Not impressed. After waiting an hour to sit down because they were under staffed. Poor service no drink refills for a table of 8, food was cold and not good. When the server finally came to the table and asked how our food was we told her about the problems she did not seem to care. We hoped the manager would come over but never did. The waitress brought out the bill and said that they feel bad so took $2.00 off our bill. $2.00 off for bad service and bad food.....slap in the face. Will not return. read more

Three stars on atmosphere and decor only. Service was poor for a Sunday afternoon with few patrons. We sat at the bar and went unnoticed for a significant amount of time, only to be told by the bar manager that someone else would be with us shortly. Because we didn't receive a drink menu, we asked the bar server several questions about the specialty beers, for example "What's the LL?" Answer: "Liquid Lunch." No other information, which would have been helpful given the name of the place and an unfamiliar selection. We didn't press for a food menu after that. Cool place aesthetically, that's about it. Would give it another try with hopefully another server that was more responsive. read more

I really did not want to go to this place after looking at the menu and noticing it was literally all german food. Just not a fan personally. We had a group of nine and it took literally forever to be seated. Totally understandable but it was like pretty late, but it was a Saturday night. They definitely do not have an adequate waiting area. There was like two small weird wooden benches and we would not have all fit in anyways so we basically just stood in front of the door and pretty much blocked the entry and host stand. We did ask once about how much longer they thought it would be and I know its super hard to tell sometimes but the host said well we're kind of just waiting on this one group that has been here for 2.5 hours... so we're like does that mean you think they'll be done soon or that they'll be here another 2 hours? Either way we did finally get seated. I got the pretzel appetizer. It was fine. Definitely much smaller than other pub pretzels I have had for the same price. Beer cheese and mustard was excellent. Husband had burger and fries. Fries were suuuuuper good and their ranch was great as well. My friend next to me had a chicken pot pie that looked super weird. The crust looked good but I had a bite of the inside filling and it might as well have been freezer chicken pot pie. Overall food is fine but nothing great esp for the prices and hassle to get seated if you have a large party. read more

We're that couple and family that places like this should covet....the competition to Bismarck Ale Works does....we come prepared to spend $75.00 plus every time we show up and tip well. That said they're closed on Monday?? Seriously I get it that everyone needs a day off. This is a brewery/restaurant though. After the new buzz wears off and this place hasn't done a sufficient enough job capturing the crowd that comes back a 3rd time and beyond don't blame anyone other then yourselves. The owners seem to treat this place like some kind of hobby. They certainly don't seem to know how to run a restaurant or even understand how a restaurant is run in order to be a profit center. Suggestion to other entrepreneurs.....if brewing your own beer is your thing support the business model of Bismarck Ale Works....they'll drive customers your way. read more

Quickly becoming my favorite spot in Bismarck. Great service. Cute environment not noisy. The menu is very good. Pretty much traditional sports bar fare, but with quirky twists. The first time there I had a burger. (Always a good test). Big juicy came with fries or various substitutes, I choose the green salad, which was crisp and filled with a variety of things. They have a zillion beers on tap. Three from their in house brewery upstairs (they'll tell you the whole story when you show up.) Put it this way; they have beers for all tastes. On my next visit I had the beef pot pie. Too good to be true. A super flaky crust over a stout based meat and veg filling. Super yummy. read more

Today I gave Ale Works it's 3rd and final chance. The first time I was there it was brand new. Service was slow but understandable since they were new. The server had zero knowledge of the beer that they sold, but the food was good. The second time I was there, the service was TERRIBLE. Super slow. They were sold out of all of their specialty food (I.e. spaetzle, rice) and the portions were small. Today we decided to give it one more try. When we arrived we were told that there would be a 15-20 minute wait. I looked around and saw at least two open tables, so we thought it wouldn't take too long. As we waited we saw 4 more tables come open and be cleaned...we were still not sat. Multiple other people came in and were told the same wait even though now there were visibly more empty tables than full tables. After 25 minutes we left. read more

We had an excellent dinner last weekend. New restaurant bugs are fully shaken out. Place was buzzing with customers at 7, a few folks waiting for tables so we went to the bar. Ordered the bruschetta, jager spatzle and the goulash. Appetizer served within 5 min. Entrees served within 15 min. Pretty dang good for a busy dinner service. All were very tasty, fresh and unique. Welcome this New Zealand chef to North Dakota! Your jager spatzle with the pork cutlet was out of this world delicious. Would consider rotating a weekly specials menu to keep the menu fresh. We've been here a couple of different times. However, this will probably be our last time. We were seating immediately and served right away. After, our drink orders along with food orders were extremely delayed. But to top it off, one of our six orders was a previous special with a backup if that wasn't available. Wait staff came back to tell us it wasn't available, but within minutes served the "owners" the same order! Guess the patrons aren't as important as the owners. :( I must say, our wait staff was very pleasant just overly busy! read more

A strange set up, Bismarck Ale Works does not offer all of the beers that are brewed onsite under the Bismarck Brewing company name. The beers that you can enjoy in the bar as you wait for a table are not offered once you have your table. The wait for our table of four was around 45-50 minutes, which was the estimated time that the Hostess gave us when we arrived. Enjoyed a nice Bismarck Brewing oatmeal stout during our wait. Our waitress was very pleasant and was prompt throughout our meal. The paper menus were near impossible to read, hopefully they have better menus on order or at least a better printer. The pricing for the food seemed to be a little overpriced for the food that you received. The plating and presentation of the plates was not what you would expect for the prices, but they were pretty busy that night. The food was decent. We might go there again after they have been opened a little while longer and get some of the kinks worked out. read more

I went in the first few weeks of opening, which is why I'm giving them 3 stars versus 2. There s a 45 minute wait, but room up at the bar. We ordered cheese curds as an app and a couple of beers. The prices for the beers were not on the menu which is not very transparent and they ended up being about a dollar more than elsewhere. The cheesecurds looked like they were out of the freezer and a very small portion for the money. We then ordered the truffle spatzle, which took about an hour and was also an extremely small portion. It was decent but I wouldn't order it again. We also ordered the French onion soup which our server forgot to enter so it came nearly an hour later. The service was very slow (to be expected to an extent upon opening). Overall the environment of the building was beautiful and a fun place to be, the food had left a lot to be imagined at the cost. I'll be trying it again after the grand opening to see if there have been improvements. read more

Stopped by to eat lunch n have a beer. We waited for someone to set us, about 15 minutes, I could have seen the 15 minute wait if it was busy but from what I could she only one table. Two gals waked by but didn't even help us or ask if we needed help. This would have been our second visit, our first visit was back a month ago and I rate that as a 2 it took over an hour for our food and never ask if we would like another drink. Service on that visit maybe could have been justified because they had not been open that long So we thought we give them another try but I don't thing we will after waiting for 15 minutes on the second visit to be helped, so third visited is out. read more

Great, very well-rounded beer selection with something for everyone, plus a full bar. Staff was polite & friendly. I had the reuben per the bartender's recommendation, and really enjoyed it! I am usually hesitant with ruebens because they make me feel just sluggish and greasy afterwards, but this was a good, meaty sandwich and a hearty meal! The building is pretty cool too; it reminds me of a scaled down version of Surly in Minneapolis. I liked it, and think they'll be very successful! read more

THEN I ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel...they were out, so I ordered the Sauerbraten, which had the same sides of spaetzle and red cabbage. Twenty minutes later I get the news, they have Sauerbraten, but no spaetzle or red cabbage! This is 2 hours in from our arrival, and I was just wanting to leave, I told our waiter that I'd just share my sister's brats, because I figured that was the closest I was gonna get to German food that night. He put in an order of brats for me too. Our food came, and, the brats were grilled/glorified hot dogs, and my Bro-in-law's sandwich was only slightly better than from Arby's, but WAY more expensive. Our waiter was Charles; not only was he helpful, more than apologetic for the lack of actual food, and just a super FUN person! But no matter how great the caliber of the wait staff might be (A+ for Charles) it will never make up for 3 hours, 4 hot dogs and a sandwich, and some beers. It all cost us 80+ dollars (including tip), and time we'll never get back for a bad Saturday night. We won't be back. read more

I'm giving two stars for the environment. It's a beautiful restaurant and the servers are very nice people. The food on the other hand was super disappointing for the price. Some dishes were too salty, some dishes were too small and some were just plain awful. We paid $40.00 for a bottle of wine that retails for $10.00. I don't appreciate paying for underwhelming food and being jipped for cheap wine. Needs work. read more

Great taps, drinks, and the food has always been great here! Service is impeccable and consistently well done. New favorite place for me, will take people here because they take feedback and service seriously. We had a party of 8. We were quickly seated. The staff were courteous, friendly, and attentive. The food was delicious and portions were just right. They have a good menu selection of food and drink. The only con we had was that the background music was very loud, which suits the young crowd well, but was too loud for retirees! We'll go back for the food; hope they tone down the music. read more
