Really great Middle Eastern food and great service. This is the ONLY place I've found that doesn't load up their Kufte with copious amounts of Allspice/Cinnamon (ugh what a tragedy) it's just lamb, garlic, onion, parsley, a bit of lemon...ah! Perfection. Good hummus and baba ganough, pilaf, kebabs of all sorts, and salads are good. The garlic sauce is more like a thin dressing, not the thick aioli paste seen at other eateries. Still, it is delicious on meats and won't destroy your breath to quite the extent that the usual garlic paste will *wink*. Great tabouli, the parsley wasn't mushed by a dull food processor blade and hardly any stems. Pickles weren't withered, but nice and fresh (love to nibble the hot-pink turnip pickles with dinner!) Bread comes to the table as needed, hot and crisp. Sort of a scary area, but there is plenty of parking in the private lot and directly outside so no need to walk far to reach the restaurant. read more

Yum. Definitely authentic middle eastern cuisine! Between 6 girls we shared a platter for two, portions are big. I wanted to try everything on the menu. I talked my friends into the raw kibbe. Which turned out pretty good. The baba ganoush tasted a little different than what I'm used too. Had that burnt taste that hard to swallow, everything I tried was great. read more

Best middle eastern food outside of the homeland. We had the Kibbeh Nayyeh which was amazing. The falafel and shawerma are also great.

I had a completely underwhelming experience here. I'm sort of baffled by the gushing reviews. I ordered the chicken shwarma dinner and it was the driest, most bland "shwarma" I've ever tasted. I'd expect what was in front of me to show up if I had ordered shwarma from Big Boy. I really should have taken a picture. Did I mention it was BLAND?! I swear they must have been sleeping in the kitchen? Forgot some spices?!?!? My man got the Kafta (beef) Entree and that was tasty. I just can't forgive them for the blandest driest dang shwarma I've ever had the displeasure of eating. Sheer disappointment!!! Go to Hamido. http://www.yelp.com/biz/hamido-dearborn It's the best Lebanese style Middle Eastern food I've had yet. To top it off, my Entree was 13 bucks. Not really worth it for some overcooked clucker. The service was nice and prompt and the place itself is what you'd expect from a middle eastern style ambiance. Maybe shwarma isn't their forte...but even then, they're a Middle Eastern restaurant...that's supposed to be what they DO. read more

It is a very know lebanese restaurant in dearborn, and i am glad i got to try it. Like the other lebanese restaurant on warren ave. The service, the portion, and the price deserve easily five stars, we ordered the tabouleh/fatoush/kibbeh appetizer platter, that thing was huge, we also ordered their yellow lentil soup, unlike the brown lentil soup my mom make, never less it was delicious. For the entree, we had the mixed grills (beef/lamb/chicken), plus the stuffed lamb with rice. Both were incredible. If i live there, i probably will never cook again. read more

I have finally found a food haven in MI and it is called Dearborn. Al-Ameer is one of the numerous eateries nestled in a highly concentrated Middle Eastern settlement, so you know it's the real deal. Because I like to eat as many things on the menu as possible, I convinced our party of four to order two "two-person" family platters, one Al-Ameer Maza which features mostly vegetarian appetizers, with the exception of chicken wings (random!) and one Al-Ameer platter which includes dolmas, kabobs, falafels, kebbie, and rice, among other items. Now I say "two-person" in quotation marks as our order, purportedly appropriate for four people if I've done the math correct, yielded a dining table overflowing with over a dozen tiny tasting plates after only the Maza platter arrived, and which after a few minutes miraculously also accommodated the giant tray that was the Al-Ameer platter. This all in addition to the lentil soup and complimentary unlimited pita bread at the beginning of the meal--nay, feast--was enough to burst the pants buttons. My favorite items of the night were the baba ghanoush, fattoush salad with crispy fried pita pieces, and the rice! They probably put some sort of buttery addition to make the rice extra scrumptious, because it was more rich-tasting than rice boiled with plain water. I could do without neon pink super salty complimentary pickled goods, but my friends discovered an unexpected affinity for it. Also, the garlic sauce that comes with meat is probably 99.99% pure garlic. This is a good thing. We giggled throughout the meal due to our apparent indecisiveness and gluttony, which I think amused our waiter (shout-out to Moe!). Maybe because it was at the end of the night ~10pm when we were there, but while we were packing up our many leftovers he asked us if we would like even more bread. The takeaway from this review is that you definitely get your money's worth at Al-Ameer, as we each paid ~$15 for multiple days' worth of food. With their generous portions of delicious authentic Middle Eastern food, both your wallet and taste buds will leave happy. read more

This is like an excellent Middle Eastern place with a great atmosphere. Here's my review. Decor : Al-Ameer is a straight forward place when it comes to decor. There are no fancy white linens and table cloths. Don't expect stainless steel napkin holders and etc. It's a family owned place that is still very clean and always ready to serve all its customers. Service: The host was very nice and sat me anywhere I needed. Definitely couldn't complain about the curteousness of the host and wait staff. Anything I needed the wait staff was there in a heart beat. Definitely no complaints here. Food: One of the BEST Middle Eastern places I have ever eaten at. One if their crown jewels is the fact thhrhrhey being out their own HOME made mini pita breads as appetizers with their creamy, rich hummus. Holy smoke...no one does that! I ordered the rice, kebabs and side salad and I ate everything. Amazing portions! Price: Definitely can't beat this especially compared to the portion of food. I had zero complaints about the price especially with the quality of service and quality and quantity of food. Overall experience: Definitely a must eat and I'm definitely going back. I highly recommend this place! read more

We sat at the table for at least five minutes and no one greeted us with water. Not only did nobody come over to greet us but a Cockroach just ran across the bench! We ran out and told the hostess who didn't seem surprised. I've had their food carry out before and it's delicious but nothing can excuse this very poor experience. read more

A great place for Arabic cuisine. Two of us split a massive shwarma platter which was flavorful and delicious. The shwarma was very soft and had a brisket like texture (I'm used to shwarma that's roasted and somewhat crispy) but it was still very good. The hummus was lovely, silky smooth and flavorful. The staff was quick, friendly and helpful. read more

This place has amazing shrawma! My friends and I couldn't stop eating the meat and chicken. It's so flavorful and juicy. We still think about how good the food is there. Best meat I've tried in Mediterranean cuisine. I thought the fattoush was ok, I've had better. Hummus was delicious, and garlic paste was ok too. Good food portions. Too bad it's so far away from where I live. Other wise, I'd go eat there more. read more

Delicious, great service, lived up to fantastic billing! Fried kibbe, so good and don't skip the smoky lovely baba ganjouj and the super crunchy yet creamy felafel. We got the kibbe, the appetizer sampler and the family platter 1, which says it serves 4-6. Could easily feed 8. More leftovers for us, hooray! read more

A novice's foray into Lebanese cuisine: Dearborn, MI is home to the largest proportion of Arab-Americans in the United States, many of which are of Lebanese decent. Here, you can find literally dozens upon dozens of Middle-Eastern restaurants. Al-Ameer's came highly recommended from a friend of mine, so I decided I'd give it a try... Before even entering the establishment, I was greeted outside by the flavorful aromas of spit-roasted meats pouring beyond the doors. We were greeted and promptly seated in a casual welcoming atmosphere. Our server, Moustafa, was friendly and helpful. We ordered fattousch (a salad of mixed greens, vegetables, and bits of toasted pita bread), and hummus with fresh pita bread as our appetizers. The salad was rather ordinary, but the hummus was particularly tasty (I've had hummus at many other places before - here was one of the best!). For my meal, I ordered a lamb shawarma (pita bread sandwich) which was also really good. I am not personally accustomed to eating lamb, but I really wanted to try something different. I was not disappointed - the lamb reminded me of a slightly "gamier" version of roast beef - very tasty. Another common section of the menu offered at many Middle Eastern restaurants around here are their "frozen raw juices" (smoothies). I ordered the Energizer, a strawberry-raspberry concoction that was very refreshing. All-in-all, Al-Ameers turned out to be a pleasant experience - the service was good, the food was light, fresh, and flavorful, and despite all that we ordered, the price wasn't staggering (in fact, it was very affordable). I certainly wouldn't mind visiting here again to try more of the offerings on their menu. read more

I always enjoy my ventures to Dearborn in search of delicious Middle Eastern food. I'm rarely disappointed and I always leave full and happy. My friend Madeeha and I headed off to Al- Ameer for some dinner and to fulfill our food cravings. Al- Ameer is one of Madeeha's favorite restaurants in Dearborn so I was excited to check it out. I have this real thing for shawarma so I ordered a platter with a mixture of beef and lamb. It was great- the meat had a great flavor like it had been marinaded and roasted for hours. Madeeha ordered a large fattoush salad and chicken kabobs. Before our meals arrived we munched on some fresh, fluffy yet crispy, pita bread with garlic sauce. I'm not sure how they managed it but the inside of the pita was fluffy and full of air like a pillow while the outside was slightly toasty. My meal also came with a soup. I ordered the lentil at the recommendation of the waitress and I wasn't disappointed. I asked for some sumac to go on top and it added just the right flavor. The meal was a great time with great food. If there was one thing I would skip next time it would be the "juice"/"smoothie". It wasn't bad but it wasn't that great either. I might just stick with a water or soda when I return. Al-Ameer has good service and good atmosphere. Stop in and I'm sure you won't regret it. read more

I picked this place for dinner based on the reviews here and I was not disappointed. I could tell there were a ton of regulars since they seemed to all get their orders right after sitting down. The lentil soup was great. Not too salty, not too bland, spot-on with the amount of seasoning. The hummus was very good. I love hummus and I left this place happy. read more

I know many say this restaurant is superior to many other middle eastern restaurants, but I found it to be average. Though I will say the chicken shawarma was moister than some of their competitors. And I personally like the milder, more liquid-y garlic sauce, but others in my party prefer the thicker, spicier stuff. Overall decor is also run of the mill and doesn't suggest an award-winning restaurant. read more

To me, this is the best Middle Eastern Restaurant. So La-shish was good but they became famous, the food quality wasn't there and certainly it was no longer the main goal for management ... hence according to rumors and amongst other things La Sish is now gone, in fact, VANISHED! Well I don't miss them... So back to Al-Ameer, this place has generous portions, food is good, staff could be more friendly. Out of the two locations, I think if you're not Arab American, best to stick w/ Dearborn Hgts, although I've been at the dearborn location more than the Heights one. BTW, I was told about this place by many Middle Eastern people, so believe me, food is good, prices are modest with a family ambiance. Parking is limited in both locations, the one in Dearborn is really tight, you can always park in the street. read more

I haven't been in years and recently went back and noticed they remodeled the inside. Very clean and super nice. I'm not too familiar with middle eastern cuisine, but lately I've been interested in exploring this cuisine more often. My first time here..and the word 'middle eastern' is so broad for me, just like 'Asian' encompasses 2/3 of the world's population (I think). So when in Deerborn, it'd be a crime not to get taste of it here. Of all the places in this part of town, I chose this one because my foodie idol Mr. Bourdain said it was good. Indeed he was right. Service was great, bathrooms were dirty..but food was just great. The owner asked us if we were doing alright..I said "no," because I wanted to know what was on my platter for four people contained! He was gracious and explained how EACH item was prepared and when I asked him how I was suppose to eat it..he said "there's no wrong way, mix and match however you like." I'm starting to get a hand on the flavor profile of this cuisine and its very unique. I'm not sure what I like and don't like yet, so I'll have to keep trying other places out. For now, all I know is that I've had tabouli in many places..and though I like tabouli, ours was just parsley and no beans, so maybe I just prefer tabouli with less parsley. So far I'm a fan of this place, but I hope to return after I've done more tasting and give it a more thoughtful review. read more

I grew up in the Middle East and I miss my neighborhood shawarma man. Didn't expect to have this good a shawarma in the suburbs of Detroit! I unfortunately couldn't take a picture because I inhaled it- it was that good! What makes the shawarma authentic? Them pickles! The chicken was succulent and the garlic sauce and the salty crunchy pickles all encased in a toasty pita, take you to Shawarma heaven! Sorry shawarma man, I think I found someone closer! The best casual restaurant I have been to in years. The food is fantastic. Not bland as someone else said in a review. Just not doused in garlic and salt. I can taste the food. We came in at 4 pm on a Saturday. Just some large families and not too busy. We had high expectations. It's a top ten restaurant in US for heavens sake. Well, I am sure it is the best for middle eastern food. Portions are huge. I got Mujadhara (sp?) and husband got stuffed lamb. We also got half order of meat grape leaves and hummus. Everything tender, hot, very fresh tasting. Service fast friendly and efficient. Worth the fun trip to Dearborn. What a wonderful town. read more

Overall, a solid place for Lebanese food. Our server was very quick but polite. Ordered the Al-Ameer platter for two with the fiance. It was a ton of food and we were stuffed by the end and even had to box the rest of the food up to take home. The restaurant was big with lots of tables. They kept the decor to a minimum. The layout reminded me of a diner for some reason. The food was pretty delicious with the exception of the chicken kebabs. I guess its really hard to make chicken breast over a fire taste good. All I was able to taste was the char and the burntness of the chicken. I had to stop eating after the first piece. I enjoyed their warm, puffy breads with the hummus, which tasted pretty authentic. Can't go wrong with the falafel and and shawarmas. The fattoush was too lemony for my liking, but still edible. Food came fast and service was fast. One other thing that I had to mention was their parking lot was TIGHT and it was very difficult to get between the two rows of cars up near the front of the restaurant. It spaced out a bit in the back, but overall, would be kinda difficult to back out if you weren't careful. If you are around the neighborhood, it wouldn't hurt to stop by at least once to taste some middle eastern food since it is what Dearborn is known for. It was still worth it to me. read more

This was my first time in Michigan so I wanted to try something different. Apparently there's a big middle eastern community so I tried this place.
