This place has a typical northern Wisconsin supper club atmosphere. Appetizers and entrees range from poor to good good but not great. They try to offer too many options instead of concentrating on their strengths. The desserts were very good. Service is excellent. read more

i just wanted to put in a quick review for this place. this restaurant is good, but its really like traveling back in time about 25 years to 1992. if you go back to that time, this spot was probably among the best restaurants for a normal person in not one of the major us cities. well its the same today, except its 2017. this place has the pre-made salads and with the dinners they have the side of multi-colored green beans that seem to come with most dishes. i havent seen either of these things in several years. the new restaurants in door county are mostly putting an emphasis on local ingredients, farm to table, higher quality food, etc. this place isnt doing that, or at least they arent listing anywhere if they get any local products. so its good, not incredible, and its dated. if youre an older person who is their main clientele, you would probably love it. i just wouldnt recommend coming here if you are in door county for only the weekend or 3-4 days. theres many other restaurants that are better. read more

Great food great service Lovely nite out I loved the garden patio the little humming birds added a special touch read more

Best meal we've had in Door County! Beautiful place. Fantastic service. We had crab cakes to start, got 2 big cakes that were superb with a really yummy little salad (loved the mango vinagarette)! Alexander salad was as beautiful as it was tasty. I think our entree was chicken Sophia, so delicious! Even the veggies on the side were perfect! read more

Ah-mazing!! My husband and I went on a Monday night, wasn't too busy. Server greeted us promptly. Had a great appetizer like a spinach dip, can't remember the name, but really good. We both ordered steaks Oscar style... and my god... sooooo tender!! So juicy! Old fashioneds were on point as well! read more

Me and my boyfriend went here for our anniversary dinner and it was amazing! The service was outstanding I recommend our waiter Mark he was the best! The food was to die for I had the steak and was very impressed. We will be coming back! read more

We went for dinner Friday night February 1, 2013. This was our second time in the last couple of months. It will also be our last. We had to be reseated three times, because they kept putting us in a drafty area rather than an inside area, and I am usually warm rather than cold. Their first attempt was out in a glass enclosed atrium on a 2 degree night!?!?. There were many empty tables, so no reason to be treated like this. My meal was stuffed shrimp served in a small appetizer sized dish- 6 medium shrimp The mashed potatoes were hard, cold and about 1/4 cup serving. The same for the vegetables. I felt like I was in a Tapas bar, and for this I was charged 27.00. I should have complained, but it had already been a very disappointing experience. The only positive experience was our waiter who tried hard to make our dinner acceptable, by keeping our coffee hot and checking back with us. He even made an apology for how my meal was served. read more

This was one of the more schizophrenic dining experiences I've had. Let's review. 1. We arrived, waited way too long for someone to acknowledge us at the maitre d' stand. When someone did, it was a waitress who told us they had to clear a table for our reservation. She then forgot about us and let us sit at the bar for 15 minutes. We went back up to the maitre d' stand and finally got seated - though without an apology. 2. Our waitress (not the one who forgot us) was great. She gave suggestions, came over frequently enough but not enough to be annoying - overall she was just very pleasant. 3) Appetizer was great, desert was amazing - but my duck entree, though very tasty, was overcooked. My girlfriends shrimp carbonara was very good. 4) When we ordered desert and asked if the chocolate cake w/ home made orange ice cream had any nuts or nut extracts, the waitress called the pastry chef at home to be 100% sure that it was nut free. (my girlfriend has a pretty bad allergy). I thought that was a really nice thing to do - even though she probably should have known ahead of time. Also, as ordered desert, a busboy started moving chairs and tables on one side of the room to the wall, getting ready for close. Considering the restaurant was still seating new customers, I thought this was rude and unnecessary. I know they want to be clean and be able to go home quickly - but it made us feel rushed and it was only about 9:30. Luckily the food was pretty good or I wouldn't go back. read more

Went to celebrate a birthday with out of town guests. Fri fish fry was marginal at best - batter was heavy & perch over-cooked, not to mention augratin potatoes seemed processed. Waiter completely misrepresented appetizer special; main ingredient (cream cheese) wasn't shared & was overbearing. Room temp was off - we were told AC wasn't working near our table. For the price of our meal & drinks ($170), this place was a HUGE disappointment. Don't bother wasting your money here, when there are so many other choices in the Northern Door! read more

Please explain to me why a restaurant would take reservations if they won't honor them. Half an hour past and we are still waiting. What a joke. The hostess keeps saying "1 minute, 1 minute". Should've gone to the English Inn! I won't be back here. read more

We ate here twice in five days and enjoyed our dinners both times. The first night my husband had whitefish and I had the duck. Very good. The next time, my husband had the salmon and I had rack of lamb. Both were excellent as was the service. read more

Went there on a Saturday night in late March, kind of the off-season or beginning of the shoulder season. First, had to wait a half-hour to be seated, all while there was an 80% empty dining room. Did they just want to sell us a couple beers at the bar? Were they short staffed because it was off season? Gave them the benefit of a doubt. Sat down at the bar, bartender was very nice, but I don't think capable of making any drink that involved mixing more than X liquor with Y soda. Had some good Wisconsin beer on tap, which he also knew nothing at all about, so had a New Glarus and continued to wait. Finally the hostess found us and sat us down. We got menus, some water and some bread from the support staff and then . . . nothing. Seriously nothing for over a half-hour. No one came by to introduce themselves, mention the specials, nothing. A couple of servers wandered by and talked to other tables, but we might as well have been invisible. Also noticed both of the tables on either side of ours having to flag down someone to get their checks delivered, should have been some signal. After waiting more than half and hour, finishing the water and the bread, we just got up and left. It was one of the weirdest experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. Found a place a couple of towns down the road that could not have been friendlier, and probably saved us $50 or $60 anyway. Skip it. read more

Wonderful champagne brunch! Lots of choices and very importantly had an omelette station. A wonderful way to end our vacation.

First let me say.....this place is expensive! Dark, WI supper club interior with a big bar area. Generous wine pours and great mixed drinks. Our table decided to do a tapas dinner of starters. Sweet thai shrimp a favorite but only 4 shrimp in a martini glass. Tuna appetizer expensive but a generous portion. This could easily be dinner for me. Shrimp tempura also very good. Baked brie is huge and could easily be an appetizer for 4. Service was fast, efficient and friendly. And the place was packed for a Tuesday night in April! read more

Really a terrific restaurant with wonderful ambience and food. Great location right off Hwy 42 just north of Fish Creek. The Filet Minion is delicious! Good wine selection too. Great place for couples in a unique combination of swanky fancy lifestyle with down home old fashioned WI supper club nostalgia. read more

I've been here before and was wowed. Last night was not as great. First off, if they want to stay in business it's time to think about a younger clientele. Changing the music is imperative. Listening to the greatest hits from the 50s was a bore. The food. I ordered my steak rare. I was explicit. It could not be too rare. I got medium rare. They did comp a desert for the faux pas. But it really wasn't as good as it's been in the past. Somebody isn't paying attention. read more

Went for a romantic evening with my wife. Service was slow. Food was average. Had a large group of people who had just come from the bar seated next to us. Very loud. Couldn't even hear each other talk. Mentioned something to hostess on the way out and she was extremely rude. Will NEVER go back. Would have considered it if hostess even offered a simple sorry. Instead a snippy comment. You got my money once, never again. read more

This place was fantastic. The staff was very friendly and made me and my girlfriend feel welcome to their establishment. Food was outstanding. I got the tenderloin and my girlfriend got the chicken ravioli. I cant remember our waiters name but he was also very good. When we go back to fish creek we will be dining here again. I strongly recommend this place. We left with our stomachs full and happy. read more

My wife and I recently visited while vacationing and came out with mixed feelings. We were quite excited after seeing the menu and prices assuming it would be great quality food. We arrived for our reservation on time but we're not seated for about 20 minutes. It seemed that they were severely understaffed the entire Saturday night. After being seated it took quite some time for our waiter to take our order. My wife ordered the filet mignon and I had the New York strip steak. While the food was good, it was incredibly overpriced. The steaks reminded me of food I would have in a cheap, small, family owned restaurant. To top off the night, we found 4 or 5 small pieces of meat on the windshield of my car. We were parked right outside the kitchen window but I do not know if it was staff or a customer. read more

Delicious, upscale restaurant in Door County that is great for dinner. I had the Roasted Cherry Duck which was delicious and I definitely recommend. The seafood chowder came with it and it was amazing. My family had the New York Strip (which was okay for steak) and the Chicken Ravioli (also delicious). Definitely make a reservation as it was quite busy when we went. read more

Our family went to Alexander's for my wife's 60th birthday dinner. We were not disappointed. Service was spot on. Drinks were made to perfection. The dinner specials were very good. The lamb special and the scallops were to die for. We would highly recommend. read more

My husband and I agree this was the best meal we've had in a year. He had grouper, and I had stuffed shrimp, which were both cooked to perfection. We had the crab cakes as an appetizer, and they were delicious! The whitefish chowder was not your typical chowder. The spices made it amazing! The au gratin potatoes were made with smoked cheese and were delightful. Only wish we had left room for dessert! read more

This place is marvelous!! We happen Ned upon it because row keys bay restaurant lost all power, and couldn't open for theis Sunday prime rib buffet. So we googled Sunday buffets, And Alexander's popped up. Their buffet was to die for. !!!!!! No prime rib, but seafood Nuremberg, quiche, seafood pasta salad and an omelet station with all fresh ingredients, plus the regular breakfast items. We also looked at their lunch and dinner menu. The menu had steaks, lobster, and shrimp and all were very affordable. Were glad we discovered this diamond in the rough. We were on the way home and this restaurant proved to sum up this trip to a T!!! We will definitely be going back there for dinner AND the Sunday buffet. Alexander's, a perfect way to end a vacay. read more

The breakfast buffet was incredible with lots of options. Besides the amazing food, the service was incredible! Employees were very nice and accommodating as my friend who is gluten free got offered a dessert that was not in the buffet at no extra cost. Incredible customer service! read more

Wow! I've only had one bite, but the blackened tuna is easily one of the best I've ever had!!! My wife is eating the scallops and thinks that they are some of the best she's ever had, you don't often get a chance in an offseason restaurant to get food like this. Bruce, Alexander, has really put together a top notch venue for exceptional food! His wait staff is very attentive to our needs, and the cocktail portion of the service is equally as good. If you have the opportunity to eat at Alexanders in Fish Creek, by all means do so!!! read more

Had Mother's Day Brunch here with my mom and dad. We enjoyed ALL the food and didn't eat the rest of the day. So much for the price. They even handed out a fresh rose to each of the mom's that visited on Sunday. Would like to try their normal menu next time I am in the area. read more

Hadn't been there for dinner for 4-5 years. We were looking to go somewhere different and the menu has a variety for everyone in the group. Service was very attentive, all questions were answered politely. Water glass was never less than 1/2 full. It was a busy Saturday night too. The strip steak was cooked medium as ordered and it was just right. The au gratin style potatoes and veggies were very good. Someone else had the pork chop ala Chloe. Same result, very good. The chicken Alexander was really good too. No complaints, only complements. The potato and ham soup was really good too. A really nice meal all around and everyone liked it. We will go back since again, they have a good selection and decent value too. Come try it if you haven't. read more

Outstanding food that is amazingly prepared with excellent service! We just can't say enough to describe how much we like the salads and unique appetizers and specials. No wrong choices available after years of dining at Alexander's. read more

This place was the upscale and delicious meal we needed tonight. My husband's steak was perfectly medium rare and tender, the vegetable and starch (smoked cheese potato) sides were really good, and my crab stuffed shrimp were lemony and buttery and better than I expected. Would have preferred the salad dressing on the side, but I should have asked. Would have preferred a more grainy artisanal bread. But the stuff that mattered was great! Service was spot on and the music was a good blend of Sinatra and Motown. read more

Our waiter was so nice! The food is super good too. The hostesses were a bit odd because they took a little bit to acknowledge us even though we were standing right in front of them and there was really nothing going on. The food is really well-priced! read more

Alexander's was highly recommended to us as a great steakhouse with an extensive menu. We couldn't have been more disappointed. The "crostini" was really a loaf of cheese stuffed bread similar to Stouffers frozen pizza bread-definitely not crostini. Salads- meh. I ordered the Gorgonzola stuffed tenderloin and will take responsibility for making that mistake. The Gorgonzola was gooey, salty, and overwhelmed the meat; the Demi- glacé sauce was again over salted and from a package. I must also point out the sides of over seasoned, Au gratin potatoes (who decided that goes together?), and salt ladened green beans. It was our first dinner in Door County and we were so mislead. Do people really believe this is fine dining? There have got to be better restaurants here! I will give the bartender high marks though, he was attentive and made good cocktail! read more

Had dinner on a Saturday night. Very busy and a tad noisy but never felt rushed. Dinner was excellent with menu choices being well thought out.....we had steak and duck. I would plan to come back. I would pick Alexander's for a higher end restaurant read more

Second visit to Alexander's was as good as the first. This time I had the lobster special, which was excellent. Claudia provided prompt, polite, knowledgeable service. She was delightful and seemed truly happy that we enjoyed our meal. I topped the dinner off with crème brulee, also very good. Another wonderful dining experience at Alexander's. read more

OUTSTANDING sea food dishes. And the escargot were different and great also. The only negative is they have a big wine list of cheap wines from New Zealand, Germany, France, Napa (CA), and completely ignored the local wineries just a few miles away, whose wines would put all those cheap imports on the trailer immediately. Visiting from California, and having visited those other lands too, the locals are very good and deserve proper respect. Decore and service were 5 star. read more

The food here deserves a 5 star rating. This was our second visit. I had the cherry BBQ salmon and my partner had filet mignon. We both agreed that all of the courses were delicious and perfect. Our complaint was with: 1. The hostess...she seemed to be in a very bad mood, and it appeared that we were bothering her when we arrived to let her know that we had a reservation. She continued to stand and walk around with a scowl. It was a bit of a damper on an otherwise pleasant atmosphere. 2. Soda from bar..first one wss a diet 7-up. It arrived tasting like pure carbonated water. I asked them to replace it with diet coke. Surprisingly it had the opposite problem. It wss syrupy without enough carbonation. This probably won't be a problem for most. I'm the odd one who likes soda with dinner! Partner had wine, and said it was very good and it was a generous serving for the price. The hostess is the only thing that kept me from giving them 5 stars. read more

My wife and I went here for dinner while on vacation and we both felt everything was excellent. I had the NY Strip Steak with Gorgonzola butter and my wife had the 10oz filet which I had the pleasure of finishing. Both steaks were prepared just as we ordered and were brought out in timely fashion. We both absolutely loved our respective steaks and would highly recommend both cuts to any prospective customers. The ambience was nice.service was fine, and the price was extremely reasonable. Definitely worth checking out if passing through Fish Creek read more

Bruce Alexander has been preparing meals for us for almost 30 years from back in the day when he first started out at the Hotel du Nord in Sister Bay. He has been at his current location in Fish Creek for decades now and has become a highly regarded culinary fixture in Door County. I applaud him for his extensive work with the local cultural institutions, but I also love eating here since his food is always prepared with consistently high quality. And did I mention the generous portions? Tonight I had the escargot, and I was overwhelmed with the generous serving of at least 10 escargot. I lost count... The butternut squash soup was delicious, and the specialty dish of the evening was Walleyed Pike tempura. Yum! The salads are always excellent, as are the drinks. Don't forget the ice cream drinks for dessert. In general, great wait staff and generous portions. You can't miss here. Happy dining! read more

10 year anniversary dinner, I could tell it was pretty busy just by pulling into the parking lot. Wait was an hour but we got lucky and got 2 seats at the bar right away. Full menu at the bar which was already a good sign. Elliot was our bartender and he was fantastic. We got the Oyster Rockefeller (incredible and my wife isn't a huge fan of oysters but she loved it) I got a soup which was great (don't remember what the name was but it has spinach in it ... really good) We always try to order two things we like so we can share. We'r not picky eaters but we know good steaks and good seafood. My wife got the 10oz fillet and I got the stuffed shrimp. Before I even get into those, the side potato and vegetable you get with both meals are by far the best sides I've had in a long time. The veggies were made with sesame oil which is a total game changer... the au gratin potato's were made with I think smoked cheddar or something like that .. I'm not a au gratin potato guy(love my double baked with all the trimmings) but these were incredible. More about those later. We got the garlic butter add on the fillet. There's nothing worse then an overcooked fillet, we love it rare and it came rare .. not medium rare. It literally melted in your mouth. The stuffed shrimp were also fantastic. A lot of taste and cooked to perfection.... maybe a little bit more sauce on the plate to dip them in. That's about the only thing I can say that's remotely negative ? If that's even negative. We had a nice bottle of wine with dinner and a drink after. Elliot once again didn't disappoint and also gave us a few pointers on hiking and other things that we were interested in. Thanks to everyone there for making it a great anniversary dinner. read more
