Really not sure what's going on here. We've seen it come up and avoided due to the low star rating but after dining it, it seems undeserved. My friend took me here after a night of drinking (we're old, we started early). There was a really large party dining in but we got seated and served immediately. The servers were nice, fast and helpful. We ordered two cazuelas (it's meant for sharing, you've been warned) and two asada plates. The salsa was delicious and spicy, the chips fresh, and the food amazing. All of that was $100 w tip. And trust me when I say they could easily charge $40 for these cazuelas. Don't come here. Terrible service, hostile environment, and overall bad quality. I have been celiac since I was 3 and asked the waiter if he had any gluten-free recommendations. He told me very loud and annoyed that "I have never heard of gluten in my life" and "don't ask Mexican people what gluten is". I was stunned. I didn't even know what to say so I just awkwardly smiled at him. The entire time we were there we had to ask for everything. Napkins, water, our food, and so on. The little service we got was rude and hostile. Also when the waiter came to take our order he said "hi what would you like" and then immediately looked over to the table next to us and joined their conversation. I laughed bc it genuinely didn't feel real. To top everything off, when we got the check we were charged $108 when all we got were two of the 3 taco dishes, a margarita, and horchata. I could hardly leave the restaurant as I thought of how delicious the meal was, it left me with a feeling of euphoria. Ive been wanting fried fish some how I ended up here while on my way to another restaurant and I do not regret any moment of it. I literally swallowed the bowl of chips and salsa....THE SALSA HAD ME READY TO THROW MY WIG AT THE COOK.. it was flavorful The images of colonial Mexico reminded me of "Like Water for Chocolate" leaving me overwhelmed with so much emotions. We've missed coming here and it use to be one of our favorites to go to and bring friends. Went last week and was really disappointed. The food was okay, but one of the servers was horrible. The waiter had a condescending attitude when we asked about a couple of menu items, a bit arrogant which really soured the whole eating out experience. The other server came by our table who was kinder, checked in on our order and was attentive. Appreciated his service. Unfortunately, it's not worth going back, we'll find somewhere else to go. read more

Used to be my favorite restaurant before the management changed. All of the old staff that I remember have been changed out, they play generic pop songs on the radio instead of the authentic Mexican songs or mariachi music, and worst of all, they absolutely covered the walls in AI slop images of stereotypical Mexican scenes while simultaneously removing a bunch of the old gadgets and trinkets lying around that made the place look lively. This was our first (and last) time here, sorry to be harsh but if you have ever eaten at a really good Mexican restaurant then you would know the food here is, well NOT good. The only thing we liked were the chips and they didn't blow us away, just weren't awful like everything else was. The decor was interesting -cluttery and a bit gaudy-carpets were old and worn and half painted wall trim everywhere with a lot of shoddy looking electrical wiring everywhere and broken lighting that can't be to code. Should have been the red flag for us to leave but I've been some hole in the walls like this before that had excellent Mexican food so it isn't a show stopper altogether normally. I can overlook the decor and questionable wiring if the food blows me away. ;) The food was just bad. The Enchilada sauce was just plain bad- I've had better out of a can and that isn't saying anything. The rice was boring and tasted like it had been sitting for hours (i.e. not fresh), beans were bland and uneventful. Even the cheese was bad (how do you go wrong with cheese??)- maybe that cheap kind of cheese that takes awhile to melt because it is full of fillers? I don't know, but bad. And just smothered over everything on my plate so thick I had to scrape much of it off. And I love cheese! The lettuce tasted like it hadn't been washed first (meaning it had a dirt flavor to it- please wash lettuce before using!!) so that was immediately removed. The carne asada was dry, grisly, not a good flavor at all (virtually no flavor, cheapest meat). The waitress was not friendly, took our order and never saw her again. A kind older man delivered our food, gave us refills (soda and my water), asked us if we needed boxes (no thank you) and dropped the check off. Not sure what happened to the waitress but she never checked on us and disappeared altogether. The older man who helped us was the star of the show- kind and helpful man. So, $40 (oh yes, forgot to mention EXPENSIVE for the quality and no lunch menu or deals) later and with most of the food left on the table, we won't be back. Wish we had seen the reviews on yelp before we tried it (we saw that another website had higher reviews....not sure if the people posting have just never had real good Mexican food so don't have anything to compare it to or they have plants giving reviews but there is no way this place should get over 1 or 2 stars...IF you know what good Mexican food is!). read more

Visiting here from Chicago I came across this place in my visit I order some tacos to go. They are pretty authentic Mexican food. Tacos are a decent size and packed with meat. Looks like they just sprinkle a little onion and cilantro. My main complain is on the guacamole "side" for 6 bucks and no chips. Today is Saturday and the place was pretty packed. Seems alot of people are getting margaritas and steaming steak fajitas in the time I was waiting for the food to come out. I only notice 4-5 waiters for the whole place seems a little under staffed. The first time we ate here the food and service was amazing. Today, the host/server seemed annoyed we were in the building. We were provided one small dish of tortillas for two orders of fajitas. I could not taste any tequila in the margarita. The server kept his back to us the entire meal which made us feel very unwelcome. IF we go back, it would be only for the great food. Came here recently to order some food for out. The place had a good amount of crowd. It took a while to place an order in, but once ordered, the wait was not too bad. I ordered the Pollo A La Diabla - chicken with some spicy sauce. The packaging was nice as they tried to make sure the items didn't mix with each other too much. I love Mexican food. I could probably eat it everyday if I was given one option. And let it be known, I generally really like Pepitas. However, the other day I ordered a salad online. The website made it look like the salad came with all sorts of delicious toppings, so I was quite excited. When I opened it up after I picked up the order, I was sadly disappointed to find only shredded lettuce, tomatoes, orange slices (??) and grilled chicken. None of the salsa, guacamole, cheese, sour cream that I had anticipated. Long story short, be sure to specify exactly what you want on your salad - you'll be happier in the long run! Servers are nice and energetic, but some dont speak much english. Decor is very nice and colorful; makes you feel like you're in the jungle. The lighting is dark with nice lit up decorations such as christmas lights and lit up snowflakes (in february). Tables and chair have nice designs, and the booths are comfortable. Prices are reasonable: $5.75 for kids meals, $15-19 for adult meals. Food was served in a decent amount of time. Menu has a decent amount of options. I ordered mole poblano which was described as chocolate chicken. It was not sweet, but maybe that was how it was supposed to be. Complimentary spicy salsa and a big bowl of tortilla chips are given at the beginning of the meal. No complimentary mints or dessert. Meal portions are large. French fries taste saltless. Music is loud spanish radio. Takeout boxes are small. read more

In regard to some recent bad reviews, I can provide a bit of background. About a month ago, I arrived and parked next to a refrigeration repair truck. I noticed a Closed sign in the door and as I was contemplating what to do next, the technician came over and explained that Pepitas refrigerator had died and that they would be closed for a while and that I should call before coming. A week later my wife and I came for dinner and found they were using a very limited paper menu which did not have my usual entree. The food was in fact not up to par at the one week point. My guess is that they had to discard all of the contents of the refrigerator and were not yet back to normal. A few days ago, we went back and things seem to be fine. The salsa was still different and very hot but my normal entree, a chicken mole burrito, tasted fine. I didn't see the menu because they know our normal order. read more

This place is fantastic! I'm from Texas originally, so I'm a little judgy with Mexican food, and I do not tolerate a place that's going to fake the funk. I'll be coming back here, though. Jeez. You can tell when a place skimps on ingredients. This doesn't. Not one bit. Every bite was delicious. The margarita will love you back. The only way the vibe of this place could be more authentic was if Arkansas Dave Rutabagh bellied up to the bar next to a couple of vaqueros to order a tequila after escaping Pat Garrett. Went there today for a little R&R after a long day of breaking down on the side of the road. Took Triple A over three hours to get to me. Towering my car to a location in Hillsboro off Evergreen Avenue. Was quoted 550.00 just to fix my serpentine belt that busted. Paying for towing& Uber. I get to Pepittas and ask the female server if I can get a half order of ceviche. I asked 3 times and she said yes. When I received my bill, she charged me for a full order. 19.00 dollars for two tostadas of ceviche, already high way robbery. I asked her about my bill concerns and she denied our conversation about half orders. I told her I asked you 3 times and she said Yes. Really sucks that they couldn't admit to their mistakes and adjust my bill. Sad, they don't know customer financial burdens. Not sure if I will be returning. He says, no, that's chili Colorado. Then another time. And now my last time. That same dude charged me a tip the same amount as my whole bill. Totally tried to trick me. He said.
