Current times seem to be hurting them and the Latino community in general so please support these guys. Buy some extra tacos for some friends and tip extra well. Al Estilo Michoacan has been my husband's favorite Mexican food in Beaverton sine it was a food truck in parking lot. It's the most recent restaurant in a location that has changed cuisines several times, but Al Estilo Michoacan is the longest lasting one there and deservedly so. The interior is not impressive. The space is clean, but old and has several store fronts in it. There's a shop selling waterless cookware in the space as well. I don't remember what the other store fronts are. We tend to think of the space as the Star Ferry after the neon sign above the counter. We like it best when the owner is there. He is friendly, personable and remembers my husband when we visit. Our last visit was hubby's birthday because he wanted tacos for his birthday. Hubby loves the al pastor tacos there, but everything we've ever tried has been great, even the day I just wanted beans and tortillas. Since we were doing tacos, I had a couple of chicken tacos and a couple of carnitas ones, no cilantro. With handmade tortillas, these stuffed tacos were filling and made a great dinner. I really wish there was a four point five for this place. First time ordering and I ordered the Family style dinner for 50 bucks and I could not be more pleased. Beef chicken and pork all freshly ran over the grill, with beans, rice, grilled veggies , fresh veggies, home made corn tortillas and even napkins and two different sauces. All was very hot and still moist- the refried beans were as good as my own and for 50 dollars it is a good value as no matter what kind of meat (or even none at all) for your picky kids they have you covered. Unless of course you want ground beef in which case why order from here? My Son is especially picky and if it isn't pretty close to a certain chain's food he looks kind of funny at it, but these beans will win him over. I am just finishing up my second plate and it was just as delicious as the first- top notch eats served family style and for a reasonable price. If you can live without all the fancy separate packaging these are a pretty good deal. Very nice to have a Family-style option as I run a Foster Care home and this lets everyone choose what they like. Scratch that. Less than 24 hours go by and the cheapening begins. HALF the frijoles from the last order shoved into a too-small container equals a MESS and a reduced score. Found this place by accident while we were hungry waiting for a friend that lives in the area. These are by far the best carnitas tacos I have ever had. Great flavor, juicy meat and the perfect corn tortilla. Plus they have a huge speakers that I can only assume they use for awesome late night festivities. Wow... I've probably had about 10k tacos in my life al pastor, birria and even the carne asada blew me away. So good... it's difficult to make carne asada stand out, but it does here. 3 tacos w rice and beans (rice and beans are a must) plus jalapeños fritos. Maybe the best in Portland. read more

I have eaten this location numerous times over 5 years or so. Somewhat nondescript low profile eatery. Simple decor of tables and chairs. Nothing fancy here. Kitchen is in full view from dining area. Kitchen and order desk has always been manned by what appears to be elderly husband and wife (?). Both have always treated me very politely and courteously. Kitchen has always appeared very clean and orderly. Menu is simple Mexican home cooking. Mama cooks delicious food. Meats are nicely seasoned and tender. Taco's are a favorite of mine. Recommend the lengua (beef tongue) or pork carnitas. I often have their hearty chicken soup. Tortillas are handmade there. Has amazing food truck type burritos and tacos. The burrito is 10$ but it's way bigger and has more meat than a normal everything burrito. I also like that they didn't add just 3 diced onion chips, there was a fair amount of onions as well. Very authentic Mexican food read more

I was really craving some mexican food and I've always wanted to check this place out since I drive by this plaza so often. I'm so glad my boyfriend and I did because the food was amazing! The employee served us our food and even included multiple hot sauce bottles to choose from. The place didn't look like much but it's also this kind of "hole in the wall" vibe that have bomb food and the best people working there. Looks can be deceiving. I should know, I just found an authentic restaurant and I live less than a mile away! It's been almost undercover quietly tucked in between a super mercado and some kind of nutritional supplement store. But, as soon as you walk in and see and smell the steaming pots of food you know everything bus going to be alright. Then you are greeted cheerfully by the patron. Full disclosure: I can't give 5 stars because, parking is shared by other businesses so, not great and decor is clean but quite "rustic" so, don't expect much but, for fans of soccer, there is plenty of seating and a big screen TV that is pre-tuned to fútbol soccer. Tortillas are handmade, the salsa is good and even though the menu is handwritten, it is dense with choices of authentic Mexican food like "guisados" and even a few surprises like Salvadorean pupusas and Cuban sandwiches. If you like dishes that are hard to find (at least in Oregon) this is your spot. Since tacos are emblematic of authenticity, they are a great way to gauge a restaurant's worth and they did not disappoint! Meh. Food was prepared to order, ingredients provided as add-ins such as cilantro and limes were day old, wilted and mostly stems in the cilantro. SO got menudo, it was red, had no hominy, but did come with a large knuckle bone (true to some region's style of menudo). Unfortunately the menudo was greasy, with overcooked tripe (slimy without honeycomb tripe, which is a superior type of tripe). I ordered chilaquiles. They were well spiced, flavorful, but made with tortilla chips and sauce with eggs on top...essentially "wet breakfast nachos". This was not great, but was presented with all of the elements that one would expect for traditional chilaquiles. Homemade corn tortillas were delightful- which is what bumps this review up to three stars. The atmosphere was downright straight out of Mexico, complete with a large stage for a band/DJ for parties/quinceañeras. Nothing to write home about unless you want to have a Mexican style event. Service was efficient, but not exactly friendly. We will not return. We prefer to dine, not just scarf mediocre food. read more

This establishment obviously is a small family run restaurant. Not much fancy nor even proper decor. Stuff scattered everywhere but it did not deter anyone who enjoy authentic Mexican food from coming. It's situated at a block building so it might not be visible from the street. The food is really good. Fairly authentic. So if you're here for the food, then the decor is not important. Our search is over! Finally found the BEST Mexican Restaurant in the Portland area and it's 1.4 miles from home! We have eaten Mexican in NE, SE, SW, Gresham and Mt Hood and found this gem within walking distance. Although, doubt we could have walked home after eating the whole thing: Harachi, a Carnitas Taco, and Enchiladas Verdes with extra beans. Delicious from the first bite to the last. Mild green sauce was exceptional, too. Who cares about the decor when the food is so good? This place is a hidden secret tucked away in small shopping center with easy parking. Just what our family was looking for delicious tacos made with good flavor . My wife and I were incredibly impressed with the flavor and quality of the food. My wife got the mixed fajitas and I got Machaca.
