We had our rehearsal dinner here and it was a perfect setting. The staff were great, the food was excellent, the overall experience was everything we hoped for. My husband and I have been to Alcove one other time for brunch and had a great time. Now I have had dinner here too and can highly recommend the place. Alcove is all that AND a bag of chips. It took me a few months to finally make it to MadTree's newest concept in OTR - but let me tell you, I'm already planning to return ASAP! It was super simple to make a weeknight reservation for myself and a friend through OpenTable - but even though it was a Tuesday night, this place was poppin'! We requested a table outside, and were delighted that they were able to honor that. Right upon entering, you're struck with how beautifully bright everything is! The space is inviting and modern, with curated touches of greenery everywhere you look. It's also HUGE - you could definitely host an awesome party here. Now, I was already a big fan of MadTree's brews before dining at Alcove, so you know I started my meal with a glass of their "Shade" blackberry tart ale. It was crisp and refreshing - exactly what you want for dinner with a gal pal. We wanted to sample as much of the menu as possible - so we ordered several items to share! We started with their Charcuterie Board - which was a nice spread of meats and cheeses, paired with some delicious jam and housemade crackers. We also couldn't resist an order of their Loaded Redskins ... and that may have been my favorite bite of the night. These are crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and topped with just the right amount of smoky bacon. For entrees, we split an order of the Meatballs and the Salmon Cakes. Both were phenomenal, and I honestly can't say which I liked more. The Salmon Cakes had a light and not-at-all fishy flavor to them, while the Meatballs were more hearty and savory. The service was also great - sadly I don't remember the name of our waitress, but she was bubbly and attentive throughout our meal. I already know that I need to come back for brunch soon ... that Loaded Potato Hash is calling my name. I first ate here in 2021 and got the biscuits and gravy. The gravy had chunks of what seemed like fat and was very off-putting texture wise. The biscuits were lukewarm. Service was decent. Just tried it again today and service was shoddy at best. We were greeted quickly but then the waiter literally never came back and we had to flag down another waitress to take our order half an hour later. My boyfriend got the quiche (was decent, hash browns were dry and unseasoned) and I got the short rib hash (way too many potatoes but the short rib was good). No one came to refill our waters which had a scent of ocean/fish, very off-putting. Then we had to flag down the waitress again to get our bill. The ambiance is quite nice, however. I had the Paloma which was a bit too tart but refreshing. My sister had sangria. I love the changing menus, variety. My sister had the chicken pot pie, I had the steak and frites. My sister liked her dish. My food was warm at best, my steak was sliced and I really don't like that. It was a bit tough. We shared the mac and cheese with sausage. My friend and I were feeling a brewery or something similar this weekend, but were in the OTR area already, so we decided to check out Alcove. I'm super glad we went! We got there late afternoon on a Saturday, and still were able to be seated right away (outside too, which we were hoping for)! The space was lovely. There was plenty of natural light coming indoors, and the outdoor patio was great with fun string lights above your head, and lots of plants by the tables. We were able to seat ourselves wherever we wanted, so we picked a table right in the center to take in the place. My friend got the Mule cocktail and I opted for the hard apple cider. Both were really good! My cider wasn't too sweet, which I liked. I especially enjoyed my friend's Mule--I think the white cranberry simple syrup that's added to it is what makes it really stand out. We also ordered the charcuterie board to split. I always love a good charcuterie board, and this one surely did not disappoint. The jam that came with it was phenomenal. Our server was also great. He was really attentive and checked on us regularly. My friend and I met up before a play at the Know, both of us very excited to check them out. She, a vegetarian, got the breakfast potatoes, and I got the quiche of the day and a green salad. Her potatoes were flavorful, and she was happy. My quiche was okay, nothing special at all. The chorizo was nearly non-existent in actual pieces, just the greasy taste that came through intermittently. The small salad that accompanied it was okay, but not nearly as good as the salad I ordered. That was the only thing I'd go back for. Well that and the amazing space! Seriously, I need to find out their plant person's tricks to keeping ferns alive. Anyhoo! Back to the food. We started off our brunch with a coffee for me and a Bloody Mary for him. Y'all. The Bloody Mary is in my top 3 in the city so far and even made my Yelp The Best Bloody Marys in Cincinnati list. That's not easy to do, folks. Not easy to do at all, but this delicious variation is a winner and won a spot on my exclusive list. He got biscuits and gravy with a scrambled egg, and I ended up with the Loaded Potato Hash with egg and extra pickled red onion because I love me some pickled red onions. It was really good. The potatoes were sautéed with onions and carrots (as far as I could tell) and had a wee bit of sweetness as well, and was covered in cheese , which balanced out that sweetness i mentioned. I'll definitely be back and look forward to checking out a couple more things on the menu. And if you're wondering if you should give it a try, the answer is yes. I have been wanting to try Alcove for a while now. We made reservations and when we arrived, the restaurant was extremely noisy. We ordered some appetizers that were pretty good, but we were very disappointed in our entrées. They were very small and very pricey. I ordered the risotto with short rib and the meat was so fatty that I was not even able to eat it. The meal was tasteless and I honestly should have sent it back but just figured we would cut our losses. My husband said that his meal was not good either and again, a very small portion. I've been waiting for this place to open for months now and it's finally ready! The main entrance is off Vine, but there's another side entrance on 14th, not sure when that entrance is unlocked. We came on a Tuesday evening and had no problem getting a seat. Unfortunately we had already eaten so we'll have to come back to try the food. There's plenty of Madtree classics on draft, homemade cocktails, wines and also the new Sway canned cocktails that were just released. There's the main dining room with a sort of lounge vibe, plush sofas and chairs, easy lighting. There's also the back bar room which has more high tops and seems like the group gathering space (there's a tv.) There's also special event space upstairs. We didn't have a reservation and even though they were extremely busy we were seated almost immediately. They have a wonderful list of specialty cocktails. Lucy, our server, was knowledgeable and attentive. Our food was served all at the same time - 5 of us - warm - and it was all really good! There wasn't a thing we wouldn't get again. Fried cauliflower- the sauce on the side gives it a great added taste. I had to get more. Fries on the side - the garlic aioli type of sauce was really good. We got extra! We had an amazing experience at Alcove by Madtree. I booked a large table to accommodate a special engagement lunch for some friends and the time we had there couldn't have been more special and fun. The team at Alcove went out of their way to make sure the occasion was special by including so many special touches, offering to decorate the table with the decor I brought, and simply just taking care of our every need and want! Our server, Sean, was a rockstar as well and was the perfect example of ever present when we needed him but never over-present so that we felt rushed. They offer Madtree's fabulous beer selection, plus wines and cocktails, and a full menu featuring local Ohio meat and fish. I have been here many times with many different people, and every time they leave feeling that this is one of the best restaurant experiences they have ever had, as do I. The staff is always extremely kind and accommodating for different events and allergies. And the chefs are just as nice. No matter how busy the restaurant is, we are never waiting too long for our food, and our weight staff checks in multiple times and clears the table at what seems to be perfect moments. The food is always delicious, and due to the small menu, the chef team is able to have mastery over the dishes which always come out delicious. I recommend the bread and cheeseboard which has whipped butter as well as pickled vegetables to help clear your pallet for another delicious piece of brie. The restaurant itself is extremely aesthetic, both inside outside and in the in between green room. It is picture, and is a lovely splash of green on a brick coated Vine Street. The service was fantastic, but the food was hit or miss at my table of 3. The crispy tofu was delicious, perfectly crisp and seasoned. Another person at my table ordered the pork belly and they were very disappointed. Pork was tough to cut and dry. The third person ordered the burger which was nothing special. Overpriced for a burger. We were disappointed that two of the main dishes were unavailable, cutting the choices down dramatically. We came for Brunch and immediately loved the vibe of the restaurant -- lots of plants, natural light, and even live music! Super cute decor all around. We ordered iced coffees, but were given the vietnamese iced coffee instead, which was super sweet. Once we asked for the plain iced coffee it was better for those of us who don't usually put sugar in our coffee. The service was otherwise okay, but just very slow for us to order and to get our food. We had the carrots, which were very tasty and I'd recommend them! Sadly, they were out of the Quiche, which is what everyone in our group was planning to order. They were also out of cinnamon rolls and the oats/chia seed pudding. Not good if you have a vegan friend with you!! Our poor vegan friend's only option was a vegetable plate that wasn't on the menu because they were also out of their only vegan option, the oats. Our entrees were just okay -- the salad with chicken was fairly simple and the chicken was just plain rotisserie chicken. The potato hash was good, not great.
