Now, most of the people that work in my industry are large framed white people who know how to eat - and Joey and Kel are no exception to that. I told her about who I was getting this set up for and she knew who I was talking about. She set-up a very nice selection after talking to the chef to see what those guys like to eat (!!!!!!!) and the chef made a few suggestions that went over very well. My family and I had dinner at Ahi last night and it was one of the worst dining experience we've had in a long time. First of all it was not crowded at all so there was no excuse for the poor service we received. The rice in our bento boxes was cold. We told our server about it and she just said that she'd tell the chef and didn't offer to bring us hot rice that we could actually eat and she acted irritated that we mentioned it. The worst part was, our 8 year old didn't receive the salmon in his bento box like we ordered. Instead they put salad in two of the sections and left out the meat. So when we mentioned that to our server and requested forks for the little kids instead of chopsticks, she again acted like she didn't care and we had to ask two more times before the salmon and forks came out. The food was mediocre at best. I definitely wouldn't dine at Ahi again unless they hire a competent staff. Also the sushi at Ahi isn't great either so for amazing sushi, I would recommend Sakura on Chinden and Eagle Rd, or Rice in Eagle instead. Much better food and service!! read more

I heard good things about Ahi when I moved to the area several years ago. I'm always a bit apprehensive about raw fish in Idaho for obvious reasons. I'm so glad I tried it, because Ahi quickly became our go-to sushi spot. I am from Hawaii and Ahi's management and approach to cuisine appears to be, too. There are other island style entrees and appetizers that would appeal to guests who aren't sushi fans. The baked mussels are my favorite. But their SUSHI - a wide variety of fish that changes regularly, perfectly seasoned rice, amazing sauces and creative combinations. They even have a secret menu. I would put Ahi up there with the best sushi restaurants I've been to, even outside of Idaho. Mahalo nui, you guys. read more

Thanks to Randy being behind the bar my dad and I had a great meal! The restaurant is in a nice location,slightly off the beaten path in Eagle, exactly one mile from my house so we walked. I love the high ceilings and wall color. They get their fish and seafood from LA and a shipment or two from Hawaii every week. We went on a Tuesday and took advantage of their two-for-Tuesday deal. We got pork gyoza, the clementine roll without the cream cheese and add tempura bits and he got the firecracker. We left paying 30$ not including a (generous) tip. Nice conversation with the chef and servers, never had an empty glass. Chef checked on us after we were handed the sushi to make sure it was what we were looking for. YOU MUST ASK FOR THE BASIL HABENERO SAUCE even if it's just on the side. The flavor is amazing and yes, it's pretty spicy but if I can handle it- you can. read more

They sell better sushi at the supermarket. Seriously. I moved here 2 years ago from Central Florida which has a large Asian community and great sushi restaurants. I worked in the restaurant business for many years. Ahi Sushi was recommended by a co-worker at a local restaurant. Said it was really good...he was really wrong. First, it took 15 minutes for us to get 3 glasses of water. Next, our server kept forgetting to bring us a bottle of regular soy sauce - the only bottle on our table was low sodium. Last, and worst, the sushi sucked. Specifically, the 6 pieces of Nigiri served on my stark white plate were salty (which, I guess, explains the low sodium soy sauce), and the 2 pieces of eel were small, shriveled and desiccated-looking. The final bill? $62 for 14 pieces of sushi and 1 roll. Forget this place. read more

I wanted to like Ahi Sushi Bar, I really did! A friend of mine is a server here and always boasts about how great it is. I was excited but skeptical at the idea of sushi in Idaho so I told her I'd give it a try the next time I am in town. I went in today for lunch. We were the only ones there at first and then the stampede showed up! The one waitress working had to juggle ten tables by the time we were finished with our meal. We had edamame for a starter. It was very good but had a lot of salt on it. Not a good choice for those watching their salt intake. I ordered a California roll fried and my co-diner had a Winding Creek Roll. I was a little bummed that mine didn't have any sauce on it and I kept using the sauce off the Winding Creek roll. The food was alright overall, but not the best I've had. The reason I'm giving this such a low rating is because I got food poisoning. About 20 minutes after eating there, I started getting symptoms of food poisoning. Fortunately the illness only lasted about 5 hours, but let me just say that the Cali roll didn't taste that great the second time around. I didn't even have sashimi, so I'm not sure what caused this. read more

As many other reviews have stated, I too agree that the sushi here is fresh. The rolls are also a decent size. Of the 3 rolls I tried, I thought 2 of them were pretty darn good ( Volcano and the A Bomb) the 3rd left something to be desired (The Winding Creek Roll). The tempura appetizer was small and lacked variety. The menu does say it is 8 pieces, I guess I just assumed it would be 8 BIG pieces. There was 1 piece of broccoli and the rest was potato and onion. (no squash or sweet potato). Also ordered the baked mussels, which were quite delicious. Our server was attentive and friendly. Sushi took a fair amount of time to arrive, considering the size of our party. They also did a good job of keeping everyone's order straight. Restaurant interior was pretty basic. They do have a nice shaddy patio, set up for small groups, which I would imagine is great on a nice evening. read more

I can't believe I'm reading anything positive about this place. The best sushi in the area? I think not! Service was terrible. Waitress was completely clueless--came back 3 times to tell me they were out of the beers I was asking for. Our appetizer of beef skewers came well after our sushi rolls and only because I asked about them. She admitted to completely forgetting about them. She said the chef would remake them if they were cold. They were cold. We didn't feel like waiting any longer. The sushi rolls were among the saltiest I've ever had. Absolutely awful. The cream cheese mixture was oozing out of every roll and completely over powered them. Lastly, had a nightmare of a time with the Boise Biz coupon I purchsed--$25 for $50 worth of food. Again, clueless waitress. Long story short, I could only use 1 coupon and would have to come back again to get my 2nd $25 worth of food. Oh brother. At least it will be free then. My husband loves the Crunchy Roll (especially) and the Dragon Roll here. I'm not a sushi eater, so the first time I got a bento box with teriyaki chicken and veggie tempura. The selection of veggie tempura wasn't my favorite, they used onion as one of the veggies, which was fine for me, but others might not like onion. The bad thing was that the teriyaki chicken had a rubbery texture and was fatty. I won't ever get it again. It was also nice sitting outside on the patio during the summertime. It came TEMPURA BATTERED (wrong!), in four inch by 1 inch chunks. Wrong again. It wasn't sitting in its tentsuyu sauce either. Next, the baked volcano roll. It was just sauce and salt. The gyoza? Not housemade. The sashimi? Not fine cut, and it had grayed. One would think the ambiance would make up for it. Nope. No decor, no music, nothing. Ordered a sparkling wine, it came in a regular white wine glass. Something this basic wasn't even presented correctly. Since moving to Idaho and having tried a few sushi bars, I had decided that sushi in the Treasure Valley is basically mid-grade fish smothered in mayo-sauce. Then I ate at Ahi! I finally got a chance to go there and got there around 1pm. I had an appointment at 3:00pm. You would have thought 2 hours would have been enough time. There was one waitress and it was super slow. On my 2nd order, I got to order my one special roll and after waiting 45 minutes I had to cancel my order and leave. Disappointed in the service. I read many reviews previously that stated the same thing and now I don't see them on the reviews any longer. I'd love to try it again but for $30 for AYCE, I don't want to have the same experience.
