They're all most definitely having a great time, soaking up the fantastic atmosphere and character and being served by seasoned pros with a level of old school care and camaraderie, and focus on loyalty to the regulars that is also sadly rapidly fading away (how many other places in this town still know the meaning of the words "buy back?") Where the place really sets itself apart from all the other local watering holes however charming they might be on their own right however, is the food. Its lives up to the original designation of a tavern as a place that places a priority on the cuisine, and indeed the offerings rise far far above the bar-food norm. This is the type of spot that not only serves one of the great, deeply satisfying under-the radar burgers, non nonsense but deeply meaty uniquely presented on a long hero-type roll, but also one of the best, and cheapest NY Strips in town and a killer prime rib special. Also has some of the most reliably crispy wings, even if the propriety house sauce is just a tad sweet for my tastes, and a rotating list of delicious house made soups (particularly a marvelous lobster bisque) that can be paired with said wings or most other options as part of the wonderful lunch specials. I've heard many other patrons praise the grilled chicken wrap but have never had the chance to give it a try as of yet. The staff, to include the bartender and waiters, were all very nice, welcoming, and attentive, and I loved chatting with the other patrons as well. I got there early to snag a table, and the team was already hard at work with nearly the entire beergarden packed with fans. The hostess Jenna was an absolute rockstar all night - I don't think she stopped moving or smiling! Not only was she seating guests with poise and insane amounts of charm, but she was also running food and drinks to make sure guests weren't waiting for their orders - in fact, despite there being more than 250 people in the beergarden, we never waited more than 4 minutes for drinks and 12 minutes for food which is pretty impressive given how busy they were inside and outside. We were served by Lana, who legit might have been the nicest, friendliest, most engaging server I have ever met in New York City, and I am not being overly dramatic here. She handled her insanely large section with aplomb, took the time to actually learn our names and address us by names when asking if we wanted to order anything, checked in on us every few minutes even if we did not need anything, and despite likely being tired from all of the guests, the running of food and drinks, and the hustling, she was cracking jokes all night through her radiant and starry smile, and making our group feel like the most important people there despite the fact that we were just three regular dudes enjoying a basketball game. Her attentiveness and personality alone are worth requesting to sit in her section at all times. Food was solid on this trip - our table ordered a half-pound burger which was cooked and seasoned perfectly (came with fries and toppings), mozzarella sticks which were piping hot with a nice crunch on the exterior, waffle fries (had to get them again they were too good last trip), and honey BBQ wings, which although they weren't very meaty (not their fault since I am assuming they didn't butcher the wings in-house - could have just been a lean batch from the supplier), the sauce was addictive and delicious and I found myself dipping everything we ordered into it so it wouldn't go to waste - order the Honey BBQ! All beers came out cold and rapidly (Cobblestones uses plastic for half liter beers when the beergarden is saturated with guests, just be prepared for that - makes sense because of the volume). The rest of the staff was incredible given the chaos. Beergarden manager Pete made it a point to check in on us a couple of times and was very appreciative of all of the guests coming for the game, and you can tell he steers the ship effectively because everyone in the beergarden was focused, attentive, and in the zone during what many bars would be challenged to handle. One final thought - my two friends who came with me (who are NOT "let's go out drinking at night" type of guys) asked me when we are coming back for a Friday or Saturday night - they loved the atmosphere, loved the friendly service from Lana, and loved the food and drinks. I would like to say this is a great commuter bar whether you are killing time for a LIRR train or a flight out of JFK airport to stop by to have a drink and mingle with other guests and their lovely bartenders are...Ashley, Kay, Sade, Nifilya (the Indian bartender) and there was one who use to be there name Farita, who moved down to Florida. They make it a worth while to go Now on the flip side I gave it a 4 cause there is a newer bartender, that works in the day, I don't know her name but it starts with a S, a short Caucasian lady with an accent, isn't the best bartender. When I went up to her the bar was slow and probably 4 - 5 bar guests maximum, and ordered a drink, she is slow, likes to talk a lot (which isn't a bad thing but not focused) can't multitask, and washing glasses, while ordering a beer to her, and uses the glass she has washed when she has chilled beer glasses to pull out the fridge to pour a draft beer in the glass that she just cleaned. Who does that? And what bartender does that, unless it was very busy! And a bartender would tell you I don't have any cold glasses at the moment, which she did have cold glasses in the fridge. Meanwhile a guy came after me ordered 2 Bud Light, and she took so long for my drink (to give me a glass that she just washed instead of going in the fridge for a chilled glass which they were in the fridge that are cold) the guy who ordered 2 Bud Light left and not wait around for her to pour his beers. Meaning she's not on top of her game having dirty glasses laying around to wash when they should've been washed before hand when you have 4 - 5 bar guests. I went again at night and saw the same bartender, and it was the same scenario of ordering a shot, while she was talking and couldn't multitask as she was cleaning a shot glass to give to me, like glassware becomes a priority when a guest comes in for a drink and to wait for a glass to be washed and served by her and she overcharged me. I don't go on the shifts that the Caucasian woman, name starts with a S is working due to those 2 horrible experiences and with her being slow as molasses she shouldn't be working a night shift. The bar is very sketchy. The homeless hang around the bar asking for money and it's not safe, so please be very careful when coming this bar. Every 3 minutes there's someone asking for money, or some substance abuser trying to hustle you. read more

No special event, no DJ worth mentioning, nothing that makes a cover make sense. Overall, it feels like a downgrade from what this place used to be. There are no better options nearby unfortunately.
