As someone who is extremely picky about their healthcare providers, if I don't like them, I don't go back - EVER. Hands down, one of the best eye doctors I have ever had. I've had glasses since I was in elementary school so I have been to many eye doctors now. I found him a few years ago and I haven't gone anywhere else since. Dr. Ly is patient, extremely thorough and most importantly easy to talk to. In healthcare, it is easy to feel rushed, but I never felt that way. He listened to my concerns and thoroughly explained what is happening with my eyes and he offered suggestions on what I can do to make it better. He also flagged a few other concerns that we would be keeping an eye out for. He also provided product recommendations and explained WHY they were a good fit for me and provided firsthand experience on how it worked for him. I've had too many eye doctors (and doctors in general) make me feel bad about my health/situations. Now with screen time and things, it's easy to make us feel bad about being on our phones/computers (I get it). But Dr. Ly didn't make me feel bad at all. He offered great suggestions on how I can ease the strain on my eyeballs. His receptionist was also incredibly kind and patient in explaining my insurance benefits and how I could make the most of it. Dr. Ly was very patient with all my questions and did not pressure me into doing any extra tests which would cost more money. He was very considerate of affordability, which actually did not seem like an issue to me since a comprehensive eye exam was only $75 out of pocket. It actually becomes $60 if you buy glasses from them, so I think the price is great for the quality you get. I came in with a dozen questions about eye care, trying to understand my changing vision. I am the anxious type, but I left my appointment feeling so much more reassured and knowledgeable about my eyes. As we were doing eye tests, he explained the purpose of each as well as what he noticed about my eyes. He is very thorough, kind, and knowledgeable. Dr. Ly gave me some free samples of eyedrops that he personally uses and gave me many tips on how I can improve my lifestyle choices to improve my vision. Have gone to this place a couple of times for and my son and myself to fill out prescription glasses. Judy always super friendly. They are one of few places I've found who can get 1.74 high index lenses, and are OK with me bringing my own frames - which is important for me because I need frames with very small lens openings due to my high prescription. I have been coming here for a few years now and I can honestly say that Dr. Ly is an exceptional optometrist. He is knowledgeable, caring, and very patient. He will go out of his way to make sure that his patients are being taken care of. Additionally, I was a bit hesitant to go in due to these COVID times but I was pleasantly surprised to see all of the safety precautions this office has in place to keep everyone safe. Temperatures are taken at the door and sanitizer is given. All equipment is cleaned and wiped down before every appointment. The exam room even has an air filtering device. The office is currently open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10am-5pm. Make sure to call to make an appointment because I believe they only take appointments at the moment. Dr lee is a cool guy. Like that he's very friendly and talks to you honestly and really cares about your optometry visit. His office has great prices for your budget and like that they have such a great selection for a small office. Some of the salesmen's they have can be a bit pushy but I get that they are trying to sell. Also like that they have a fast turnaround for glasses. I'm originally from San Diego and have been using glasses/contacts for years and when I moved to Alhambra, I loved that this place was just up the street from me. If I ever move, I will literally go out of my way just to come back here. Dr. Michael Ly is one of the best optometrist's that I have ever had. He is very hands on, completing the preliminary eye tests himself rather than a tech, explaining the purpose of each and answering any questions I had thoroughly. I have severe astigmatism and he was one of the first Dr. who has ever taken the time to learn about my family/health history in order to understand more about why my vision is so severe and ways to prevent it from worsening. He really takes his time with you, often completing additional tests to ensure that it's worth changing my prescription if there's only a slight difference than my old prescription. He even explained how lasik surgery wouldn't actually help me due to the severity of my astigmatism whereas my previous optometrist have always pushed me to do lasik (obviously for financial benefits on their end). While the office itself might not be like your modern day optometry place (it's more of a mom and pop shop) I can honestly say that the quality care that I received makes up for it. My Father introduced me to this place. I loved the way how Dr. Ly and Charles are very patient with him. (My dad likes to talk alot. Lol) When I saw her professional they are with him, I decided I wanted to do my eye exam and glasses here. I came back and Dr. Ly was very thorough through his exams and he advise any concerns. Picking frames was the hardest part, especially with us, that needs the Asian Fit for the nose part. Julie was very patience with that and took out a few for me to choose from. He puts you at ease with interesting chitchat as he goes through the testing. From the moment I stepped inside, I felt welcomed, appreciated, was greeted, and helped. Everyone wore face masks and the place was clean. The staff is nice, friendly, and answered all my questions. I haven't been to an optometrist in 5 years, so it was really comforting knowing the staff were on top of their game being able to multitask and help multiple customers at the same time. My family and I have been to Fremont Optometry for well over 20 years and I can say my best experiences here was when Dr. Ly took over a little over 10 years ago! He is a pleasure to have a conversation with each visit and will go above and beyond to make sure you are satisfied with everything! A few years back, my healthcare provider changed which resulted in me having to go to another optometry for eye exams; however, I got my glasses done with Fremont Optometry nonetheless. When I picked up my glasses, I saw Dr. Ly and chatted with him a bit and during the conversation, I informed him about my change in healthcare and he noticed how my new lenses from that prescription is thinner than what I usually wear. He then pulled out my last 3-4 exams with him and noticed that the degree of the new lenses were inconsistent with the past results and asked me to do a quick eye exam just to double check. To my surprise, the results of his exam were not the same as the other place and the prescription that place gave me was lower than what I actually needed! After that, I scheduled a more in depth eye exam with Dr. Ly and the results were consistent with my previous exams which tells me that his assessment was correct! On top of that, he worked with me in giving me a great price for the new lenses that was not only affordable, but also took into account of the entire situation to ensure that I would not have to pay more than I needed to! Since that experience, I won't ever go to any other optometry regardless of my healthcare provider and would be more than happy to pay out of pocket for the level of quality and care that I have had! I have been wearing glasses for a long time and I found my exan with Doctor Ly was very detailed. His explanation was extremely helpful as I found out important things about my eyes that I didn't know before. For example, I have always known that I have astigmatism. No one ever tell me that my specific type of astigmatism is greatly affected by rubbing. In addition, I am the most indecisive and picky cudtomer. I dreaded the experience of selecting my glasses on the spot. However, Mirna and Judy were Judgment free and really helpful especially with a customer like me. When he saw that I had dry eyes, he did more checks and even told me what I need to do to fix it, recommended me options that work for my lifestyle, and even explained further long-term solutions if I choose to. He walked me through how he concluded my eye prescriptions and even told me to walk around and take my time to figure out how they feel. I've been coming to this optometry for about 15 years (since I was a child). Once or twice I've tried other places and I've been so dissatisfied. Fremont Optometry doesn't disappoint that's why I keep going back. I don't have insurance so prices are based on my experience. I'm sure it would be less money for those who do have vision insurance. The eye exam (glasses and contacts) is less than $100. I usually pay anywhere from $500-$800 (eye exam, 1yr. Supply of contacts and glasses). Keep in mind I always like to splurge on brand name glasses. Also, they always offer a rebate for the contacts and I usually get back at least $50-$75, depending on the contacts. Finally, they always give you extra eye solution which is pretty awesome because it saves me money and I don't have to buy eye solution for 2-3 months. The optometry takes walk-ins and it's not busy. They have a large selection of glasses (including brand name). Also, the prices are reasonable. I've never had any issues with this place. The people that work there are always very kind and helpful. read more

Dr. Ly at Fremont Optometry is the best optometrist that I have come across during my 30 years of wearing eye glasses. All healthcare professionals, in my opinion, should have the heart and character of Dr. Ly. Dr. Ly has endless patience with his patients, knows everything about eyes and optometry, very hard working, and very meticulous. From my first phone conversation with Dr. Ly, you can tell his priority is to give the best patient care that he possibly can, and he's not in his profession for any other reason. I had a very difficult eye glasses situation. I loved my last pair of glasses and they were working great for me so I had and wore those pair of glasses for almost 12 years. I never got new glasses during these past 12 years. My glasses were finally breaking down and the lens coating was deteriorating rapidly to the point where I couldn't see clearly through the lenses. I went to other optometrists before I found Dr. Ly. My problem was that I was getting a really bad fish bowl effect from the eyeglasses that I was getting from the other optometrists. The other optometrists' eyeglasses also gave me really bad distortions. The other optometrists either didn't have the patience at all to help me figure out what was wrong (they didn't even try), or they didn't have the knowledge and expertise to figure out my problem. It was a process and I had to see Dr. Ly a few times, but Dr. Ly figured out my eyeglasses problems, and I have eyeglasses that work perfectly right now! If you have any problems with your eyeglasses, I'm totally confident that Dr. Ly has the experience/knowledge/expertise to help you and to figure out and to correct the problem. Dr. Ly is the most patient optometrist that I know and have come across during my 30 years of wearing eyeglasses. Dr. Ly never gave up on me like the other optometrists. I could tell from my first appointment with Dr. Ly that he's in the optometry profession because he loves what he does, he loves helping his patients, and he loves helping them see well and clearly. Dr. Ly is also so honest and you can tell he truly cares for each and every patient that he has. (I've sat in his waiting room and have seen his interaction with all of his patients on a busy Saturday in his office.) During my first phone call to Dr. Ly, and after I told him my eyeglasses problems, did you know what Dr. Ly replied? Dr. Ly told me that he would love to help me! This is my first time coming here and decided to give them a try because of their location and they take my insurance as well. The optometrist Dr. Lee was very professional and reassuring and gave me a great deal of information which I appreciate it very much since some optometrists don't really speak very much and just do their tests as required. I ordered my glasses that I needed due to my astigmatism. And the only reason why I did not give them five stars is because they do not have all the equipment to test for glaucoma. This place is an absolute jewel of an optometry. I've been coming to this place for years, even after I moved. The drive for me takes about 45-60 minutes depending on traffic, but the service here is worth it. After coming back from another eye exam, I've decided to give back to them by writing here. Let me just break this place down into sections. First off, Dr. Ly is fantastic. I've gone to other optometrists before, but trust me when I say this; there's no one else out there like him. You can tell how passionate he is about the health of his patients in the way he talks about the proper care for your eyes. After he noticed how fast my eye sight was deteriorating after I had gotten my new job, he gave me tips on protecting my eyes from strain. After his advice, my vision has been a lot more stable! On top of that, the eye exam process is silky smooth. Dr. Ly's calming voice and evident patience is something that I will always appreciate. Not to mention, he's a great guy to bounce jokes off of. Secondly, the staff is always super helpful in helping me choose my glasses. As a customer, I'm the worst. I'm picky and indecisive, but it never seems to be a problem for them. First of all If I could give this place 100 stars I would!!! My glasses had broken on a Saturday and I was able to get an appointment on a Sunday. I'd gotten a call if I could come earlier which worked out. From the moment I stepped in I believe her name is Judy, greeted me and attended me right away. Got all my insurance information and let me know which glasses were fully covered. I was able to try on glasses while it was my turn to see the doctor. The doctor gave me such a wonderful experience and had let me know about glasses he is currently working on and had me try them on. Over all from start to finish this was the best eye doctor visit I've ever had. ALSO to my surprise my glasses were ready for pickup in a matter of 2 days which was the cherry on top. Optometrist is amazing but lens service was horrible. I brought in my own glasses when I got my eye exam. I was pushed to get a pair of plastic glasses because my insurance covered it. I gave in because I wasn't being charged. My biggest concern when getting a lens was the glare of the glasses. They were trying to upsell one of their lens they recommended for me. I asked if the glasses had any additional glare or tint and they said no. I decided to buy it and had to pay out of pocket. I was told I could pick them up Tuesday. Tuesday comes and they are not ready and they told me pick them up Friday. False promise. Don't over promise your customers. I pick them up Friday and the lens were blue with a bunch of glare. I told them I was unhappy. They don't offer refunds but they offered to change them for me. I get them back and the glare was still there. At that point, I was fed up and over it, I decided to let things go. I recommend getting your eye exam here and going somewhere else for your lenses or frames. read more

I like the services provided by Fremont Optometry. From my experiences among other eye doctors I've encountered, they would usually just exam my eyes, then gave me my prescriptions, and sent me on my way to choose a frame. But with Dr. Ly, it was different. Even on my first visit, Dr. Ly was and still is very informative/friendly during and after the eye exam process. He would go in dept in informing me about my current eyes condition, the cause of the problem, and ways/tips on what I should/can do to take better care of my eyes. I saw that this place is really close by to home and had really good reviews so I thought I would give it a shot. When I got to see Dr. Ly, he was very professional and did his best to make when evaluating my eyesight. After the evaluation, he gave me a diagnostic that was quite different from all the other optometrists I've ever visited. He told me that my vision was near perfect except for the fact that I had astigmatism, and gave me a very thorough explanation of what it was and how I was able to remedy it. No other optometrists had ever done that for me in my 16 years of wearing glasses.
