You may end up getting advice that's not much different from what you could find with a little research online, while relying on a sales associate with relatively limited training. I'd rather spend my money wisely: get footwear advice from qualified professionals such as running coaches, physical therapists, or doctors, then shop around for the best price at larger sporting-goods retailers that carry quality running shoes and gear and offer strong return policies. I also feel that there may have been some management turnover at this particular Fleet Feet. The service seemed noticeably better one or two years ago.

When I asked if she could kindly call the Hayward store to verify and ask if they could hold it for me, she flat out said no. I was shocked--the store was practically empty, with about five employees working and only three or four customers total. There was zero reason not to take two minutes to make a quick phone call. I walked out and called the Hayward store myself. Not only did they not have the shoe in stock, but when I asked the employee in Hayward if they normally call other stores to check stock for customers, she said yes, absolutely. I went back inside to speak with the manager and asked why his team refused to make a basic phone call for a customer. His facial expression showed complete indifference. It wasn't until after I brought the issue to his attention and complained that he finally picked up the landline to call around. Customer service here is extremely lacking. Employees seem unmotivated to do the bare minimum, and management only steps up after you call them out. I expect much better effort from a retail team.

It was definitely frustrating, but Abraham took my concerns seriously from the beginning. He personally reached out, apologized, offered to restring my racquet free of charge, and even provided a gift card for the inconvenience. What impressed me the most was that he didn't just fix my racquet--he worked to improve the process. When I picked it up today, I noticed they now attach a label showing the string type, tension, date, and stringer. That tells me they're focused on preventing mistakes in the future, not just fixing one complaint. Every business can make mistakes, but not every manager takes ownership the way Abraham did. His professionalism, communication, and commitment to improving the customer experience earned my trust back. Thank you, Abraham, and the Sports Basement team. I remember so much back in high school, with my part-time job in the library shelving books, yet I'd fork over almost my entire paycheck to get some J's... but then, it sorta just stopped once I graduated high school & went to college - up 'til I was gettin' into my early twenties, and had phased out of it & moved on to 'grown man shoes', as my best friend would say back in the day not too many years back. And third, this is the smallest Famous Footwear that I've seen, so it's possible that they may not have as many shoes as other stores. My husband was able to go through and get the shoes that he was looking for. Someone helped him and they were totally nice about it. I can't say that I'd want to come back because the trip to find them took place halfway to a location and halfway back. That much walking wasn't something that I was looking forward to doing. But they had the shoes and that was a good thing, so they get the three stars.
