Top quality sushi, very creative dishes, very attentive wait staff. The portions are real small though.

7pm Saturday night and the place was PACKED. waited about 20 minutes for a table...maybe longer but we were at the bar chatting so it was all good. next time i would call ahead. Warning: it's loud in here. Everything tasted very fresh. Miso soup was regular, crispy duck roll was very nice. Rolls we got included: california roll with shrimp, spicy tuna, salmon and crab. Went in for an early lunch and received the red carpet treatment from the manager. We were just going to order a bunch or rolls but he convinced to get the oysters, crab wrap and we got a few rolls. Wow delicious.. Definitely try some of the other items on the list other than the sushi. read more

One of the worst sushi spots I've ever been to. I agree with Steph M., it should be called Club Sushi! We sat at the sushi bar but the sushi chefs didnt so much as make eye contact, which is terrible. The waitress kept trying to get me to buy mixed drinks when all I asked for is a glass of water. The sushi chefs finished preparing our dish before we even got our appetizer and instead of giving it to us they left it on a rack until we finally got our appetizer and finished it. they do not pay much attention to their food as they do trying to get you to buy their expensive drinks. The fish did not taste fresh and their rolls were skimpy, which was good because I didnt feel so bad throwing away such a small amount of overpriced food. Aw shucks, I really wanted to have great sushi and got run of the mill, falling apart, warm sushi. Shame. The lemongrass hot/sour soup warmed my cockles and ticked my fancy with a hotter charge as I got nearer the bottom of the bowl.The staff was young and enthusiastic. There was no fault finding with the lot. We were seated near the bar and it was crazy noisy. I think that no matter where you sat the din of noise would have drowned out conversation. I come here often and generally like the sushi here but today ruined it for me and I'm not sure I will go back. First they told me my order would be ready in 30 minutes and it took an hour, totally screwing up lunch for an office full of people with tight lunch hours. While I waited that long I watched the sushi chefs who wear plastic gloves for hygiene purposes. One of them took a tissue or napkin, looked both ways and heartily blew his nose and then returned to his sushi prep without making a glove change. Kinda gross! They should know they are being watched and that this is a very unsanitary act. read more

I read several reviews before coming here. I guess my expectation was high. I did not think it was as good as some people think of this place. The decor is modern. Bar in the center. Very nice and chic. The staff is friendly enough. Not exceptional. It is a noisy place. Maybe because of the loudness of the music they play. People have to speak to each other louder. I am not a fan of the choice of music. It's night club music. I guess they want to give it a young feel. Not a good match for dining. And the music is a bit louder than I'd like. The food, I had The Ocean and my wife had 2 rolls. The ocean came with 6 good size shrimps, scallops ( 1 sliced to 5) with asparagus. Good enough. Not what I expected I a Japanese restaurant. Aji 53 is one of the best sushi restaurants on Long Island. It is aesthetically pleasing to the eye, the fish is ALWAYS fresh and the extensive menu makes your mouth water. FYI, friday through sunday is it always super packed. I like to go during the week after work for dinner and drinks when it is not too packed. The waiters are always friendly and super attentive. Consistently excellent sushi. I've been there for multiple special occasions. Freshest sushi I've ever tasted. It takes me 40 minutes to get there but its worth it. I recommend their sliced tuna appetizer, tuna avocado roll, and the rainbow roll. They also have very nice fruity cocktails. read more

Clubby Bay Shore Japanese is not the ideal spot for a first date or even conversation over dinner. The interior is very chic but the noise is deafening. We ordered some sushi rolls which came to us infant sized. I didn't realize one could make rolls this tiny. Service wasn't the most competent either. I started coming here after Shiki in Babylon discontinued their business due to an unfortunate event. Aji 53 is a fantastic alternative, it's always Roll city everytime I dine at that joint. I cop the Holiday roll almost everytime, it's fking stacked, no soy sauce needed on this one. To start my dining experience I'll shred thru a house salad and a miso soup, if you get miso to go you're gunna need to heat that up when you get home cuz luke warm miso is something no one would ever fancy. I don't know who they got concocting the ginger dressing in the back but that guy needs a raise, my tits seem to go missing everytime I indulge in a house salad with this savory sauce. If I have enough time I'll take out each leaf individually and lather the dressing over the front and back then reassemble the leaves on the plate. Aji offers a sake bomb upon check in through yelp but tbh I would just take it upon yourself to ask them for an extra side of the ginger dressing so you can do a shot of that, phenomenal. Along with the abovementioned Holiday roll to get the main courses going, i'll sling a tuna avocado salad. This salad is from the heavens and I doubt anyone would disagree, the word scrumptious would not even do justice as a proper adjective. I sware they dish you out a whole avocad in there so I know I'm getting my healthy fats in for the day. I actually got this dish to go recently and while I was eating it at home watching Gotham on netflix, great show if anyone needs a binger (Ivy is a stunner in season 4), my ham roast of a cat started growling at me. I'll have you know the relationship I have with my cat is not an ordinary one, and this I believe is because I treat him to fancy feast (top shelf wet food) at least once a week and I always give this whale a full cup of dry food for breakfast n dinner. As I treat my walrus of a cat so well, he knows not to give me shit, "never bite the hand that feeds you," so to hear him snarling at me really threw me for a tail spin. I would have launched him out the back door for this behavior but I realized what I was feasting on was none other than the LI renowned tuna avocad salad. Sympathizing with him as I watched his most basic primal instincts take over due to my meal, I simply shared with him; and this was not because I was terrified of a claw in my cheek but because to not share a tuna avocad salad from aji 53 could kill any being I believe. His face lit up like a christmas tree upon first bite, he was certainly in heaven. However, I didn't warn him about the spicy sauce because no one growls at me. Within a minute of complete grace he found himself running to the sink for a series of laps out the faucet. Moving on from here I will be generally 4 sapporos deep and then the garlic oysters come out. Man i sware if my girlfriend could just replicate the taste of her snatch to that of Aji 53's garlic oysters, I'd be going down on her night and day. These things are more succulent than any pair of tits you'll ever have in your life. If you're looking for a time, plow through a few racks of these. Enough about the food, how about the place itself? For a japanaese restaraunt, these guys are with it in the music department. I came here with my ex in the past, total babe, and the place was throwin down bangers all night. Yeah it's louder than some venues I go to where I actually pay to listen to beats, but in cases like this it can be nice when I just wanna enjoy my sushi and not listen to the rail piece across from me. Speaking of broads, the hostess working is always a smoke. Aji, this is coming from a yelp warrior, if you really want to put yourself on the map, strip whatever hostess you have on the clock down to nothing, I'm talkin stark naked, throw some sashimi on her then lay her across the bar. In my time spent at Aji, if I'm not sitting in the back out of site from the hostess and instead within sites of her, I can barely focus on the treats in front of me. So instead of taking my imagination for a rollercoaster ride, lets just cut to the chase here, strip her down and load her up with sashimi across the raw bar so my mind can for once be satiated. I'm sure the master sushi chefs behind the raw bar would 100% agree with me. Putting a wrap on this review, I'd like to remark on the stunning killer whale tile design near the 6 top in the back left corner of restaraunt. It's more eye catching than all of the past Aji hostesses combined and unlike their short lived careers, this tile design will be with you time and time again for all of your future dining experiences. If you make a reservation, request a spot next to this beauty, it's a masterpiece. It must have taken quite some time to lay each tile in such a particular fashion to create this intricate killer whale design. Kudos Aji 53, you can count on my visits for years to come. read more

Came here for a random Tuesday ladies' night and was thoroughly impressed with not only the appetizers and entrees but also the ambiance. The lemongrass miso soup is to DIE for! The sushi rolls were good and their shrimp tempura..yumm. The drinks were okay, nothing spectacular. The service was great, although I wondered...where were the glasses of water?! Shouldn't that be standard on our table but guess not. Bathrooms were nice. Decent amount of customers considering it was a Tuesday night...totally recommend this place. Im a really picky sushi eater... I cant eat it if its not ice cold, and Aji 53 never fails me. They have really yummy ice cold rolls, which is a wonderful thing! I also love how cheap it is! I was honestly surprised when I saw the $$$ sign, because any time I have eaten here, I have been blown away at how inexpensive it is compared to most sushi places by me. They also have awesome lunch specials, $11 for 3 rolls and a miso soup, and $11-$13 boxes. So so cheap, and quick! Its really great quality sushi for a really cheap price. read more

I feel ever since they opened their new location they must have sent all the good cooks and help there because this one isn't as strong as it used to be. We used to get take out from there almost every week and then they messed up my order, forgot something or it wasn't ready when I went to get it 30+ minutes after I called . The food tastes like it got watered down and they don't cook the veggies enough. And when we went there same issue food wasn't as good as it used to be. This is my absolute number one favorite sushi place in the world. When I'm home, I'd never go anywhere else. Their lunch special is great - 2 rolls for $8 or 3 rolls for $11- including soup or salad. Always very clean and best tasting sushi I've ever known. The workers are the sweetest people I've ever met... Since my boyfriend and I go there all the time (really, we're always eating there or ordering to go..) they always give us free appetizers or dessert which is so kind of them. For the holiday season they even gave us our own bottle of wine to take home as a gift! Yuki is always an amazing help and would do just about anything for you. Also a great location, especially when you're sitting by the window. I ate at Aji 53 with a group of friends this past Thursday evening. We ordered appetizers, sushi, and sashimi to share. I had a few scales on some of my pieces of fish, but overall the meal was fine until the very last piece. We ordered a piece of Ikura/salmon roe with a quail egg on top, as a special last bite. When I bit into my piece, I found a large, extremely sharp shard of plastic embedded in the piece. I'm so thankful I didn't swallow it or bite down in a different way. When I showed the waiter she was very apologetic and offered a new piece, which I refused, and then offered some free desserts and drinks. I'm appreciative of the apology, but it doesn't do much to change the fact that I was served potentially extremely dangerous food. I can't even imagine how the plastic shard got there. I have been coming to Aji 53 for years, since not long after it opened. This honestly used to be my favorite restaurant- until this year I have had almost all overwhelmingly positive experiences. A few months ago I ate here with my family and found that the quality of the fish, avocado, salad, and service was surprisingly bad, and I was reluctant to return. But since this restaurant has historically been "the best," my friends convinced me to give it another shot. I sincerely hope that things change back to the way they once were, but after this experience I sadly will not be eating here anymore, and I won't be recommending this place to anyone. read more

I only give it a 4 because Friday nights, even with a reservation, they make you wait at the crowded bar for a good 30 minutes, if not more, before they seat you. I am very disappointed ! I went today and my sushi rolls were very wet and falling apart ! I killed 8 flies while eating; I even showed her the flies and she cleaned them up! when I complained the waitress gave me a terrible excuse about the back door being open..
