We passed on this one night regrettably to go to another choice further down into the tourist mess in Lisbon. Walked right by and kids were racing around outside screaming and parents taking over the doorway smoking. It was too much hectic for us that night. Our mistake. Second try we went in and it was a large very nicely decorated place with a Gelateria, coffee, and dessert bar with staff in the front and the big traditional restaurant behind. Got a table immediately. Staff was very friendly and helpful and they used a sort of tag team service model that can sometimes be problematic but they were very efficient with it!! Decorations of stored typical Italian grocery packages, really nice huge open kitchen which was fun to watch their cooks operate and wonderful tables and decor. Not high end but quality colorful surroundings. So back to the children. The place is very popular with local families that appear relatively middle class and some individuals and couples. Even a couple of one top tables eating there all including a little bit of tourists like us. This is not in the big mess of tourist joints but on the Avenue a block behind the Restoradores strip of very high end shopping and easy to miss if you aren't panting attention. We started with the biggest "appetizer" we've ever ordered! It could have easily been our meal with a huge salad. It's called the Buratta Contadina and comes on a huge plate with big triangles of oven baked pizza bread slices, a huge ball of Buratta (soft portion on bottom and firm on top) in the middle with cherry tomato and grilled zucchini slices and I side gravy boat of some fantastic pesto sauce. I'm not a huge fan of pesto but this was wonderful in that it was mild yet flavorful and an ample serving. If you can eat it with your other food DO NOT miss this dish! Then she had the GAMBERONI GRIGLIA and I got the Carbonara so we shared our dishes. Her grilled prawns were whole in the shell with heads and a slightly spicy sauce finish with a lot of juices. She loved sucking the heads and juice!! I don't adore seafood but these were really large and tasty! About 19 euros and worth it. My carbonara was moderate sized and very good. Likely one of the best Carbonara that we've had outside of Italy and better than my home version. This is a very favorite dish of our family and we are very picky about it. She got a pane-cotta dessert that was absolutely Devine. They have an absolutely fantastic Italian dessert menu and they all look amazing!! If you want just some dessert and coffee this place is a great choice too. Another thing we saw here is that they seem to have great pizzas and their signature dish is this pasta fresco that they do table side for you. They have a cart with a huge wheel of Parmesan on top made into a ball on the top and a young server rolls it over to your table with fresh hot pasta in a big pan brought over the Pass from the kitchen and he dumps that on top of the wheel bowl, adds grated Parmesan , seasoning and cream and begins to toss and mix it all up, very much like one makes a carbonara. Then another smaller pan from the Pass is poured over each individual plated serving and given to the diner with a finish of cheese. This sauce is a really good looking chunky mushroom and gravy! WOW No wonder this is their specialty! One Portuguese family of 6 with grandpa, parents and kids were in a large elevated booth and an elegant table side ss wine bucket stand ordered the same dish for every one of them! That's how good I think this is. Many other diners from one tops to this family ordered this and if we go again that's what we will try for sure. My wife says when we sat down that this looked like an Italian American type cuisine and she was slightly correct. As we have seen the typical dining in Italy with Primi, Secondi, etc type of menus and authentic Italian food, this place was very much like a really good version of Italian/American restaurants with quality food and deserts similar to what's found in San Francisco or east coast cities with a large Italian population. This was my first sit down meal in Portugal and I was happy with our choice! They had a nice outdoor patio area that we chose to sit in. The waiter was nice and though the menu was big we were able to order fairly quick because we were just looking for lighter bites. 2 of us each got the Bruschetta Toscana which is basically a sampler plate with 4 types of "bruschettas". Our family visited Lisbon for the first time in March and found this gem of a restaurant. The staff here is very friendly and helpful, and their food selection is top-notch. Every dish we ordered was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is relaxed, and there is a fantastic drink menu to choose from. We saw single diners as well as large groups. I live in Lisbon and still hadn't been here. I had a Dr appointment down the street and they highly recommended this restaurant afterwards. I brought my after care products with me, had dinner and accidentally left them on the bench after having a fantastic meal. Once I got home, I panicked knowing I forgot them, called but they didn't answer. I drove back there immediately and once I found someone not too busy to help, they took me to their office and there was my package!! This could have easily gone missing forever but they kept it safe. I'm so grateful not only for that, but because their food is incredible and friendly service. FYI - website menu prices are inaccurate and no longer reflect current (higher) prices, which can be found on the menu outside/inside of the restaurant. I did take out for (2) pizzas and they were ready in a little less than 5 minutes which IMO is blazing fast. The place was bustling upon arrival, which makes sense given the ~5k Google reviews. I went in w low expectations, which is probably why we found the pizza to be pretty decent for a last minute spot around our hotel. They use a generous amt of cheese, if that's your thing. read more

We were very pleased with our meal. We began with a salad nizzi ( think nicoise) that was full of fresh greens, hard boiled eggs, tuna, and olives. You add balsamic vinegar and olive oil to taste with good results. Then my wife enjoyed prawns and shellfish over home made pasta, while I got a so called pizza. It was very good unless you are looking for a traditional circular pizza with mostly red sauce and cheese. Great service. Great ambiance. Server was kind & answered any questions we had regarding the menu. Specially I am looking for gluten free options due to dietary needs. I found on a bottom part of the menu that there is gluten free dough and gluten free pasta for an additional 2€ per plate. Reading the reviews, I went for the Pasta Alla Forma. Our server was just the kindest, she came to ask if gluten was intolerance or an allergy. Then proceeded to inform that the topping on the pasta plate which included cheese, mushrooms, and truffle oil contained gluten but if we would like it could be made gluten free, which we did. It was delicious. Unfortunately they do not have a gluten free bread option for any appetizers or plates that include it. Also ordered the Semifreddo for dessert. If you're a chocolate lover. We asked the server for his recommendations and he was QUICK to show us and talk about the special (Pasta Alla Forma: Spaghetti made in a Grana Padano form, with Porcini Mushrooms, White Truffle Olive Oil and Ham) They made the pasta in a giant cheese wheel it was delicious! Location was perfect, close to downtown, and cute outdoor seating option. There was a ton of indoor seating and it was a great restaurant if you're traveling with one other person or a larger group. Some seating outdoors and large restaurant inside. The menu is pretty epic. We were extremely happy diners with a sear outside. Three of us had the fried mozzarella app and a shrimp app that we would get again in a minute! In addition the entrees were wonderful. See pics. Our hotel recommended Al Garage. My meal was delicious but the 4/5 unfortunately was due to my husband's pasta and my daughter's pizza being mediocre. The staff was friendly, though we had 3 different waiters because no one spoke English (which was fine!). Wine selection and food selection was excellent... many choices!!! I wanted a fettuccine Alfredo type dish and although it specifically was not on the menu, our waitress was able to find something comparable. The decor is simple but cute and it's as very busy, which is a good sign! We had an enjoyable time and the people watching was fun as well. Great little find on the odd side of town but near a number of international brand hotels. Nice patio in the daytime and surprisingly large dining space on the inside.
