I stopped by this Akihi after strolling through the Farmers market last friday. I have a weekly thing with Akihi but I usually go to the Metuchen branch. So when I went in, i was not used to a small space since the other branches have enough room to move around, thankfully it was not busy so it was alright. They had board and card games to offer which is a plus, and also an outdoor seating. I personally don't like strawberries so before ordering, I had asked the staff if they can substitute the strawberry popping boba to a mango popping boba -- since the Mango Slush came with it, they were very accommodating and gave me the mango popping boba without any additional charge. Overall, this branch I would say is best for pick up and go situation since it's a very intimate space. I don't know how weekends work in this location but I would definitely order ahead of time. I will be back soon. :)

Akihi is a new version of Kittea. Menu is expanded to include waffles and soft serve ice cream. I typically order a standard milk bubble tea. My children like the mango smoothie with strawberry popping boba. Overall, always a hit and my children and I love having another ice cream option in town. Service is fast. Small seating area but great outdoor space outside and across the street if you are looking to chill.

Taro slushy bubble tea and strawberry cheesecake "my crush" slushy

Got sushi from across the street and then picked up this bubble tea. Took it home and it survived in the fridge. The workers were listening to music and talking and just being normal human beings, it was a refreshing atmosphere and the bubble tea being a 10/10 only adds to it. Highland park is such a walkable friendly town this place is smack dab in the middle: heads up it's a busy town so it's always street parking unless you're lucky. I only wish we stayed and had it in the store rather than taking it home, I'm sure it would be much much more amazing.

The boba was so so good, probably the best i've ever had. Everyone finished their drinks !

Edison, NJ - I had a hankerin' for shaved ice and, after a quick Yelp consultation, discovered Meet…read moreFresh was a short walk from where we were having dinner. This dessert shop offers authentic Taiwanese treats featuring grass jelly, tofu pudding, taro mochi balls, red bean soup, and the aforementioned shaved ice, along with egg waffles, various teas and other beverages. The limited edition summer osmanthus series caught my eye, so I went for an osmanthus milk shaved ice, infused with condensed sweetened milk and osmanthus syrup, a cloud of almond tofu pudding on top, with mochi balls, red beans, and lychee jelly tucked around the base. The flavor of the cool fluffy shaved ice is subtly sweet, lightly creamy, with just a hint of floral, and the snow melts on your tongue. The osmanthus flavor is not very strong or fragrant, however, though I've never had successful encounters with commercial osmanthus-flavored things outside of Asia, as it's a very distinctive and delicate taste that's also one of my favorite scents and culinary condiments, so I'm very particular about its faithfulness. We ordered a large since it's only $1 more than the medium, so practically begs one to order the oversized version, which is enough for 2+ people to share. But why so enormous? How about offering a personal sized one for a little less? Premium as the ingredients are, $18 feels like a lot for shaved ice. Between us two adults and one small child we couldn't finish it, but I double dog dare you to try. It was good though, and satiated my craving for a proper milk snow dessert.

With all the different toppings, it reminded me of the delicious shaved ice I used to have in Taiwan. The Chocolate Chip Deluxe Waffle paired perfectly with the vanilla ice cream, although it was a little on the sweeter side for my taste. I didn't catch the name of the lady who helped me, but she was incredibly kind and did an amazing job preparing these desserts. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience! The place wasn't buzzing with crowd or have too many pastries and bakery items on display filling every isle but this place stood out for a a very naturally tasting cupcake which our kid absolutely loved. The staff was kind and I'll look forward to coming back here to taste some of the other cake options they offer. The parking is plenty as it's attached to a mall.

Our first time at an Asian bakery since moving to Jersey! I funny enough heard about this in…read morepassing and not long after, spotted this place in the same shopping center as the 99 Ranch in Edison and I made a pit stop there (hence no drinks) before going on a grocery run. It was at night on a Saturday so many of the shelves were empty but they still had a few things left. Sunmerry appears to be a chain but one that I have never visited before until now so I can't really comment on what they have, but I did manage to grab: MATCHA CLOUD DONUT - This reminded me vaguely of the im donut donuts I tried in NYC. Very soft and pillowy and filled to the brim with a lightly sweet, matcha filling. I honestly don't have anything negative to say about this. RED BEAN MATCHA BAGEL - it's a matcha dough with red bean filling BUT the filling doesn't go all the way around. It goes maybe 65% so if you're splitting this with someone like I did, fingers crossed you both get a decent amount. The bagel was soft and in a bagel shape but it lacked the chew of a bagel. The filling was nice and different but the matcha taste was subtle - if that. Overall, liked the idea, but I wanted more of a bagel chew than what I got and to taste the matcha better. Maybe even have a more even share of the red bean. COFFEE BRIOCHE LOAF - my husband liked this one! Which is good because I got it for him. This is quite good. Soft, lightly sweet with a coffee top. We ate this maybe 12 hours after and much of the top layer had "melted" and gotten on the cellophane but it was still delicious. Perfection. I definitely scraped off the coffee bits from the cellophane so it didn't go to waste. PINEAPPLE BUN W/ MILK - I grabbed this one thinking there was a filling inside and there wasn't. I don't know if the bun was placed in the wrong location or the name is telling me the bun isn't vegan but it's a good pineapple bun but without anything inside, it was a tad dry. Maybe it needs a pat of butter like they do in HK. MELON PAN - I haven't had this in a good long while so I got it for fun. It's smaller than the pineapple bun and the topping is a little sweeter - I remember crunching on sugar crystals. It's not bad but also not filled so it's a tiny bit on the dry side. The place has tables to the side where you can enjoy your goodies. I didn't stay too long but they definitely serve drinks and delicious cakes as well. The staff were nice and the place seemed on the dim side. Fingers crossed I can go back during the day to get a better idea of what they have! In the meantime, this is a good place for an Asian bakery fix. They do list out ingredients under the names of their baked goods so that's awesome! From what I could see, their baked goodies are likely not vegan or gluten-free friendly, though...
