I have always found it difficult to get someone over for small projects, add an outlet, fix a light etc but Vedder came over twice the same day that i called If you ask for the waiting list it looks like you can get service the same day or the next day. We've used Vedder for several small jobs so when we needed our outdated fuse box replaced with a modern panel we did not hesitate to call them. This job, did not go entirely smoothly. Our old electric service had a bunch of things that were done in outdated or just plain wrong ways. Every Vedder employee we talked to was professional and courteous while explaining what was happening and what they would need to do to get the job finished. A one day job turned into a day and a half and yet Vedder stood by their original estimate and worked until the job was done and done right. It's easy for a company to provide good customer service when a job goes entirely right with no hiccups or unexpected findings; it's when things go wrong that a company really has an opportunity to shine and Vedder shines bright! We recently had Rob out to install a fan / light on our high 14 foot ceiling. It was an involved job and Rob was an expert. He was friendly, efficient and even installed a second one for us in our sunroom, which probably messed up his day. They look great and work perfectly though he explained there is only so much he can do if it comes out of the box not working correctly. Humble besides, a great guy who knows exactly what he is doing. Installed the wall controls and explained them to us. Professional, this is my go to electrical contractor for sure. So a year later, we had Rob again for more work. He added a plug in our basement and changed our sunroom fan from using a remote to being controlled from our switches. Luckily I had two switches put in and though the fan was not set up to be done that way he figured out a way and now we can control the light with a switch and even control the fan speed by the other switch with a device he installed . They arrived early, did a tidy job, were careful with my house and furniture, and put everything back in place. That being said, I called two times and got no response and finally on the third call got a message saying they aren't taking any new customers they are so booked up. I had Matt from Vedder in to diagnose & fix an outlet that was showing a variety of flaky readings on my circuit tester; he found and fixed a loose ground connection, and showed me what to look for in the future. Quick response, too --- I called Thursday morning, and they had someone by Thursday afternoon. Projects are always completed professionally, promptly, and within scope, and Bob goes the extra mile to consult / talk straight with you about what you need. They aren't the cheapest, but they're the cheapest of the contractors that I'd want to do the job, which is a big distinction. They said the next scheduled appointment was in September(!) but that they would put me on a "fill-in" list. After a bunch of power surges fried the mother board in my fridge, I decided to protect the whole house with a surge suppressor. Having had one installed in another home a few years back in another state, I was surprised that (a) the device was a little over $300 and (b) it was installed a day after calling in a little under an hour. In my previous home, the suppressor was a large box which came between the power lines in and my panel box. Well, this device sits outside the panel box and must be replaced if it fries with a surge. Upside, the price. I paid over 1K for the first suppressor which never needed replacement. At 300 and change, not bad. Service, as always with Vedder, was friendly and upbeat. read more

Trying to get an estimate from these people was a BRUTAL experience. We were trying to get an estimate for rewiring our house and they showed up 30 minutes before the appointment, blew past my wife as she walked into the house FIVE MINUTES EARLY to meet him. The guy said he was done and then it took them 3 days to get us our estimate. I called on Day 1 and 2 to inquire when we would get the estimate and they said by close of business both times. Both lies. Finally, my realtor called and they said "we'll get to it, its a free estimate anyways so whats the hurry." Unreal. Will never recommend them or use them ever. read more

I called Vedder Electric for an estimate for a few different projects. I received my estimate and almost choked on my coffee! $350 to change out a ceiling fan? That I provide? My neighbor (Who unfortunately passed away) installed the last one in about 10 min. The quote to replace my bathroom fan was $800!!! really? If I need a new vent add $175...you know the one's they sell @ Lowe's for $25? Ludicrous to say the least. To show comparison, A2 electric told me he would change out the fan for $50. I'm super disappointed as I was really looking forward to spending my money on a local place who came highly recommended by friends. The total quote for replacing 2 fans and recessed lighting in 2 bedrooms,kitchen and hall was $6,000. WOW Vedder just WOW either the guy thought I was stupid or rich or both and I'm neither. I was very happy with my service from Vedder Electric. Bob was actually early by about 10-15 minutes for the initial inspection for my quote; when was the last time ANYONE was early for something like that? The only small rub was that I had to wait a few days to get the quote, and I ended up calling to get it when it was supposed to be emailed to me, but not the world's biggest deal. Matt, the fellow who does the scheduling/front office work, was polite and professional, very helpful. We ended up getting our old fuse box replaced with a new breaker panel; long story short, we got a new electric clothes dryer instead of a gas one, and the power wasn't hooked up to that outlet. When our original install date needed to be pushed back a couple of days, Bob came out and swapped out a fuse 'box'/unit to make sure our dryer worked until we got the whole job done, without any additional cost to us. Now, your mileage may vary, as the saying goes, but I thought this was a very courteous way to make sure we weren't excessively inconvenienced. The installation guys were similarly 10-15 minutes early for the job a couple of days ago, very professional, and done MUCH quicker than anticipated. Again, your mileage may vary depending on your circumstances, but I'd have no problem recommending Vedder to my friends/family. read more

We had Vedder run electrical outlets throughout our unfinished basement. We had called about a half dozen contractors and only 3 returned our calls. Vedder came out within a couple of days to do a walk through and provide a detailed estimate. We have a woodworking shop in part of the basement and the rep seemed to understand what we were trying to do. He made several suggestions on placement and what type of outlets to run. The other contractors that came through to give estimates did not seem to have the same level knowledge and customer service. We received the detailed quote within a couple of days and it was right in line with what we expected. Rob was our installer and he spent two days running the wiring and provided additional advice. I love that Vedder is a local company, They did quality work in a timely manner. I received a bill for service that matched the estimate. However, I received a second bill weeks later with an additional charge just shy of $400. I was very confused and called Vedder immediately. The person I was speaking with said that fees ran higher than they expected due to the complexity of the work. Personally, I am not sure how the job was more complex than they expected, since that explanation wasn't given to me. I paid Vedder the additional $$, but I was pretty upset about it. If the work was going to cost more, I should have been informed before the work took place. Additionally, I chose Vedder over another company that was slightly more expensive. I could have used the other company and saved money (i.e., if the second company was true to their estimate). Overall, I think Vedder does a great job. I would be inclined to use them again if I could be reassured that the price estimate was something I could rely on. read more
