Does that look medium to you?
    Maria T.

Disappointing first experience. First impressions - 3 stars: doesn't look like much from the outside and the inside was outdated. Lots of tables, a bar, and several grills out in the open. I believe pre-Covid they allowed patrons to cook their own steaks. Steaks/food - 2 stars: my hubbie and son ordered 12 oz. Ribeyes medium-rare. They came out medium and medium-well. I ordered a filet medium and it came out well... No pink whatsoever. I could not eat mine so they put another one on the grill. It came out rare. They put it back on the grill right in front of me and after a few minutes they brought it over to me medium-rare. Again, I ordered it medium. But fine. I ate it. It was not seasoned at all. The Ribeyes were $35. Mine was $26.50. For steaks that expensive... unacceptable. Service - 5 stars: Lisa made up for the food. She was very nice and very apologetic for the steaks. She expalined that our cook was new. Lisa was also very attentive, bringing us all drink refills often. And for $3.95 a drink, we were appreciative of it. In the end, our bill was discounted and we received a free cookie dessert which was amazing! 5 stars for Lisa and 5 stars for the cookie. Overall: 3 stars (raised to a 3 due to the good service). We may give them another try in the future...

Alexander's was a restaurant I thought about going to on my first night in Bloomington but ended up not going due to the reviews compared to Baxter's (another steakhouse). Well after having both, I will hands down choose Alexander's everytime. It reminds me of the traditional old school steakhouses like Sizzler/Ponderosa/Bonanza growing up. It's has an all you can eat salad bar, baked potato, & Texas toast. The real reason to go to Alexander's is because of the steaks. As others mentioned, there are 2 huge charcoal indoor grills you can choose to grill your steak. To grill your own is free. You just choose your meat from display case refrigerators or you pay the local grill master $2 to cook it for you. Now I've grilled hundreds of steaks in my lifetime and I can never cook it to the right temp. So rather than cook my own and mess it up, I'll leave it to a professional who will do it right. And in the event he messes up, it doesn't cost me anything to get another. The choices of meat are abundant and high quality. The steak I got would have costed me at least 50$ at a high-end steakhouse. It was between 16-18 ounces and at almost an inch thick. At Alexander's my Kansas City Strip (bone-in NY strip) with a S. African lobster tail and sweet tea cost me around $50. You can't beat that price and the steak was delicious! I love this place!

Great steak place - a bit pricy. But! You do get all the salad, potatoes, garlic toast you want with the steak (or protein you option up for) *you can have there "professionals" cook your steak for an up charge - but this places atmosphere begs for you to stand about and grill your own meal. Full bar and Coke products (although Zero unavailable). Like I said pricey but it's okay to splurge occasionally.

    Welcome to great food!

I was excited to see an Alexander s, since I had been to the Peoria location many times and always had a great experience. I will say the waitress did a great job. The salad bar was missing items at 6:00 pm, I was surprised they were out of. The steaks are usually outstanding, mine was cooked great, the quality was not the standards I was used to from Peoria. A quarter of the steak was mostly fat and should have been cut off before it was cooked. If I could do a redo, I would have drove to Peoria!

Awesome salad bar and pineapple is the bomb. Skillet cookie is the best dessert I've ever had. The Sirloin was also the bomb

Go somewhere else for stakes, the salad bar is lacking and typically looks stale. The stakes are fine, fish is typically a no go.

It was fine, though the cocktail sauce could have used a little more horseradish. The basket of warm bread and whipped butter was great. And The salads were excellent (we went for a standard greens salad and a Caesar salad). For the main dish, we each ordered a bacon wrapped filet, medium rare, with Brussels sprouts. The filets were prepared as directed, but seemed dry, tough and flavorless. Disappointed. But worse was the Brussels sprouts (one of our favorites). The sprouts were hard, woefully undercooked and crunchy. Not in a good way. The flavor was lost in the rough texture. Very disappointed. The staff seemed a little flustered too. Brought a side a sautéed onions when we'd ordered mushrooms. Too bad, as we had enjoyed our pasta meals before and had expected a steakhouse to perform better.

We decided to go with the rustic pizzas that were delicious and unusual: harmony, Korean, chicken and loaded supreme. The crust tasted like it was from a woodfired oven and the Korean chicken pizza was so unusual and tasty with kimchi and pickled shiitake. The fresh from the forest mushroom side dish they gave us a special treat to us was quite a delicacy. Even the farm to table items they have for sale when you walk in to take home are a treat, Especially the homemade marshmallows! Ended with dessert of a fresh orange olive oil cake with just tremendous flavor and blood orange on the side and orange marmalade on the cake. It served exquisitely with a side of homemade ice cream that was to die for. We can't wait to come back! Our waitress, Lupe, treated us like family and was incredibly personal and warm. We started with the sashimi plate. The fish was fresh- including tuna, salmon, shrimp- placed over small celery bites. A variety of sauces were dotted around the plate's edge. The dish would have benefited from some ginger and more sauce. Our entrees included Pork Coppa Ramen- which was a solid dish- strong beef broth flavor and the sambal (chili sauce) -a few cents extra- added a good depth of flavor. The fish bowl- tuna, salmon- with rice, pickled veggies, and gim (Korean seaweed) was tasty. It was even tasty the next day cold out of the fridge. Our server Jack did a nice job- we sampled their roasted carrots- and they were actually our favorite bite. We also had the potato graten and they were tasty- but could have been easily skipped with our Asian dinner vibe. The restaurant has a great eclectic historical vibe and was busy on a Friday night, but still felt spacious. The drink menu is a good selection- we enjoyed wine with dinner (a solid Pinot noir). I would definitely go back to have the pizza- which looked delicious at a couple of the neighboring tables. This is a great date night venue or girls night out.

We had a reservation so we were seated promptly at a large table in its own little alcove in the back. While the place was busy, we could chat comfortably with one another and felt adequately separate from other tables. The menu has a bit of everything, so everyone should be able to find something they like on it. We started with cocktails, mozzarella sticks, and pretzel bites. The cocktails were good but I could've used less sweetness in mine. The mozzarella sticks and pretzels bites were standard, which means they were great as usual. For a group of 5 of us, an order of each was enough to hold us over until the main meal. I personally got the fish sandwich for my dinner with fries. The fish was great and large enough that it hung over the sides of the bun. My only complaint about the sandwich was the lack of tartar sauce on it. The cook must have just added the smallest dash, as the only sign it was there was a little spot of discoloration on the bun. The fish was good but the sandwich would have been better with more moisture from that tartar. The fries it came with were standard shoe string fries. Nothing special but hit the spot all the same. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their meals as well and we left comfortably full with no leftovers. Overall the meal came at a good pace, the atmosphere was nice, and the prices were reasonably.
