My friend has a tree nut allergy. Is it worth taking her here? Will it change my experience of the food?

I don't think so

Is it smoky in the restaurant from all the food being smoked? Would a person with asthma of COPD have difficulty breathing well?

No it's not smoky in the restaurant at all

Does Albi have valet parking?

No, but there is street parking and nearby public parking garages

Are there any added benefits/perks to sitting at the Hearth Table? Or is it just that you are paying for the kitchen seating?

There are some extras I believe in addition to having awesome seats - truffles shaved over a dip, drink pairing for a course, not sure what else. maybe some dishes not included on the dining room sofra

Is there a dress code?

No, but it is an upper-scale restaurant

Do you have outdoor seating as well?

Yes, when i went we we ate outside in a enclosed tent cause it was chilly out.

Do they use halal meat or offer halal meat options?

No they do not

Do they have an outdoor seating set up for the winter?

Yes they have a covered / enclosed patio but they also had individual greenhouses last year so I would check to see if it's back this year.

We ordered mushroom kapnista, Halloumi pide, zaatar pide, htipiti and everything was so delicious. I'm not sure if I enjoyed the combination of dates and mushrooms together but really loved the smoky mushroom by itself. I was also very impressed with the Zaatar pide, it was cheesy and delicious. For desert we ordered greek yogurt with apricot and it was probably the best thing we tried here. The ambience is classy and they have ample of seating space. The overall meal didn't cost us as much as I thought it was, the prices were fairly reasonable!

I'm getting better at this! LOL Service was great from the moment we walked in. The ambiance at Zaytinya is exactly what you want from a José Andrés restaurant: light‑filled, contemporary, and buzzing with life. High ceilings, blue‑and‑white tones, and a chic Mediterranean aesthetic make it feel like a getaway in the middle of D.C. It's vibrant, social, and perfect for lingering over mezze crafted under Chef José Andrés' vision. I met another Yelp foodie here so that was a real treat! I love my Yelpies! Let's get into it with one sentence.... Come try this place out! It's taken me months to post this because this girl eats out way too much. For my fellow Yelpers if you haven't already tried, you're missing out! Thank me later! Cheers!

It was literally in the alley, and was giving Covid setup. Definitely would not recommend the outdoor area to anyone. There was no music, the decor was fine but again, looked very subpar and you could tell everyone else that arrived and sat outside after us had the same thoughts. Now to the food. I will say all of it was good, but for the price? I could find another Middle Eastern adjacent restaurant in DC for less money. It was a little outrageous in my opinion. We did choose the tawle experience. The dips with good, and came with endless flatbread. But it was interesting how some of the portions were huge and then others felt like they were skimping. We got huge portions of pickled vegetables and a giant salad, but then when it came to the shrimp kabobs we ordered, we got 5 pieces of shrimp. I will say the steak portion we chose we large, but then again for dessert, it was just a half mason jar size of a chocolate mousse to split...It was just interesting. Several of the staff knew it was our anniversary and they could've given maybe an additional dessert or a glass of champagne but nothing. Again for a restaurant of this caliber, you would just expect more. I say all of this to say, we did have a gift card that covered most of our $300+ meal. But if I were going without that, I would've been even more disappointed. I know people have raved about this place for years, but the original chefs have changed, and I'm understanding more why they've lost their Michelin star. It was good/fine but was far from exceptional.

We enjoyed every dish we ordered. The dining room is relatively small and quite noisy. The rooftop dining area is casual and airy. We ordered 5 for 2 people and could with done 4. They are still all pretty small for the price. labneh with crab had 0 flavor should have skipped it Hummus with mushroom was good but need all the items on the plate at once to get full effect. The bread that comes with the dips....omg the bread. It was probably the best part of the dips to be honest. The falafal was very good, would def repeat. An order is 3 but we added a 4th one The potato frites thing was omg probably the best item we had. Crunchy outside, soft fluffy inside but the green sauce was *chefs kiss* amazing I almost licked it from the bowl. Last item was the lamb fried rice...it was good a lot of flavors with the lamb, corn and apricots. Would I order again honestly not sure. I'd prob get a coupe cocktails the falafal and potato things and leave overly satisfied. We went with the cheese dessert bc he described it similar to a cheesecake which cheesecake it was NOT. It was ok. My dinner date loved it tho.

My cocktail of choice was the Khavyar, which featured gin, Portan cucumber, dill, and lemon. Refreshing, crisp, and a great start to the afternoon. For food, I tried the Hummus + Pita, Za'atar Pide, and Tawook Burger. I sat at the bar, where Isabel was gracious, welcoming, and attentive throughout my visit. There was a nice crowd, pleasant music, and a relaxed energy. I tried the Hummus + Pita, Za'atar Pide, and Tawook Burger. The standout for me was definitely the Za'atar Pide. Made with Palestinian za'atar, creamy feta, and labneh, it was flavorful, savory, creamy, and easily my favorite dish of the afternoon. I would order it again without hesitation. The Hummus + Pita was a great start, and the Tawook Burger with two breaded chicken breasts, cheese, onion, mesclun, tomato, and house-made sauce on brioche was hearty and satisfying. Good food. Pleasant atmosphere. Attentive service. And much love for that Za'atar Pide! I'll be back for it.

The Batata Hara: fried potatoes with garlic were dangerously good. Overpowering with the garlic but in the absolute best way possible. The Karahab fried brussels sprouts and the Tawook chicken breast burger were both delicious and well executed. The only miss for me personally was the ribeye gyro but that's less about Ala and more about me finally confirming that gyros and I are just not meant to be. The food gets a solid 5 stars. The seating situation however deserves a conversation. Yelpers were directed to either the bar or outside with no other options offered. The weather cooperated and it wasn't a bad experience outdoors but when the hostess specifically stated that Yelpers sit at the bar or outside, that landed differently. The restaurant appeared beautiful from what I could see and assuming the inside was as lovely as it looked, that felt like a quiet form of segregation that the restaurant should probably revisit. Guests are guests regardless of how they found you. Our waiter was attentive and never forgot about us which is always appreciated. Overall a great experience with one note worth addressing. I'd return but hopefully at the main table next time.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills reading these reviews. This was very bad in almost every regard…read more It's worth taking it piece by piece. 1. The falafel The falafel is tiny, about the circumference of a quarter. You would forgive the misleading deal you get on six of them if it tasted decent. But it doesn't. The coriander and parsley overwhelm the flavor. The inside is dry and spongey. The outside is stale. It tastes nothing like falafel at all. 2. The beef and lamb "shawarma" Note the quotation marks. This is not shawarma, which is whole meat sliced off a spit. This is a gyro, a ground and blended meat blend. The gyro tasted fine, but I ordered shawarma and this is not shawarma. 3. The chicken shawarma This, at least, was shawarma. But that is the only positive thing to say. It was dry and flavorless. It tasted like it had been sliced off the pit and sitting in a warmer for a while. It tasted nothing like you would want shawarma to taste. No garlic taste, no paprika, no lemon, no moisture from a yogurt marinade--just unseasoned, dry chicken, spinning on a hot spit. 4. The sauces We tried the garlic sauce, hot sauce, and tahini (all on the side). The hot sauce and tahini were borderline inedible. The hot sauce tasted like someone lightly peppered Hunt's Tomato sauce and the Tahini had the texture of water. The garlic sauce was okay. The people were nice, so it feels bad writing this. But the reviews on this place are an abomination. I am going to check the profile of each person that rated this five stars and avoid any restaurant they recommend. My Palestinian grandmother would have a heart attack if she was served this food. I wish I took more pictures, but the falafel are the only thing I snapped because they were cartoonishly small and I thought that was funny.

Everything was delicious, no weak dish in the bunch. The meatballs and falafel especially stood out, but honestly the whole table was clean by the end. We also tried the Fig Old Fashioned and the Hafizz Spritz. The Fig Old Fashioned was the standout of the night: bourbon sweetened with fig cordial and warmed with Angostura bitters. Perfectly balanced, not too sweet, and dangerously easy to drink. The Hafizz Spritz was refreshing too, cucumber, lime, and mint with gin, prosecco rosé, and elderflower, but the Fig Old Fashioned is the one I'm already thinking about ordering again. Upon entry into Joon's, you immediately see the cuteness and chicness of the establishment. Joon also immediately exudes warmth and intimacy. We started our taste journey off with the Lamb & Pistachio Meatballs which were absolutely delectable. Then, we had the Grilled Seasonal Vegetable Hummus paired with their delicious Naan, which was very hard to stop eating. For my main dish, I decided to go with one of the dishes recommended by the waitress, which was the Lamb Shoulder Pave. Tasting my dish, I easily recognized why it was recommended. I also took the opportunity to sample some of my friend's Chelow Rice, which I wasn't a fan of. It was too crunchy for my liking. For dessert, we shared the Persian Love Cake, which was exactly what we needed to end the night. Not too sweet, just simply enjoyable. As it pertains to parking, there is plenty of parking with the option for valet. Needless to say, I'm glad I have a go to Persian restaurant nearby for any future cravings.
