I did a bit of poking around on Yelp, and found that Chris Handyman served the Ann Arbor area and had very high review ratings. So I sent him a service request via Yelp yesterday afternoon, and within a half-hour had a text message reply from him. We exchanged a couple of text messages discussing what needed to be done, and settled on a time today between 11am and 1pm. He arrived at about 11:10am this morning, and immediately set to work. He looked at all of the problems, and drew up a list of the parts needed. He then made a quick trip to pick up those parts and was back within 20 minutes or so. He then began dealing with the problems one by one. The biggest and most complicated problem was the kitchen sink drain pipe, on which the clean-out cap had become badly corroded, leaking all over the basement floor. Chris was very diligent in cleaning up the mess, removing the corrosion and what was left of the old cap, then installing and sealing the new cap. While finishing up that task, he also spotted a smaller problem developing near the top of the same drain pipe, and found a way to seal that up as well. After that task was done, he then installed and tested new float valves and flapper valves on all three of the toilets. Moreover, he was done by 1pm, just as he had estimated. I was impressed with how thorough and diligent Chris was in everything he did, all the while being polite, yet personable. I can now see why he had such high ratings. We will doubtless be calling on him again.

It took about a week to get on the schedule because of them being swamped with work. Very professional and they did a great job. The DTE electrician was also pleasantly surprised to see that he would not have to terminate any wiring and all he had to do was plug in the meter. Brian asked to call his office to set it up. I asked RPP office manager to set up the inspection because they wanted coi etc.. not once has anyone mentioned a cost thru this process. Brain sent me a $430 invoice that says call an ac company to troubleshoot a board. first a $430 invoice for what? no repairs were done, seems like the technician that was sent didnt know how to troubleshoot heaters. So I guess the tech took longer trying to troubleshoot then expected because his lack of knowledge of that system and Brian is kind enough to pass that cost to me. Look at the end of the day, even if they didnt provide me a price for the inspection up front, This company charged me $430 to do nothing. A fair invoice would have been maybe $195 for time and gas but again $430!!! This company ripped me off and I have a recording of Brian threating me, telling me hes in my driveway!!! Our contracts call for all removed material to be retained by the owner, us, not them. Well, therein lies the problem. Many electricians view all wire that they touch as theirs. But guess what, they didn't buy it, we the owners did. For some reason AF Smith's electricians just can't stop themselves from taking any wire removed as demolition. Even though it is clearly explained in our contract. It seems that the management of AF Smith is afraid to make these thugs not steal our wire.
