When he came home, he was crushed. So now at 4pm on a Friday, I have to find someone who can help. Living in Brookfield, when I need help, I've always received the best from this particular Ace, and today was no different. My son and I approached Joe, told him our story and asked for some help. He immediately went to work and fixed the issue within minutes. I tried to give him money, but he refused. He said he was just happy to be able to help my son. Well, he did more than that, he also saved my son's Halloween with his friends tomorrow! Joe is an example of what all the big box stores have lost. He's a guy in our neighborhood who cares about helping others before thinking of the money. Its on the smaller size for most Ace Hardware stores, they still seem to have all the normal things you are use to getting at any local Ace. They really are my one-stop-shop for all things outdoors. The parking lot can get pretty crazy, but remember they have street parking off of Cermak so try to circle once if you can't find a spot. Keep being a great local spot in our neighborhood! I asked for help from the helpful hardware man. I believe I was helped by the store manager, who was asking me questions like he was the customer and I was the employee. Why do you need 6 screws when it came with 12. Do you need 3/4 ? I don't know what is 35mm? Eventually, we both decided what screw that I needed, and I proceeded to make my way to check out. I saw that there was a sponge for 3.99 note in corner that this sponge has been priced 3.99 since 2/22. Not a bad price so I go to buy the sponge and screws. The lady checks me out and sponge rings up 4.59 And I immediately say wait the sponge is like 389 or 399. It's definitely under four dollars. She replies it rang up 4.59 so that's what it is. I said well if you would go look your price is marked differently. She said I can just tell you that this is what it rang up and this is how much it cost. I did buy it because I needed the sponge, but I went back and took a picture and showed the manager the same manager that helped me with the screws who is not far from the cash register and they both left about the fact that I went and showed them that it was 399 and she charged me 4.59. And said oh well Scott needs to fix the prices looks like Scott missed this one oh well. I don't know why they think that they're entitled to 50 extra cents. I was self sufficient so I did not experience any problems. They do ask for exact change on the cash self checkout due to the penny being removed from circulation. I miss their free Starbucks machine from pre-COVID times, haha!
