After Harvey we had these folks come out and make sure the units had not been damaged as we failed to shut the units off when we evacuated. They come every 6 mos. to do a maintenance check up. Each service they arrive on time, they are courteous and consistent with the service person being the same on each occasion. Thus the CS is streamlined. Everybody knows you clean the AC coils in the Fall and the Spring. You buy the can of gunk, spray and wash. Oh wait, everyone knows to turn off breaker and the thermostat, right... that requires reading the instructions on the can. Not mentioning any names on who fails to read instructions. Guests are arriving the following day and they cannot all sleep in the wine chiller. Houston heat is serious, this company responded and resolved the issue with the breaker. Hats off Jason. Trip charge was the least of the stress. Crisis resolved. read more

Had a technician come out on a Monday to repair/ replace some damaged duct work. Technician said he could do anything as there was moisture present and we had to call another company to dry everything out. Did that, then attempted for 2 days to get Air express to come back out and fix the ducts so the area would dry out. Absolutely horrible communication, I had to keep calling and calling and they can't give an ETA. Finally they told me he would be here between 5:30pm and 7:30 pm. At 7:45pm, still no call or update. It is now 8:53pm and still no call from anyone. What a joke of a company. Do not call these people, they are incompetent. read more

PROS: - Polite people who tried to be helpful. CONS: - The quote could have been provided over the phone. - Didn't confirm requested work scope over the phone. - Requesting an $80 non-refundable deposit and then offering an unreasonable estimate soured my opinion of Air Express/McWilliams (~$1,300 offered vs ~$519 from a competitor). I requested a quote for home modifications to enable use of a portable backup generator: 1. Panel interlock switch. 2. A/C soft start kit to reduce the number of amps required to start. 3. Add a tee, valve, and quick connect to the natural gas line to allow the generator to run on gas. In order to get a quote, they said I needed to have somebody stop by. $80 charge to visit. I agreed and set up an appointment, with intention to accept their quote. They seemed like a high quality company to me. When the Air Express/McWilliams rep arrived, he provided a $1,300 quote for the soft start kit from beside his truck. He never even looked at the A/C. Compare this to ~$519 and ~$600 from two other service providers (Air Oracle was the cheapest). I said that this was far more expensive than other quotes, and asked why the price was so much higher. The rep simply mentioned that Air Express/McWilliams is a big company with high overhead. I'm willing to pay more for value, but if the only difference is company overhead, then my answer is "no". I went with Air Oracle instead to do the soft start kit install. It was an excellent experience from start to finish and I appreciated that they confirmed my generator will be able to start the A/C now. It was such a good experience that I will likely sign up for their annual maintenance package. Regarding the panel interlock switch, the Air Express/McWillams rep told me that they don't do electrical work. He mentioned that the dispatcher included something like this in the work request, but he wasn't sure exactly what I needed. This could have been a great time to call me prior to the appointment. While at my home, the rep kindly provided the contact info for an electrician. Instead, I went with a company called Lee Services. They will install next week. Their quoted price was competitive in comparison, and I have a lot of confidence that everything will be done to local code requirements. Finally, the Air Express/McWilliams rep said that changes to the gas line would require a second visit at additional cost. I declined and went with Tony's Plumbing. Excellent service; they went over the work and confirmed local requirements to have it done properly. They also confirmed that my line would be able to provide enough gas for the generator to run at the rated capacity. So really, Air Express/McWilliams set up an appointment without confirming they they understood my requested work scope. They also didn't tell me that they couldn't do all of the requested work prior to the appointment. After the visit I received an email asking for feedback on my visit. The email link sent me to a web page that offered to have someone contact me to make things right. I explained the situation on the web form and asked for my $80 back one week ago. No reply. I don't like to provide negative reviews, and am sure that Air Express/McWilliams would want to make things right by refunding my $80 deposit. Perhaps they need more time to get back to me. I'm hoping that all who read this take note to get as much information on the phone as possible so you're not surprised. read more

We had an old system and it needed to be replaced but the issue of the two rooms that are warmer than the rest of the house is still an issue. The system looks great, runs great and was a fair price. I recently had terrible water damage from a A/C drain pan pipe which leaked down my wall and ceiling and caused a nightmare of damage to my master bathroom and master closet. That issue was repaired but I worried it could happen again. I called Air Express because I saw one of their service vans at an intersection near my home. I took a photo of it and called them to schedule service. They came out and promptly. Agustin, the tech carefully inspected everything in my attic that was related to my A/C pipes, drain pans , ducts, etc. He found many issues including air leaks in the ducts and found a very serious A/C drain pipe problem that no one else had discovered and repaired them all! He documented everything he did and emailed the invoice to me with service notes and photos. Before he left he took the time go over the invoice and explained everything he did by using the photos before the repair and after. I now have peace of mind knowing no mysterious issues will cause leaks and water damage thanks to the tech's experience and efficient work. I highly recommend this company! read more

Paid $59 dollars to have someone come out and an extra $40 for labor. The ac tech was friendly enough. $40 labor just to put water on an air compressor to get it to cool down. FORTY DOLLARS. The technician didn't give me a diagnostic report, only a quote sheet showing me how I had the option to get a really expensive HVAC system or mid tier range. He couldn't tell me, definitively, if I had to replace my TXV valve. He also wasn't able to detect a freon leak because of the TXV valve. Really. He quoted me a cost that was $140 more than the catalogue he showed me that had all the equipment that Air Express sells. So, the visit was not great. I don't appreciate having someone try and up sell me equipment or extras. I called a competitor who not only gave me a free second opinion, they were able to detect a leak without having to do anything special. So, I was mistaken in thinking that because Air Express is a neighborhood business, they'd be good. I will say this, because I wasn't given a complete price over the phone on how much this visit would all cost, I asked if I could write a post dated cheque. They were nice enough to allow that. I was pretty desperate at that point because my house was warming up and we are getting into these abnormally hot/humid months. I wasn't sure if I had an ac system just going out. My advice to you is if you utilize this company, get a diagnostic write up about your HVAC system, quote sheet if you require it, and definitely a second opinion. There are plenty of companies around here worth looking into without having to worry about paying a huge markup for services, equipment and fees. read more

Our A/C went out in the middle of the night this past Thursday (yes, in August). We called Air Express on Friday morning. Sam was at our house within an hour from that first call. He completed a thorough check of the system and very clearly explained all of our options. Since our system was 10 years old, we opted to replace it. But we were worried about making it through the weekend. That was no problem, the Air Express team scheduled the installation for the next morning (on a Saturday). They were scheduled to be here between 8 & 9 am on Saturday, but they arrived by 7:45am!! Those guys worked their butts off in the heat non-stop until the job was completed. They were very courteous. I had a complete HVAC system installed In August and I am very pleased with price, product, installation and follow up. I had a 4 ton American Standard single phase unit, a gas furnace and complete replacement of the ducting in the attic. They removed the old ducting and installed new ducting. I got 3 quotes, all from respected names in the Houston market. One quoted me $19,000, but gave me a $3,000 discount, the second quoted me $16,500 without a discount and Air Express quoted me $11,300. Air Express showed up on time, did the installation and left a clean house behind. Their office staff helped me with a $250 rebate after the installation from the manufacturer.
