We had a group of 14 and the service was great. I had the special for the day, which was a prosciutto wrapped halibut with scallops, and it might have been the best fish I've ever had. Their bourbon selection was great, and they had a wide range of gluten free options. read more

Had the Sunday brunch. Amazing, outstanding, stupendous. Variety overwhelming. Service good and friendly. Priced right

I was there the other night and it was the best. My filet melted in my mouth. The serve was excellent. I have you on list of favorites. Thank you read more

Amy is an amazing hostess and the food and drinks at Alexander's are always super!

To my taste, Alexander's is the most upscale restaurant in Door County which attempts to preserve the Door County charm without being too trendy or pretentious. I don't often get to visit this class of restaurants, and when I do, I rarely have as good an experience as I had here. For the downside first, I must advise you that if you are looking for a restaurant with a great view, and while there are many of those, this restaurant cannot be counted among them. Fortunately, rather than rest on a fantastic waterview location, they make up for it in quality food and service. Even though I did not have a reservation, I was seated promptly and waited on attentively. The dining room was very tastefully decorated. My waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable about the dinner menu, nightly specials and wine parings. The wine menu offered a very good selection of domestic and international wines. If I recall correctly, dinner included a house salad, but this salad was comparable to premium salads found at other restaurants with a wide variety of greens, seasonal fruits, cheeses and a balanced vinaigrette dressing. While the quality of bread cannot break a meal by itself, it does go a long way to making meal and the fresh bread here is worthy of special comment. For the entre I selected a pricey cut of meat that is often poorly prepared, but my entre was prepared perfectly. In addition, I chose to add one of the french sauces which was perfectly flavored and complimented my cut of meat. All of this elegance comes at a price, which is a fair way of saying that Alexander's is at the high end of the scale for dining in Door County, but I never felt like anything was overpriced. In short, whenever I have a very special occasion that I wish to celebrate I will consider Alexander's above anywhere else in Door County. read more

DO NOT go to this place. My husband and I were staying the weekend in a really cute B&B in Fish Creek to celebrate his 40th birthday. We chose Alexander's for our big 'night out', and boy were we disappointed. First, the place is super cheesy and dated. Our droid zero-personality server hurried us through ordering, and our food flew out of the kitchen ....tempura shrimp which were completely forgettable for an appetizer, and then I had the crab stuffed shrimp, my husband a steak. He knows his stuff when it comes to cooking/enjoying meat, and not only was his steak overcooked, but wasn't seasoned in the slightest -- as if they just took it out of their walk-in and threw it on the grill. My shrimp was overcooked, and nearly flavorless. To top it off, the haricots vertz that came as a side were limp, and drowning in oil. AWFUL! We couldn't get out of there fast enough....should have taken the hint from our B&B proprietor, when asked about Alexander's, he gave an unenthusiastic 'eh'. 'Eh' at best. Don't waste your money - go over to the Whistling Swan and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere, food and hospitality. read more

Wow! What a wonderful restaurant! I had the Chicken Sophia, my husband had the Pork Chop a la Chloe. Both were spectacular. I am going home to try to reinvent the chicken, it was unbelievably good. Best restaurant in Door County! read more

Absolutely awesome place!!! Saturday special of Tenderloin was outstanding! Cooked perfectly! Set atop asparagus with halendase sauce!

We've been coming for years and the brunch is always really good. Reasonably priced is a nice bonus, too!

We went to this place at the 4th of July, the place we wanted to go to was closed. I'm so glad we did, the Ribeye steak with Gogonzola cheese and Bernaise sause was the best combination I ever had. The steak was so tender you could cut it with a fork. Can't wait to go back...the only thing is I wish the portion was a little bit bigger for the price. My daughter loved the green bean mix also. read more

Hold up. You're wondering why this is a bad review. This was one of the best restaurants I've eaten at in door county, by far. BUT the 2 stars is for their inexcusably terrible wait staff. We came in with a fairly large group of people for a pre wedding dinner (with a far in advance reservation) and they were excellent at first but turned pretty sour soon after that. We asked to split our bills up by couples and separates and they were very rude about the number of people paying separately. We then asked to split our bills up evenly throughout the group and they still showed that they were frustrated. Our bill, as a whole group, ended up being over $850, and one person had to pay for the entire cost themselves, because their computers couldn't handle the number of credit card payments. We ARE young working professionals, but unfortunately can't afford to pay for a dinner bill of that expense! That being said, we won't be returning, just because of the service we received at the end of the evening. Which sucks, because their food was great. read more

The best "nice" place to eat dinner in Door County. You can't go wrong with anything on their menu. They have a pretty good wine list, and good cocktails from the bar. Desert is amazing, especially the tiramisu. read more

My wishes to jet back to Hotel du Nord days of old have sadly been crushed. We waited for a table, but that was no issue, the hostess was kind and professional. She took a drink order while we waited in the bar, and checked in on us multiple times. Wait was approx 30 minutes. Issues started after sitting. Bread and water came immediately, but drink orders were slow, and the wait to place our meal order was excruciating. Three courses ordered, each slower than the last. We arrived at 6:06 and left at 8:40. Baked Brie was standard fare, chowder was thin, salad uninspired. Steak was well prepared, but side potatoes and veg, just hum drum. Ravioli was hand made, sauce was flavorful and zesty. Words cannot describe how put off I was by seeing kitchen crew on the floor in camo shorts, work sneakers and a headband. Having cooked fine dining many years, if you are going to represent the kitchen to guests dining, that's not the way to do it. Really just sad all my fond memories and positive stories I had relayed to my husband weren't reflected tonight. Food was okay, service was fair, but sloooooooooooooooow. read more

We've been coming up to Door county for year's, but never tried this place. Finally went for a 5pm reservation. Got there 5-8 mins before. Very coldly told we were too early to be seated for the first dinner seating. Are you kidding me?Staff not very friendly about it either.Yes, I get it. For Door this restaurant is upscale but friendliness by hostesses could have been MUCH better. Does that cost extra too? I got the duck and was majorly disappointed. Duck was dry and overcooked. The cherry sauce had the rice pilaf swimming in it. Should be on the side, not dumped all over. My husband got the Cowboy steak which he did enjoy but what was strange was the steak was dumped on top the garlic mashed potatoes. Why? The only part of the meal that was exceptional were the crab cakes, which were excellent. Suffice to say, I'm glad to find out all these year's of going to Door I wasn't missing something by never having gone to this overhyped restaurant. read more

This supper club was recommended by one of my friends. We both have grown up around super clubs our whole life. We were seated right in the front by the kitchen/ hostess. It wasn't busy at all, and we weren't dressed up to part either. I asked that we be moved to a table a little farther from the traffic. The blonde haired hostess/ manger or who ever she was finally came over and preceded to tell me they would be getting busy and if I wanted a specific table I better reserve it next time. I proceeded to tell her I had no problem leaving and eating somewhere else because there were 10 tables open in the dinning area where I would like to be seated. I have never in my entire life been treated like such garbage like I didn't belong. The food and waiter was great however, but I didn't like how she treated us, I'm sorry if a button down shirt and jeans weren't good enough at the time. I spent $100 plus dollars and gave a 20% tip like most other people. Do your selves a favor and go right down the road to The English Inn. They were down to earth and treated us with respect the next night.. read more

We go to Alexander's a lot and have always had good food and service for a reasonable price. That's why it's our go to restaurant choice.

EXCELLENT!! Winter Christmas vacation, not as many restaurant choices, but was pleasantly surprised to find a 5 STAR place just minutes from our cozy cottage. Our filets literally melted in our mouths, unique mashed potato that seemed subtly cheesy with hints of fresh butter and some extras we still can't put our finger on. A unique cheesy/garlicky picky bread appetizer. We shared fantastic desserts of almond ice cream and a heavy decadent peanut butter torte. Would seriously go back to Door County for this restaurant alone, but feel sure that it is probably very hard to get in during summertime! read more

This is a great place to eat. Yes the interior might be a little dated but who can eat that. The place is packed tonight so make reservations. Third visit and we're from South Georgia read more

Great atmosphere, service was good but I would not say it was great. Wait staff I thought was very polite and offered good suggestions but I just felt she was a little over bearing. Would definitely suggest a visit. read more

I have never eaten somewhere with such good food and service. We were seated immediately, served with drinks and filled waters in under 5 minutes. We were treated with such respect . The staff were great listeners. The owner cooked our omelets at the buffet table and indicated that he made the MASSIVE beautiful buffet just that morning. It looked more put together than a wedding catering. The lobster gumbo, spicy pico de gallo , homemade omelets, capris medlies, and fresh BlackBerry nut salads were my FAVORITE. The food was crafted so well with such amazing flavor interactions. I assume the owner shops for all food ingredients fresh the night before or morning of to produce such fresh food. The cherry mimosas were so savory and quenching. What an amazing anomaly of a restaurant! I am gluten free and they prepared a separate gluten free lava cake for me FREE OF CHARGE! I am overly impressed and definitely telling everyone about this place. read more

A great dining experience! Went on a whim on a Tuesday night between Christmas and New Year. Got there at 5:30 and thought it would be empty... But it wasn't... I had the Alexander's salad followed by the sesame crusted tuna. All tasted amazing! My husband had the nightly special... Twin lobster tails... So yummy (at least what he shared). The service (Romeo) and ambiance were great as well. Hoping to go again before our vacation ends. read more

Been here multiple times and never have had a bad meal......Steak and fish are great. Will be back.

Consistently great food and service. Fair prices for the quality. Good wine selection.

Enjoyed a very nice Sunday brunch at Alexander's. They offered a very nice selection of breakfast favorites, including eggs benedict and made to order omelets. Some of the other items on the buffet table were beef tips, salmon, swedish meatballs and a variety of creative salads. The chef was on top of all the different selections to make sure they were filled and fresh. The buffet was a reasonable $15 which included a glass of champagne or mimosa. The only surprise was coffee was not included. read more

Love the Sunday brunch. We come to Door County every year for four days and we make sure to always get to Alexander's for brunch. Always yummy. read more

This is my favorite dinning place in Door... and I live here. I usually pick an open spot where I like to sit. I also have my favorite waiters. I have yet to have a bad meal. The kitchen is very accommodating to slight variations in the menu when it isn't super busy. Bruce Alexander and his staff are excellent to work with. If one has a complaint, in my experience the situation is made right. I don't understand some of the other complaints. When you pay good money, you get the great service; what you'd expect. read more

Amazing food, great server, but no Door County Wine.. If it wasn't for the missing wine I would have gave them a five.

This is my first time coming to this place, we happened to just pop in on our way back south... there was no wait to be seated at the bar, their cocktails and drinks were absolutely amazing! Their menu completely satisfied... I had the scallop appetizer, it had a hint of some sort of balsamic, it complimented it great! My boyfriend got the NY Strip, complimented with a gorgonzola butter topping, SO GOOD! If you're in door county, you HAVE to check this place out :) read more

I'm a fan! I walk in and immediately feel like I'm in a fancy club somewhere else, big-city feel. The bar is expansive with professional servers, friendly and attentive. You may catch a glimpse of the chef/owner checking things out briefly chatting with patrons. The dining room is comfortable and the menu extensive with all the good things foodies crave when they dine out. I selected two appetizers in lieu of a full entrée consisting of king crab cakes and a scallop-pasta concoction that caught the attention of fellow diners. I also sopped-up a goat cheese- spinach soup that was unique with a slight gaminess I enjoyed. Both appetizers were cooked perfectly and delicious. My better-half chose tuna served rare and it was also excellent with a side of horseradish sauce. No complaints at our table. Good selection of wines. Our Romanian server, Claudia, was on top of the entire dinner guaranteeing a wonderful night. Prices in the 20's and 30's, an investment in satisfaction. read more

Sunday brunch on 4/1/12 was the best meal of our annual "Sisters-'n-Spouses weekend". Fabulous food, from eggs, potatos, bacon, sausage, freshly made omelettes, a large variety salads, seafood newburg (which was my favorite), fresh fruit, yummy desserts and includes a glass of champagne or mimosa. Service was above and beyond. Two person wait-staff handled everything efficiently and politely. The omelette chef was great too. Wonderful ambiance. Will definitely return next year for Sunday brunch, and hopefully for dinner too! read more

WE really liked this as a special treat. We had the cherry duck, the cherry barbeque salmon, steak, and desserts. Everything was excellent. Cocktails were well made. Pricey place, but for special occasions, worth it. read more

The experience was fantastic! The food was a 10, the ambiance was perfect. Would recommend for a good meal. We had the filet and bone in ribeye. read more

The signage and menu are very misleadinng - there was nothing contemporary or fine about this cuisine and for the price ($39 for the 6 oz. filet mignon) it was incredibly disappointing. The service was very good and I truly felt sorry for the server as he took away our barely-touched meals. The appetizers were fairly tasty. We had the artichoke and gorgonzola spread that was good, but the presentation, a dish on a white paper doily with a variety of grocery store crackers and pieces of bread around it was depresssing. The escargot had good flavor, but were barely warm and also served with the same ritz-style crackers on doily. The beef vegetable soup was so salty it was inedible and the squash soup was not bad tasting, but the texture was creepily grainy. Both our steaks, filet mignon and ribeye, were cooked and seasoned properly but the sides were cold shards of bell pepper and green and wax beans and an ice scoop pile of lukewarm twice cooked scallopy bland potatoes with hints of char. I can't tell you how the desserts were because I didn't think I could abide any more disappointment....Ambiance? The walls, curtains and ceiling were all a tired dark plum color and the chairs were stackable style. The hostess was wearing the jeans I do yard work in and the it became clear at the end of the meal that the management banks on unsuspecting out-of-towners rather than trying to build a credible dining establishment. read more

Having enjoyed several fine restaurants in beautiful Door County over the last 15 years, I must confess this is the worst "nice restaurant" on the Peninsula. This review comes 15 hours after eating there for the first time. Prior to criticising the meal it is important for me to note that the wait staff was truly wonderful and kind. Our waitress was superb and the hostess was more than kind. From what I could see of the rest of the staff I noted they were getting good responses from other patrons. This particular dining adventure began with an order of two grey goose dirty martinis requested slightly dirty with pimento olives. What my date and I received were two olives floating in the Dead Sea dyed as green as the Chicago river on St. Patrick's day. I assume the bartender is not familiar in making these. An order of 2 glasses of wine followed. Next was an order of beef barley soup and escargot for an appetizer. Anyone reading this who loves snails as much as I do knows the best part of this dish is the oil, butter, and garlic you get to dip your bread into after eating snail drenched in the same. For reasons I'll never understand the chef served the snails and mushrooms on a bed of French bread which obviously soaked up everything delicious about the dish. What was left was a pile of dry snails and mushrooms. I ate every last bit because I don't believe in wasting a snail. It was, however, difficult to accomplish. For my entry I ordered the rack of lamb special. I love lamb. I ordered it medium rare in hopes of receiving what is usually a tender and delicious meat. The rack came out on top of a tasty scoop of garlic mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. I cut into the meat and was shocked to see that it was still raw. Like a fool I took a bite prior to looking at the meat and immediately wished for my martini back so I could sanitize my mouth. This is the first dish I have ever sent back anywhere but I had no choice. The chef cooked it some more and it was served back to me cooked appropriately. I have never had rack of lamb served in segments of 3 ribs. 3 segments were served which made for a decent serving of meat. However, the meat itself was tough and hard to remove from the bones. I'm confused at this way of serving rack of lamb and am not sure if it was a butcher's error or the chef's. Regardless, I would never have it again. My other half ordered salmon with cherry bbq sauce. She liked it because it was different but noted it was not worth the $26 or so it was priced at. Dessert was not feasible because my date is lactose intolerant. I cannot fault the restaurant for this. The dessert options did look quite good. I opted to have a sweet drink as a night cap before paying $112 dollars pre gratuity for a meal for 2 which was no where near worth such a price. I will never eat here again. read more
