Bar program is strong. The short rib pot pie was a straight up winner. Rich, comforting, and not trying to be anything other than good food done right. The bone marrow lost me. Cooked well, but buried under too many microgreens and then oddly topped with tortilla chip strips. No smokiness either. It felt more confused than cohesive. Where it really started to miss was the overall approach. A lot of "the chef intends this..." type explanations. It ends up feeling like the food insists upon itself instead of just letting you enjoy it. That's the bigger issue. This place exists in a space where I don't think most people want to meet it. Not casual enough to relax, not refined enough to justify the performance. Bottom line: good drinks, great pot pie, but the experience tries a little too hard.

This ACE has repeatedly saved me time and money by suggesting better solutions for home repair. The selection is surprisingly good also and usually has at least a couple of solutions to every home repair problem. Just ask and they will tell you the best solution! On one occasion I had called a professional plumber who declared my kitchen plumbing problem "too hard" with the plumber complaining about the depth of the sink and the relatively high location of the single drain pipe (for three drains). The plumber then slipped out the back, leaving me to solve my own problem. I took a trip to the ACE and the associate at this ACE spent over an hour helping me solve this plumbing problem, with the ACE associate placing more than a dozen plumbing parts on the floor in the proper order... I went home and by the end of the day it was working. On another occasion, I went to this ACE thinking I would buy some WD-40 to loosen rusted screws in order to remove a broken screen door. The ACE associate showed me the WD-40 but then suggested an alternate product "PB Blaster" which I purchased on their recommendation. I returned home and applied the PB Blaster to the rusted screws on the screen door. Several screws were rusted on tight and resisted my efforts to loosen them. The instruction for the PB Blaster advises waiting a few minutes for the Blaster to soak in, so it seemed like a good time to take a lunch break. I returned from lunch to find the rusted screws popped out, and the screen door on the ground. Wow, just wow. So, if there is such a thing as a home repair magician, these guys are it! I was wearing all black with camouflage military slacks. That must of been where they started their stereo-typing, as I didn't look like I had money to spend from the LaGrange store. I walked the entire lighted footprint as I strolled past the sales desk twice. I took one more look in the area of the showroom with price tags averaging anywhere from $399 to $700 plus. My third approach near the sales desk, made me stop in my tracks with 3 sales people, one on the phone. I asked out loud to them all and asked them if they were on "commission". One lady wearing eyeglasses kinda under her breath stated "Yes". Then I stated that I was in their area of business for at least 15 minutes and NO ONE approached me or openly said Hello. As I continued past them, I said to them that I have $$$$ to spend but wasn't going to patronage them as didn't show any emotion to assisting me. I consider this a very poor approach to sales.

That's pertinent because the bulbs were really specific and vintage looking. I ended up being helped by Jason, the owner of the hardware store. He was extremely knowledgeable and even pointed out that I had the wrong ol' lady bulbs in my hand for the ceiling fan. We traded a little small talk after that and then his equally helpful wife helped me ring up my purchase. I really just wandered in here wanting to avoid going to Home Depot. I appreciated the opportunity to support this small business and meet/connect with its owners. I surely intend on going back whenever I need more hardware stuff for my home.

The guy, who was the only guy there, who was at the register and made our key was EXTREMELY unwelcoming. The SOB barely wanted to speak to or deal with us. He gave off a cold vibe and felt like we were bothering him. He's definitely a racist guy and will NOT ever step foot back there ever again. Racism runs all in this place.
