 hit "Heal the World", and decided I must enter. I opened the door and have since that initial day opened that door numerous times. I ordered the Gyro Wrap, Dolmas, and falafels. And what I wasn't prepared for was significantly proportioned amount of gyro meat inside the wrap. Even to the last bite there was chunks of meat falling out between my fingers. The owners and workers have an amazing core value of delivering delicious food. And I can honestly say.. every time has been a beautiful reminder of the love I have with their gyro wrap. Picture this wrap in your mind. There's no lettuce. That's just a waste of space that should be taken up by meat. What you find in the wrap is meat, sauce, tomatoes, and pickles. That's it. And it's perfection, thank you Ali Baba. I will forever return to get filled with the flavors and meat that I find in your wrap. Absolutely delicious! We ended up in Chico for the weekend to explore the town and saw that Ali Baba's had great ratings. I love Mediterranean food, so I was excited to try it out. It does not disappoint! We both had the ground lamb kabob plate (one with hummus and one with baba ghanoush) that comes with seasoned rice and a salad. The baba ghanoush is so good that we ordered a side order and a veggie skewer that they were nice enough to customize for us (no bell peppers). The lamb was cooked perfectly and deliciously seasoned. The rice was light and a perfect compliment to the flavorful lamb. The baba ghanoush and hummus were perfect compliments to the meat and rice. Outstanding food. The Gyros are so flavorful and filling, I think they might be among my favorite foods here in Chico. I would recommend the food here to anyone looking for a lot of flavor, and a fair price. My only complaint would be the hours. I understand that it's more of a lunch time or early dinner type of food, but I can't even count how many times I've been downtown after 7 or 8 PM with a craving for a gyro, only to realize that Ali Baba was already closed, while seemingly everything around it is still open. I understand that it's up to the owner to decide hours and that's completely fair, however it would be nice if the hours posted on Yelp, Google and the store's front window actually matched, because as of right now they are all completely different, so it's hard to tell when they are open or closed unless you drive by. Bottom line, swing by Ali Baba and try their amazing food, and if you enjoy it thoroughly, let the owner know you'd like the hours extended too! read more

The staff are some of the friendliest folks in town and are happy to answer all of your questions. The food comes out quickly, it is fresh, and jam-packed with flavor.
