They scheduled him for cataract surgery. Told him to be at the hospital at 7am for the procedure. Waited 1.75hrs before they even called him back then started the surgery 1 hr late. Took him to a follow up that same afternoon after the surgery. 3:30pm appt time. We ended up seeing Dr Neale just before 5pm!! And when my dad mentioned he was not happy about the wait time Dr Neale acted like we were the ones being rude and he literally talked so fast through all of like 3 minutes of follow up time. So we waited an hour and a half there to have about 3 minutes with the Dr acted like it was rude of us to say something about that. Today in total between both appointments we spent over 3 hours just waiting for them. I can understand running late some of the time but consistently making patients wait for hours is terrible business practice. I don't think they would like their time being treated that way.

Saw Dr. Neale for cataract surgery. I asked a staff member about Dr. Neale and was told that Dr…read more Neale bragged about being able to do a cataract surgery in 17 minutes or less. Hmmm. But I wasn't going to judge based upon one comment. I met Dr. Neale briefly for the first time two days before the surgery. He spent the entire time trying to up sell me to a lens that cost $5000 dollars more than the basic and was not insurance covered. He reminded me of a used car salesman; "Do you ever go to Hawaii? A trip to Hawaii costs more than this. Aren't your eyes worth as much as a trip to Hawaii?" I cancelled the surgery and went to Dr. Haines at the Eye Center. He found that part of my vision problems in that eye involved a membrane that had grown over (not uncommon). Cataract surgery would do no good unless that was removed first. I didn't ask, but he also told me that any lens beyond the basic was not appropriate for me. Amazing. The membrane was removed and both cataracts replaced. Turned out Great!

Plenty of Red Flags…read more I am currently having a problem with Pacific Clear Vision Institute that has led me to file complaints with The Oregon Department of Justice, The Oregon Medical Board and The Oregon Division of Financial Regulation. Below is a summary of my situation. Please contact me at brian.m.litton@gmail.com if you've had a similar experience: 1. Billing Malpractice Delayed Invoicing: There was a significant delay in billing; surgeries performed in early February I was't billed until April 30th. I had no knowledge of an outstanding balance until I received a phone call from billing on April 15th. No bill in the mail, just a phone call asking me if I was aware of my outstanding balance of $4,000. Contradictory Records: My original receipts, from payments I made on the date of surgeries, explicitly stated I was paying for "Toric Lenses" and showed a $0 running balance. Recharacterization of Payments: Two months after the fact, the company claimed the money I paid was actually for "facility fees" and not the lenses, directly contradicting the written descriptions on my receipts. 2. Advertising and Misrepresentation Price Switching: The company originally quoted $3,000 per eye for the *entire procedure* before insurance. They later changed this to $3,000 per *upgraded lens* only, significantly increasing the total cost. False Insurance Claims: They explicitly told us that insurance would cover most of the surgery but later claimed the $3,000 for each lens when they knew from the beginning that lenses are not covered by insurance. Omission of Fees: When offering the North Bend clinic as a convenience to save us from driving to Eugene, they failed to disclose that choosing this location triggered an additional "facility fee." I have two payments I made in North Bend that say they are for Toric Lens but when I asked, they told me, "no those payments are a facility fee". 3. Good Faith Estimate (GFE) Violations Failure to Provide Timely Notice: I did not receive a GFE until April 16th, nearly two months after both surgeries (February 5th and 19th) were already completed. The GFE was dated for January and when I told them I did not receive in January, they told me they sent to me but I did not open the email. Deceptive Documentation: The company backdated the April GFE to January to make it appear as though they had provided it before the surgeries. Mathematical Errors: The numbers provided on the GFE are inconsistent and do not add up correctly. Bad Faith Delivery: The company admitted they knew I had not opened the email containing the GFE, yet they still argued that I had "received" it, bypassing the requirement for informed financial consent. Conclusion of Impact The cumulative effect of these actions was the denial of informed consent. Had the company been transparent about the true costs via a timely and accurate GFE, my wife and I would never have agreed to the surgeries. By withholding this information and providing contradictory billing statements, the company prevented us from making a rational financial decision or canceling the second surgery.

When I explained my symptoms to the wonderful receptionist she quickly spoke to Dr. Walker who had me come in immediately. When I arrived I felt like royalty. The entire staff came to my assistance quickly as a fine tuned team addressing my problem, getting me on the road to quick recovery. Later I was finally able to find outside care for my situation, however, Portland or California was the only places I could find treatment. Dr. Beardsly had setup his office in Eugene and has extended offices and his services to satellites offices nearer to Grants Pass. I feel like I get just what I need. The service is good and yet the office is busy. I needed additional special care for one thing and they were helpful getting me to where I needed to go for treatment.

I called him out on his inconsistencies he had said to me previously and he completely lost control, yelled at me and walked out of the exam room and then charged for a long visit that took less than 5 minutes with no exam or medical treatment. I had a previous retina detachment that wasn't completely sealed and had formed a bubble. Dr. Beardsley said that we'll watch it and if it needs to be repaired, I'll be able to have the same laser procedure that I had before to repair it, but it wasn't a condition where I would go blind. We watched it and it got a little bigger and he said I had to have a surgery in a surgical center with anesthesia. When I questioned him about what he had said before, he immediately got angry and said I was going to go blind if I didn't have the surgery. I fully intended on having the problem fixed, but I didn't want an invasive surgery that before he said I wouldn't need and wanted to know why it couldn't be repaired the way he originally said. He refused to answer my questions and then angrily yelled at me and walked out of the exam room. I have had a number of retina detachments and with the first one I saw Dr. Beardsley. He said I had to immediately have surgery in a hospital. (At that time he operated in a hospital instead of a surgical center.) I was from out of town and simply couldn't do it immediately for a number of reasons and he argued with me that I had to or go blind. I said I just couldn't do it right then the next day. Only then did he say that he could put a bubble in my eye and the retina repaired a week later in the office with a laser procedure. I then was able to have the procedure done in my home town by another doctor without having to travel and having an invasive surgery that is much more likely to have complications, especially with other eye surgery I've had. When I mentioned this interaction, he yelled, "I never put a bubble in your eye." Well, he did but didn't remember and insisted he hadn't. If he looks back at his records, he will see he was dead wrong. I subsequently saw another retina specialist that repaired the retina in office with the laser procedure that I had had before in office without invasive surgery, anesthesia or having to travel 260 miles round trip to a surgical center. I suspect Dr. Beardsley missed out on a big pay day by not being able to perform that surgery that he insisted on and maybe that is why he got so angry. He also missed out on the first time I saw him.

I don't normally leave such low ratings; however, I feel compelled to make sure people are aware of…read morethe risks of possible subpar care if they use the services of Dr. Ofner and Dr. Fleming--I mention Dr. Fleming as in recent years, Dr. Ofner has been transferring more of his patients to Dr. Fleming. This has proven disastrous for some senior citizen patients, including my mother who ended up with a botched glaucoma surgery in one eye, and another senior citizen who had been through two glaucoma surgeries with Dr. Fleming--who completely neglected to tell her that she had wet macular degeneration. (By the time this woman moved to a different doctor, that new doctor had the unfortunate task of breaking the news to her that she had advanced wet macular degeneration, something that Drs. Ofner and Fleming declined to tell her.) Both doctors seem overly interested in surgeries, and it's been my personal experience that anything unrelated to surgery or eye glasses is effectively not of any interest. In my case, I have profound dry eye, and when I finally went in to Dr. Ofner seeking some relief for this, I was using $150+ per month for over the counter drops, and was desperate for a solution. They did no meaningful diagnosis or analysis and simply told me to keep using those eye drops and put a warm wet washcloth over my eyes in the morning. In passing conversations with other friends, I discovered that there actually is a treatment for dry eye, but apparently Dr. Ofner didn't want to be bothered. Instead I went to see Dr. Dunks at Family Vision Center and she did a full examination, including an analysis that would help identify exactly how long it took for my tears to evaporate--as it turned out, the second I blinked and opened my eyes, my tears would evaporate. It was no wonder my eyes felt so horrible--but the fact that Dr. Ofner's office made no attempt to diagnose any portion of what was going wrong was simply baffling. She laid out several different options, and because I am a big scaredy cat, I didn't want to go with ductal plugs (which I hear work amazingly well). Instead I use a prescription eye drop called Restasis; this is not a cheap medication (the insurance copay is quite high), but it absolutely changed my life. Dr. Dunks had laid out some other progressively more "intense" possible treatments, including networking with a doctor in Portland regarding a special "eyelid massage" machine that can help with dry eye. The fact that she put time into diagnosis and too my discomfort seriously enough to do additional research was a night and day difference in my experience with Dr. Ofner's practice. For your own benefit, I would avoid Dr. Ofner's practice. If you have any loved ones who are senior citizens who are already seeing Dr. Ofner or Dr. Fleming, I would get them out of there as quickly as you can, and connect them to another doctor right away.
