So I bought my eyeglasses here about a year ago for about $350, including a sunglasses clip-on and anti-glare coating. Well first, within minutes of wearing them out of the store, the arms were so loose they were sliding and falling off my face even when it was still. The arm broke off shortly after WHILE i was wearing them. I took it back and agreed to just exchange for a new pair. New pair kept getting loose as well, and they tightened the arms again. I was limited in what I could buy as I wanted to spend under 400 for the anti-glaze and sunglasses clip-on's along with the glasses and there was only one or two other choices. Anyway, they have been loose non-stop since I bought them, and I have to fix them myself constantly. But even worse- and I don't know if they use a cheaper or diluted anti-glare coating, but right away I noticed there was still a bad glare. I thought maybe it was better than nothing, and really didn't want to have to take it back and find/get another prescription, so I thought maybe it was fine and the sun was just really intense for my eyes. Well now a year later, whatever WAS put on them has totally come off, because I can't even wear them while I watch tv because the glare is actually WORSE with them on. I passed them around to my friends and they all agreed, the glare was WORSE. In fact, I just had to pull over and let my boyfriend drive, because the glasses did NOTHING for the sun glare and I could hardly see. $350!! It's been about a year so I cant return them and I don't think I would trust this place anyway. The Kenneth Cole glasses I bought were obviously either very poorly made (both pairs that I bought) or not the real thing, and either the anti-glare is poorly done, or also, not the real thing. Shame, because I thought the people were friendly and seemed quick to try to amend the first situation. Total waste of a lot of money. read more

Bad experience - don't visit. The doctor arrived almost an hour late. Kept pushing expensive prescription glasses / eye drops/ eye mask since " I had good insurance". I don't normally wear glasses but left with a diagnosis of going to be blind if I don't do what she suggests. Once they realized we were NOT going to make a big purchase - only reading glass their demeanor changed. No longer engaging or friendly. My mom had to go twice to pick up her glasses bc they weren't open and when she arrived they didn't ask her to try them on. They gave her glasses and sent her out the door. Who does that !?? My first turn off was the lateness - my time is just as important as the doctor! There are far better options out there and gave this one a try only bc it was close by. Not worth it ! read more

Made an appointment on Saturday afternoon at 11AM. I felt really bad for walking in at 11:20AM but the ladies there were really nice about it and smiled and said not to worry. I had been to this optometry before a couple of years ago (mainly because it was close by) but decided to come back because I remembered having a good experience with the doctor here. During that visit, the doctor had told me that I had a slight astigmatism, and because I had previously worked at an optometry before, I knew that toric contact lens would be a lot more expensive. So I asked if he could alter my prescription for non-toric lens instead and he was happy to accomodate my request, which, in my opinion, was really nice of him! I knew other optometrists who would have been offended by my request and thought that I was trying to tell them how to do their job or that I was stepping on their toes or something - but no, Dr. Wu understood that it was an economical issue with me and was more than happy to help me out where he could, without compromising ocular health. He did the same thing for me this time as well and even helped me pick out some trendy hipster frames! He surprisingly had pretty good taste when it came to the most current trends. The staff there all seemed genuinely really sweet and helpful. They were always smiling and made sure that everyone who walked into the office was being helped. What I also appreciated, was that all of the staff really understood insurance benefits and was able to give me alternate pricing, depending on whether I wanted to use my insurance for glasses or contacts, and was able to show me which was the cheaper out-of-pocket cost. Overall, it was a great experience. The doctor and the staff were all very easy to talk to and very personable. read more

Based off the recommendations of my sister, I came here in urgent need of an eye exam. I must say, these are some great people working here. The pricing was reasonable. $30 for eye glasses exam and I believe a little over $100 something for the contacts exam and contacts fitting. If you combine them, they can give you a better deal too! I didn't purchase my glass from here so I have no comment on that, but after my eye exam for contacts, they gave me a free trial pair to try out. If those do not work out for you, simply go back and they will give you another free pair until you feel the have the right one. Great customer service, huh?! My back story of why I love this place oh so much --- I was in desperate need of some new contacts and I forgot to order more. I do understand that ordering online will cut my cost by a lot, but since it was urgent, I paid around $20 for expedited shipping which made my order come out to be $95. Here's the part that ticked me off: After ordering and paying in full, they told me it will take over 2 weeks to ship to me! Even after paying extra for shipping! I was fed up and canceled my order. When I showed up to my optometrist, they said that there's no need for another exam since it has been less than a year. They placed the order on Monday and called me on Tuesday to pick up my contacts. Yes! The very next freaken day! & it only cost me $85. Yay on saving money & time! EFFICIENT AND COST EFFECTIVE. Everyone in my family has been coming to Alhambra Optometry for over five years so we are pretty loyal customers. We had so-called vision insurance, but it turned out that this place is actually much cheaper. We also live an hour away and still find the drive worth it. Besides cost, Alhambra Optometry is the best when it comes to efficiency. Forget those eye glass chains like LensCrafters, which make you wait forever and pay a ton. You will be in and out of this place in no time with excellent service. If you're in a particular hurry, you can call ahead to ask them how crowded it is. My mom likes to talk to the ladies there (they speak Chinese and English) and they're awesome at helping us find the best contact lenses rebates and giving us samples (contact lenses, solution, etc.). They also patiently taught me how to put on contacts back in the day. The last time I went we mentioned that we are going on a vacation soon so they gave me an extra pair of contacts and travel-sized contact solution! Dr. Wu is professional and super quick with his checkup. He's not much of a talker, but absolutely no complaints with him. We have been coming here for our optical needs for more than 20 years, and we never disappoint. Not only they have large selections of optical frames, and lenses which go along with advanced technology and up to date trend and style branded in US to Japan and Europe, but also the sales staff are always knowledgable, friendly and patient. No matter how busy they are, you will always get your well deserved attention from them and walk out there happy and content. From our numerous visits, we could tell two of the ladies, Anita and Lu have been working there for more than 20 and 10 years respectively. The third young lady brings her unique ability and helpfulness to the mix. Most of all, the owner, Mrs. Huang is the best, with her business acumen and grit that sustains her business in such a competitive environment of SGV for all these times. I just got back from an eye exam and I really like it here. I've been to several optometries and most of them are very pushy or just terrible customer service. The service here was great and I really appreciated how detailed and caring they were here. I had Ms. Lu (I believe thats her name) helped us along with a younger man name Simon. What I loved most was that they were not pushy at all in making me purchase expensive glasses. Because I do not have insurance, Ms. Lu suggested that I purchase a glasses frame that was cheaper (Ray Ban for $120-140 i believe) vs. a Gucci frame ($420). Now, THATS WHAT I CALL GREAT SERVICE! Dr. Wu was professional and friendly and he really explained every detail to me and reason for my far sighted visions. I will definitely come back here again and highly recommend it to everyone else. I need to add I haven't had any experience with eye exam or doctor visit at this place. I was visiting out of town and had dropped one of my contact lenses. Being "blind" in one eye, I scrambled to find a local place that can give me a contact lens trial or something. I showed them my contact lens prescription, and Alhambra Optometry was able to accommodate me. I was helped by a couple of the staff ladies. They made sure it fits before I go. I think I will come back for my annual exam. I was told contact lens exam is $79 without insurance. Cheaper than my local Walmart. P.S. Staff speaks fluent Cantonese. I came here 5 or 6 years ago because my glassed broke so I needed a new one. I remember the woman that helped me to be very friendly and everything was done quickly. If you're young, you're better off talking to the younger staff. Look for Simon. He's here on the weekends and possibly Fridays. He's also the go-to person if you need an English speaker. The optometrist is fluent in English, so that's a great appeal to younger people. They have a huge variety/style of frames and sunglasses. The workers were nice, and didn't pressure me to buy contacts/glasses from them so one star for that. I bought ultra high index glasses lenses here and it was the best customer service experience I have had in a very long time. On top of the prompt, attentive and courteous service, the quality of the work was top knotch. My lenses took one week to complete including the Thanksgiving holiday, so it was much fastwr than average. The lenses were perfection in terms of optic quality, centering, plus fit and finish. Prices also could not be beat by any other stores. I could not write this without mentioning the technical expertise of the older lady providing the fitting consultation. She helped me to resolve "fish bowl" distortion on another pair of high end glasses I brought in during my initial visit. She factored in all my issues and the new glasses were crystal clear. These great people have been in business a long time and its because of the caring service they provide at very low margins to themselves. PS. Earlier in the morning my new dog destroyed my glasses and I immediately needed a new pair. I searched on Yelp and found this optometry nearby my house. I had no appointment, however, I called ahead of time to see if they could squeeze me in same day and they did! Simon pretested me and explained to me he was doing every step of the way, which I really appreciated. Dr. Wu was also very courteous and professional, making sure I was comfortable through the exam. I got my prescription glasses at this place. The service is really rude. Only one lady is nice there. She is usually the one who helps you select glasses. When she is not there, an old lady comes over to help. The old lady there is rude as hell. There's another worker there that does the administrative work. She is rude, loud and cusses in Cantonese. They don't want to answer any questions about PD. They even tell you wrong information if you want o confirm any facts about PD with them. They will measure it, and every time its slightly different. I wanted computer glasses. When my glasses came. I was very happy even though it was pricey for me. It costs over $400 after my insurance was charged. I put it on and wore it for a few weeks. It seems off, but I thought I just need to get used to it. Then a few months later, it was not just uncomfortable, but it was giving me eye strain and light headaches. I finally called in and asked them for the PD. They gave me a computer prescription with a distance prescription PD. It's off by a total of 3mm. This could work for someone else, but it is not recommended, and definitely not going to work for someone like me who's very sensitive to slight differences in PD. That explains everything! The wrong PD is bad for your eyes, causing eye strain, bad vision and headaches. But their service is so terrible that I don't even dare bring my glasses back in to get check. read more

BEST PRICING! I needed a new contact prescription pronto for my depleting supply because I lagged until the last minute... and Alhambra Optometry was very accommodating. Initially, I thought Costco ($100) was going to be the best option, but their earliest appointment was in 2 weeks and the front desk lady was such a beezy (Irwindale). So I called around and Alhambra Optometry was the front runner ($89). I called around 5 other places and I'd say contact prescription is about $140 on average without insurance. With Alhambra Optometry, I was in and out with my prescription and no hassle. The lady that rang me out wasn't pushy and let me know I could shop around after telling me the price of their contacts. Such a relief. I hate being sassed or pushed into a sale. I walked out with my prescription and they even gave me some contacts to take home. I checked online retailer prices for my contacts and their price was very similar to what I was quoted. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Will be referring my friends here. read more

Ms. Loo assisted me with everything...my insurance, finding the best glasses for me within my budget, and explaining to me about Lasik options ! She provided me so many options with my complicated insurance policy since I already had my prescription too. She was so thorough with me and I loved how she was extremely patient with me, didn't rush me or anything when I was trying to find a pair of glasses I liked. I also had a great time chit chatting with her lol and the staff speaks multiple languages so if you don't really know Chinese. I have purchased several pair of glasses here for both myself and my spouse over the last few years. Soon after our last purchase, we had a problem with one pair of transitional lenses which turned out to be a manufacturer defect. Took them back and had the lenses replaced at no charge. A few months later, same problem with the same lens, so we took them back again. At first they offered to replace them at no charge even though there was no warranty in effect which I thought was great. Then they suddenly changed their minds and accused me having the lenses changed in Mexico or somewhere else and accused me of trying to have them changed there for free. This was a total insult as we have spent hundreds of dollars on frames and lenses here and hearing a comment like this was unbelievable and quite surprising! I asked if they could have made a mistake on their records on the lens type and they said it was impossible. Guess they don't make mistakes......... I went in expecting to pay for new lenses due to the time that passed but they were the ones that offered them for free. I still would have paid for the lens but hearing such a rude insult implying that I was trying to scam them was just too much to deal with. Later that day I received a call from Simon (the owners son) who informed me that in fact the ladies that accused me of having replaced the lenses, made an error and would have known had they checked their computer files instead of their written notes. I never received an apology from either of the women that accused me in the first place and embarrassed me in front of other customers. Be aware that everything is nice and sweet when they're swiping your credit card but as soon as something goes wrong with the glasses, or if you're not satisfied, things take an ugly turn. Just remember, the two ladies that work the counter are "incapable of making mistakes" as per their comments. read more

I love my gray color contacts, people give me compliments all the time so I'm stoked about that. But after wearing my glasses I did notice that at night there is glaring from brake lights of other cars as well as street lights. I do like the service and the pricing, but I wish I knew that anti-glare was not included with the lens that I purchase for my glasses. I can wear them in the mornings but unfortunately not at night which kind of sucks. So I have to minus a star for that since they did not inform me that it does not come with that in my lenses. read more

*Review is only for frame buying, I did not get an eye exam here.* I've always wanted frameless glasses. Found these guys because they accepted my insurance and had a great Yelp rating. Popped in on a Friday or Saturday afternoon about a month ago. They had the standard selection of Silhouette frames, but then the woman helping us, I believe her name was Ting, recommended a Japanese brand named Charmant. Also frameless, with some great options for temples. Ting and another rep were very patient and helpful while I searched for the right pair. They gave me honest and constructive critique when I asked for their opinion on how certain frames looked. I really appreciated this as I like some honest feedback from what I consider a pro when making these decisions, or at least someone who looks at people with glasses on all day. She had some pretty chic glasses on herself, so I trusted that I'd like her style I finally found the perfect pair, with these perfect, dainty (but durable) temples. I asked for a brand new set vs. the display model. They told me it might take up to 4 wks to get it brand new, I said no problem. Much to my pleasant surprise, I got a message that my glasses were ready ONE WEEK later! Took me another week to actually *LISTEN* to my voicemail and go pick them up Anywho, picked them up and they fit great! Have gotten more compliments on these frames than any other I can remember. When I put them on, they blend in so it almost looks like I'm not even wearing glasses, which is exactly what I wanted I got a special anti-computer glare coating on the lenses and the only thing that could've made this experience better would have been if perhaps there was a sample lens of what the lens will look like with the coating on. The coating has a sort of greenish tint to it and it makes for a pretty noticeable color change when comparing glasses on vs. glasses off colors (at least to me). I still would have gotten the coating, it was just a little bit of a surprise when I noticed it. So far, my glasses have fit pretty great for the most part. Haven't had to go in for a tune up yet as they are so new, but I'm sure everyone will be just as helpful as the first time we stopped by. Very glad I found this little gem. After reading glowing yelp reviews, I decided to come here to get an eye exam for contacts. I didn't have vision insurance and like a previous yelper, they've got the best price for eye exam in the area therefore + 1 star for that. The optometrist, Dr. Wu appeared very experienced and was informative regarding contact options. I've been using a certain brand that is no longer in production. Although I really didn't want to switch brands, I didn't have much of a choice. After trying on 2 brands of contacts, I decided to go with the biotrue OneLens daily disposable contacts. The Dr was kind and gave me approx 5 days worth of lenses. I tried them out for about 3 days and decided they were the best fit for me and so I placed an online order on webeyecare.com - btw, they've got the best prices! However, the free shipping option stated that it would take 5 - 10 business days. Otherwise, I would have had to pay anywhere from $12 - $25 extra for expedited shipping. I figured I could go back to Dr. Wu to request for some extra samples until I get my shipment. I was SO wrong, I went there and the ladies at the front were talking trash about me in Chinese (which I understand fully!). I decided to ignore their comments and explained to them in the most courteous way possible that I really would like a few extra samples just to hold me through until I get my shipment. Keep in mind I was using daily disposable ones, so it may appear like a lot to them granted that I had varying degrees in each eye...so a 5 day supply would mean 10 lenses. I totally understand, in fact, I offered to pay $$ for them and they said, we can't sell them to you because they are samples. Ok, so what am I suppose to do now??? I got really upset and I realized that being friendly was not gonna work. So with a very stern tone, I told them to tell me what my options were. The older lady rolled her eyes at me and finally said, "fine, just give it to her, she's such a hassle to deal with". Really? Is this a way you're going to treat a patient? I was extremely appalled by her behavior and quite disturbed by how she would possibly work in healthcare. My husband used to be a pediatrician in the area, in fact, he bumped in 2 sets of patients there on the day of my eye exam. We would never treat patients this way. We understand that running a practice has its ups and downs and some patients are demanding, but we try hard to work with them and help them out the best we possibly can, because we care. I really hope some changes could be made in the practice so that others don't have to go through the same type of poor service I encountered. Another thing I want to warn fellow yelper is that getting a copy of your prescription from this place is like pulling teeth, if not worse. They try to avoid giving your prescription despite repeated requests. After my second attempt, I gave up. I had to call twice just to request that they fax over my prescription to the online contact retailer. read more

Came into this optometry today and was so appalled by how unprofessional and rude the sales lady was! Nobody greeted me when I walked in, so I approached this woman behind the counter and asked if she could assist me. Her reply was "can't you see I'm obviously busy? You need to wait." My goodness, I was SHOCKED. I'm very surprised that there are this many 4+ star reviews for this optometry because I would never bring my business here or recommend anyone to come to this place.
