We came in for dinner with our family with what we thought was a 6pm reservation. There was some kind of mix up and the reservation wasn't in your system. I went to Alcove last night for the first time and loved it!! It is a very cute environment with a lot of plants and indoor and outdoor seating options and bars. We shared a couple small plates and the fish entree and loved all of the food but the portions are a little small. I think this is me and my boyfriends new favorite spot! I think the experience you have at Alcove depends entirely on what you're looking for. Atmosphere is fantastic, location is good and central and the beer is madtree, so delicious! I went for brunch within their first week or two and was very unimpressed by the food- I got the fried chicken sliders and there was no seasoning on it, but worse, the heat in the fryer must have been too low, so the skin on the chicken was soft and chewy rather than crispy. This meant they came out an unappetizing light tan color. The biscuits they came on were standard and I enjoyed the charcuterie. I hope they were just working out the kinks? I'd try again, just because it's really a beautiful space, but maybe it's just better for happy hour? I certainly wouldn't take my parents or any in town guest here for more than a drink! But that being said, gorgeous spot for a good beer!!! read more

Madtree recently combined and transformed a 19tg century architectural gem on the north, the former Kaze OTR on the south, and an open space in the middle to make a dining experience as delicious as it is beautiful. The tofu entree was well accompanied (and vegan), although it would have benefited my marinating before cooking the tofu. We also had the catch of the day, which was exquisitely prepared. Came tonight with a large group for a birthday. Ambiance = great. Perfect venue for a large group! Service = great! Waiter, host, etc were all knowledgeable and friendly. Drinks = ok, maybe I just didn't get the right one for me. Food = poor :( I got the Caesar with salmon. I assumed it would be a grilled/baked salmon like any other I've ever eaten at a restaurant. But it was fried? And it did not indicate that on the menu. It was really gross unfortunately and I could not finish more than two bites. I'm really sorry to say that. But you should not fry your salmon :( I honestly can't stop thinking about it. Hopefully you can act on this feedback! read more

Made reservations for 7:30 and did not get a table until 8:15. We were able to get drinks at the bar and once we were sat down, service was very good and on top of it. Food and drinks came out very quickly. 10/10 butter on the bread plate. The tofu banh mi was not as flavorful as I wanted it to be and it was a little salty for me. read more

Went to dinner with the wifey for date night Saturday night to escape the ire of our almost 3 year old toddler. We split the meatballs, breadboard, short rib risotto, and chicken sliders with fries. We each had a cocktail. The cocktails were tasty. Food came out cold (tasted like it had been sitting at the window for 10-15 mins), which I guess happens from time to time, but nevertheless it was underwhelming. The risotto was gluey and just...not good. My NYC Italian roots know how risotto should taste. This one was just poorly executed IMHO. Maybe it was an off night. It can happen...Even on a Saturday night, I guess. The real kicker though was that when we got home, my wife threw up 4x and was still nauseous 24h later. Pretty sure she was poisoned last night... I myself was feeling ill shortly after but never vomited. The atmosphere is charming. I'll give them that. It's just OK. It's disappointing. The cocktails are not good. There is no craft cocktail culture here. The restaurant only stocks big producer, bog standard spirits like Tanqueray Gin. No local spirits, like New Riff Wild Gin. It's hard to believe The Alcove would not pay more attention to the highest margin sector of their business. The food is unexciting. It's quite surprising that local produce is not the focus. One would imagine that the charcuterie platters would be all about the tri-state area. One would be wrong. I put together better charcuterie selections by strolling a few blocks up the street into Findlay Market and consulting with the local purveyors of cheeses and meats and accoutrements. I am not a value for money diner. I don't think about price. But The Alcove forced me to reflect upon the fact that it costs four times as much to eat at The Alcove than it does to eat at The Eagle; and The Eagle is, indisputably, a much richer culinary experience. If you enjoy Madtree beer, stop at the bar and have a pint. Otherwise... there are so many, many better choices just steps away. read more

Alcove is such a great place! We've been before and stopped by this afternoon to check out the new menu. Hubby had the cod sandwich and I had the fried chicken sandwich. Both were great! We also split an order of the Mac and Cheese and omg yummy. We also tried out some new drinks including the pear martini, scratch mule, and spiced manhattan. All three were great and the manhattan was our favorite. It was super busy prior to the FC game but we got a spot on the patio with no waiting. We snagged reservations for Tuesday on their opening what an absolutely delightful and delicious evening. The staff was wonderful. The food was amazing. What a wonderful vibe. The greenery is beautiful. We started with some cocktails and shared the fried cauliflower, wagyu meatballs, the pimento cheese stuffed red potatoes and the Fried tofu entree, which literally was one of the best vegetarian meals I have had in the city. We also ordered the seasonal fruit crisp which was the perfect ending. We will be back. Another favorite for sure. You won't be disappointed. read more

Now, the cocktails were unique and tasty , appetizer's were plentiful and great mix of options. The place is lively and they offer several dining spots in the old 1873 building. Parking next door and also about a block south at the Mercer. Just left the 1p Drag Brunch that was ran incredibly!! The show was sooo fun!!! We were a group of 9 , 3 of us has seen many drag shows. This one for a Sunday afternoon of fun was amazingly fun!! Food and service Spot on !!! The guy bartender in the green house with the pony tail was the biggest JERK of all time of Cincinnati!! He was terrible!!! We want to bring a group in August, now shopping other venues to avoid that terrible bartender!!! Will never ever advise anyone to visit Alcove because of him. RUDE!! This place was stupendous. The building is a redone establishment of the former "boss" of Cincinnati in the 1870s. They were short staffed the day we came in but the servers were on it. Great service despite the lack of staff. The food was to die for. We had a trout spread which was more delightful than it sounds. The chicken sliders were moist and flavorful. There was a carrot dish with a sour cream type side that was tantalizing and unique. I had the regular garden salad which had little pepitas in it to give it a lovely crunch. And the beers...so many tasty local beers. The 1873 lager was my go to. I highly recommend stopping in! read more

First off this place is vibrant, big, a tad loud but overall pretty awesome place. We had a reservation so there was no wait. Our waiter was nice and knowledgeable. Overall the food was very good. Everyone enjoyed what they had! I will warn you, the appetizers are "small bites". Do not order one expecting to have a few of them and share with your table. We had the potato skins (delicious) and the Thai chicken (also delicious). But I will tell you, the potato skins were red potatoes, which the menu does state . I was expecting TGI Fridays potato skins. The Thai chicken was fantastic as well, very tender. For dinner we had the Pork Shank, Chicken Sliders and Beet Salad. Seriously, everything was good. I tried the margarita, the blueberry bourbon smash (bc I'm a bourbon lover) and the strawberry lemonade smash. All on draft but made fresh daily. The taste was phenomenal, you can tell fresh Ingredients are used which I appreciate. I tried a few small plates, chicken bits with broccolini and loaded potato skins and let me tell you... The plant wall is gorgeous but when it hangs onto your table and you have little bugs flying all around you all meal it loses its appeal. We were seated right behind the hostess and got to hear her tell many people of a large company outing they were in the loft which is down the block and turn left in the pouring rain. I can't believe you can't get to it from the building. All these people in work clothes and soaking wet. As far as food We shared six plates between my husband and I - they were hit or miss. Loved the redskin potatoes , ginger chicken bites and meatballs. The cheese tray was not my favorite. The cauliflower we liked but the yogurt sauce wasn't the best. The brat was good but barely warm. The pimento cheese grits were very dry and not very flavorful. When sharing food I never understand why they don't provide serving silverware or give you new plates between dishes. The drinks were the most disappointing. His Malbec was much more dry then Malbecs usually are. My sangria had too much ice, no fruit and little flavor. His second drink was a blackberry cocktail and was not impressive. We might stop by again but a very average place on a street with some real powerhouse restaurants. read more

The restaurant is quite attractive, and the service was generally very good (although my waitress tried to remove my plate without asking me and before I was done). I ordered the short rib with wild mushroom risotto. The short rib was good, but the risotto was, I thought, bland. I did not detect any mushroom taste in it. I'd like to give this place five stars. I have always been such a big fan of Madtree and anything they do, so it is no surprise that this restaurant quickly won me over! I went to Alcove for brunch on a Sunday morning. The interior is just so well done. It feels trendy and natural and beautiful and is just refreshing. We sat inside near the front of the restaurant and I ordered a Bloody Mary followed by a Shade beer - both were amazing. I ordered the Eckerlin's Goetta Sandwich for food and I am pretty sure it was the best damn breakfast sandwich I have ever had. My only feedback was our server wasn't great. Drinks were slow and he was awkward, but sometimes that happens. The food and drinks were awesome and that won me over! read more
