Decided to give Alchemy a try for brunch this morning with my (adult) son. Walking in, the atmosphere is nice - liked the decor. After a few minutes we were seated, and before too long a sleepy bored girl named Bethany took our drink orders (I only know her name because it's on the receipt). I ordered ice water, while my son ordered orange juice. Got my water, minus the ice.. but at least it was cold. My son got a tiny glass of juice for which we were charged $5. I didn't realize at the time the price of the dang juice. I decided I wanted biscuits and sausage gravy while my son got a belgian waffle. We both asked for a side of bacon. At least 15 minutes later (after not having been asked if we needed more water or anything) we got our food. Presentation was nice. My biscuits looked big and fluffy, and the gravy had several chunks of sausage. My son's two waffles looked decent. We each got 3 nice strips of thick cut bacon that looked to be cooked perfectly. I took my first bite of my biscuits and gravy, and was confused.... the gravy was sweet, and I have no idea what it was flavored with, but I certainly didn't taste any sausage. The biscuit was ok, but the gravy - nope. I took a few more bites, and it was just plain weird. I've never had sweet sausage gravy, and I assumed the chunks in it were sausage, but I sure couldn't taste even a hit of sausage. I was really disappointed. I was going to eat it though, because I was hungry - but I left most of a biscuit because there wasn't nearly enough gravy.
My son's waffles were okay he said. Nothing special about them although he did run out of syrup pretty quickly. They put the syrup on the waffles and didn't provide any on the side. Our waitress was mostly absent, and as I said earlier in the review, appeared very bored and sleepy. Not the least bit attentive.
Finally, after sitting there waiting for maybe 10 minutes after finishing, and with my wallet and credit card sitting in plain view, she sauntered over with our receipt. So, for crummy service, 2 average waffles, 2 biscuits with not enough gravy, an orange juice and 2 sides of bacon: a whopping $32.78 before tip! Holy sh!t. They charged us $4.50 for each 3-piece side of bacon, $5 for the OJ, biscuits and gravy $7, and a whopping $9 for the belgian waffle. For those prices, I'd expect much better service, and much much better food. I've had better service and food at CK's Coffee Shop. Needless to say, we won't be back. read more
