The young lady at the counter was pleasant and efficient. The portions were large. We snacked on the hummus to get started and it was good. We couldn't come close to finishing it in one sitting. I was able to finish the Gyro, but that was my last meal of the day. It had such good flavor and the textures were on point. I found myself playing the "just one more bite game." My wife had the Greek salad and loved it. Big chunks of chicken with flavorful seasoning matched with the other elements of the salad perfectly. Do not be fooled by the humble exterior - this place is amazing! The owner is super friendly, welcoming and funny, and the food is top-notch. I ordered the Kebab Special for $12.99 and got much more food than I expected. I've been to places that would charge $15-$18 for less. All the food was delicious; the meat was juicy and flavorful and the hummus tasted fresh and homemade. The owner gave me an extra dolma for free, which was the cherry on top of a great experience. I got the lamb plate and was charged about $11 and with it came a good amount of hummus, salad, rice, and a slice of minced lamb meat. Everything was good except the meat itself. I took a trip to Chico this weekend to see my brother graduate. After the graduation, my family and I walked around the downtown area and my dad saw Ali Baba restaurant. He looked at the name and thought it was funny because his name is also Ali and so is my brother's, so that was cool. As we walked in we saw that there were several tables already taken. We didn't know if we were all going to fit since the space was a bit small and it was 8 of us. I give this place 5 stars because Luke, who was one of the managers there was super helpful and was able to accommodate us. He went out of his way and lined up some tables and chairs together so that we could all sit together. Once we were all seated he handed us a copy of their menu and took our drink orders. As I looked over the menu everything sounded pretty delicious. We all got a mixture of chicken kabobs, lamb kabobs, combo plates (which you have the option to choose two or more meats) and a fish platter. I've had Mediterranean food before but hadn't had it in a long time so the first bite I took was heavenly. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted great. There was a moment when the table got really quiet, that's when you know it's a good time with good food. Super nice folks behind the counter and great yelp ratings...I was psyched for something healthy after spending all day swimming creeks and counting salmon (I'm a fisheries biologist). My gyros salad however was soggy with grease and covered with pickles (pickles?!) and canned olives. The meat needed that bright tang of good tomatoes, the bite of fresh onion and the velvet touch of tzatziki. Alas, there wasn't anything with character to resurrect my wilted lettuce or compliment the feta. I hope this is not the typical dining experience here but it'd take a lot to lure me back. read more

Called in two Gyro Wraps around 2:30pm. I headed over to Broadway and went inside. The gentleman was very pleasent both on the phone and in-person. I am so happy Chico has such diversity in terms of the different types of foods that they offer. This place is one of a kind in a small town like this. I'm a big fan of the sauce in the wrap but i felt as though it could have been more generous. I didn't really get a good taste of it until the end. The wrap or "shell" was more on the drier side in my opinion. Upon taking my first bite everything inside was fresh and tasted good. They filled it with a generous portion of meat which was nice. It was about room temperature when I picked up my order. Not too hot, not too cold. I think the cold ingredients they added to the wrap with the hot lamb & chicken meats made it overall luke-warm. Just thought that was something worthwhile to note. Overall, I would give my experience a 4/5. The food was plentiful and worth the price. Was it anything over the top or super exciting? Not really.
