I'm not a huge bagel eater but every now and then I get a real craving for a REAL delicious bagel, and I usually just let it slide and wish we had great bagels in Anchorage. Today I was feeling determined and used the old "YELP" machine and searched for fresh bagels near me and up popped Wooden Spoons. Pleasantly surprised it's just a hop skip and jump away from my abode I set off on a bagel mission. The store is super cute and has stair AND ramp access so accessibility is spot on, easy to park as well. They have a variety of bagels and spreads as well as bagel sandwiches all at what I would consider a great price point for fresh bagels in Alaska!! I took home an Asiago and a Nordic bagel as well as a Dill Pickle cream cheese spread. The bagels were spot on, great flavor and amazing texture. I tried the pickle dip on its own and the flavor and consistency was perfect, but I did add some of my own smoked salmon to the spread to make a dill and smoked salmon spread and it turned out amazing. If you don't have your own smoked salmon they DO have a salmon spread you can buy and it looked super yummy as well. They also have day olds in the freezer, I did grab a bag of those to take up to the cabin and stick in the freezer up there so I'm stoked for that!! Last but not least the customer service was fantastic, and super friendly.

I went here twice in one week because I couldn't get enough. They also make delicious homemade schmears with the garlic one being my favorite, it pairs perfectly with the onion bagel. Service is great, local, a labor of love, can't wait to make my next bagel run and maybe try a breakfast sandwich this time! Bagel bagel bagel!

The bagel of choosing was the 'Pick Me', a steamed everything bagel topped with bacon, ham, sausage, egg, and pepper jack. I decided to add some pepper jelly on the side and it was delicious ‍. From the first bite of the soft bagel, all of the flavors complemented the next one. I recently found out about this gem from an ADN article. I can't wait to try the other bagel options!

We found them at APU on April 20th for a craft fair. They steam their own bagels and have a variety of flavors including plain, everything, onion, sesame, GF, and a sweet rotating option usually blueberry. I got the Barefoot breakfast bagel, overall it was pretty good. Very very messy since the cream cheese was warm and melted everywhere. The bagel was chewy and I was able to get an everything instead of the onion bagel it came with. You can pretty much choose which bagel you want with what sandwich. I picked off the onion even though there wasn't that much, and the tomato slice I got still had the sticker on it, which was bad quality control on their part . The banana pepper added a sweet yet tangy taste, not much cheddar on it, more peppers and banana peppers. It was very good, but again messy. We also got tots which honestly seemed like they were not frozen they were soft yet crunchy. A little spendy at almost $15 each give or take a few bucks. They are not huge bagels but stuffed with a lot of fillings.

Absolutely love the vibe in here, and the smattering of awesome pastries, and desserts all over-the-counter. I may only be in town for a week, but I'll probably stop by this place at least a couple more times. They seem to have a really great staff too, I could see everyone just busy and the utmost care and attention to detail going on with every pastry. Clean and comfortable atmosphere, with an amazing staff and downright awesome pastries, and such. Another homerun on my visit to Anchorage, has my highest recommendation.

You can see them bake the pastries and bread. Our first time in line, I decided to get their sausage poached egg breakfast sandwich and an Alaskan berry scone. My friend got their breakfast focaccia came with egg, cheese sausage on a focaccia. My egg sandwich was not good. I was surprised they didn't heat the sandwich. Not even sure if I had to ask? The egg wasn't that poached, the inside was just gooey and not runny, which was fine by me. Since it was not heated, the sausage patty was so cold, egg was cold, the bread bun they used was so big, too much bread, stale/hard and not proportional. It was pretty bad, not a good breakfast sandwich. Skip it. They made that up in the breakfast focaccia. The focaccia was warm, soft, and the egg and sausage was warm and just right. That's what you should get!!! We came back in line and got additional items bc they put our more. I got their fruit danish, my friend got their chocolate cupcake and an ham cheddar scone. Their danish was delicious. And their scones were very flakey and soft. Everything was great except that breakfast sandwich. Skip that and get the breakfast focaccia.

For my drink, I ordered "The Lady Godiva" (lavender mocha w/salted blackcurrant whipped cream) and it didn't disappoint. Service was great overall, but I did remove a star because I didn't appreciate feeling pressured to leave a tip. We were verbally asked if we wanted to leave a tip and how much, rather than being given the option to enter the tip ourselves. I personally prefer to choose the tip amount privately. We acknowledged and took our seats. A couple of observations while we waited. There were 4 workers, and only one making sandwiches. All the patrons were waiting on something from the lunch counter. The tables and main counter all needed a good wipe down. The staff needs better time management training to handle the "crowd". (It was not very crowded but there was no sense of urgency on anyone's part to get the people waiting their food.) The staff making sandwiches should have their hair tied back. I watched multiple people leave without being helped and multiple food delivery people waited and eventually left without the food. After 30 minutes, we did receive our 3 sandwiches. Two cold ones and a grilled cheese. The cold sandwiches were just ok for the price. The grilled cheese was not quite grilled and the cheese did not melt. The lesson learned for me is to just buy the ingredients and make sandwiches. For $50+, I should have just done that. This business could be doing so much better with a good manager, better customer service, and tightening up the cleanliness.

My partner got the Reuben and I got the Smokin' Mo Sandwich which is brisket, cheese and bbq. Finally some good brisket in town!! It was so good and tender. I was very happy with my order. It comes with a pickle which was nice and garlicky mmm mmm! Chips and slaw are optional sides, but I didn't partake. I also got latkes as I haven't had them since I was a child. They were good. They come with the traditional applesauce and sour cream. I found the portions generous - I came home with half a sandwich and 2 latkes to eat for dinner. The place is clean and has plenty of seats. They do breakfast all day. They also have Dr Browns soda from NY available by the can or case. The pickles can be bought too and all of their meats by the pound. We plan on coming to get some of the by the pound meats at another time. Staff was very friendly and helpful with answering any questions we had. Will definitely be back.
