The service was horrible. I understand when we went it was Valentines days, although it took an hour and ten minutes to get my food when my boyfriend had already finished his. I am disappointed I used to love this place when I was little. It took 15 minutes to get a menu, 20 get our appetizers which was just miso soup. I ended up asking for a to go container for my food because I started to get emotional and still payed full price because I was too scared to complain. I've been coming to Shige's for over 20 years! The food is always great, the servers are nice, and you can't beat the prices. While the downtown Boise location was best (and closed years ago), don't let the Express location in Meridian deter you. It's lowkey but everything is still ready good. Also know that the menu at the restaurant is much more extensive than what you'll find online. read more

I didn't know you could get sushi on a conveyor boat in Boise but here we are. Yup, I said "conveyor boat." The bar area has a water feature moat that goes around. They put dishes on the boat and it makes its way around. Their lunch menu had a good selection and the owners were super friendly. We even got a free cup of miso soup. The sushi tasted fresh and was good. It's a great place to be for a quick lunch. It doesn't look like they have an AYCE option but things might have changed since I was last there. read more

I havent been to this place before and i will not be going again. The service was horrible, i asked a simple question of "how many sashimis would be in the assorted sashimi OVER RICE dish?" They gave out many different pieces of 8 12 16 so i chose 8. The food comes back and its on a big block of ice?? I had to ASK for the rice ?? And there was not even 8 pieces on there? I was more than furious. It seems like they dont even know their own menu. The place was rough didnt look as fancy as i thought it was going to be for the price i paid for 2 dishes. I have tried literally every place that sells sushi in Boise and Meridian and this place beats them all.

Came by again to try the rotary sushi instead of just ordering off the menu and was NOT disappointed. All the plates were delicious, and the sushi chef Yuki kept up awesome banter while making sure to ask my wife and I exactly what we wanted. Because it was pretty slow, he constantly checked in with us about preferences and ingredients to make sure we weren't getting things we didn't like, and I REALLY appreciate that. There was a couple sitting by us that kept asking for more spicy food, and Yuki was doing a phenomenal job getting them progressively more and more spicy items. The waitress were very nice when we spoke to them, but mostly stayed out of the way - I don't know if it's because we weren't sitting at a table. When I asked for a refill though it was brought promptly, so I think when you sit at the sushi island you're more expected to speak up rather than wait to, well, be waited on : ) Again, thank you Yuki for the phenomenal experience and for being so attentive. Service was great as usual, however I've been missing the Thursday boat rotary. We finally went and as excited as we were for rotary, we have to say it's not worth it!!! After reading reviews I should've said ok they can't be lying, but we wanted to experience. 2 pieces per plate at $3 each and small pieces was a disappointment. We ended up ordering from the menu because after 4 plates each we weren't even getting full. We'll probably return for their menu items, but rotary...never again :( read more

Yuki did an amazing job on our rolls tonight - absolutely out of the park with the taste and presentation. I really wish I took a picture of how he set up the rolls but I'm not the "usual" person to take pics so I didn't think about it until after... His were AMAZING though! Absolutely lovely experience overall. My wife loved the "Island Girl" roll and my favorite was the deep fried "Jackpot." We also got the "Sugar Daddy," and while it wasn't the star of the show tonight, was still absolutely delicious - it was a great "refreshing" roll compared to the "heavier" more expensive rolls - hopefully that makes sense : ) We'll be back, thank you Yuki! read more

Unfortunately, this is probably a place we won't be frequenting anymore. The food seems to have gone down in quality. The service was okay but nothing special. We ordered hot tea and a variety of sushi rolls. The sushi wasn't great. We actually left without finishing and didn't take it home. The tea was luke warm to cool. What a major disappointment. First, the help was sleeping on the booth seats when we came in for an early light dinner. We should have said, later! But the real coup de grace was the food. Poorly done. First the good part, the house miso was ok. But from there it went downhill. We ordered an Ebi hand roll and it was not done with a single shrimp, but with Pacific salad shrimp. Ordered some Japanese pickles and the waitress did not know what they were. Oh-Oh. Then we ordered some shrimp tempura with vegetables. Guess what? The shrimp were (it appeared) pre-frozen. panko "battered" medium shrimp. And, and the vegetables were not tempura fried, Just old, tired and naked. Finding good tempura around here is a sorry search. So another strike out for us. Hate to give one star reviews, but this warranted it. read more

Worst service ever!!!! We came to enjoy the boats at prime dinner time Saturday night. Most of the boats were empty for 20 minutes while we sat there watching the empty boats float by. Finally we got about 6 peices each and then back to empty boats. We sat there for another 15 minutes hoping to get refills on drinks and maybe more rolls but nothing. When we left we told the server that we were tired of waiting on more rolls and she told us since they didnt have that many people they were not making more rolls. Very disappointing!!!! read more

Let me start this by saying the service was fine and the chef really seemed to care that I enjoyed my food. I really don't even want to leave a "negative" review, but I feel I should give others an honest opinion of the food. The food tasted and looked like the stuff I got at China Grand Buffet, but I paid the price of Fujiyama. I got the sashimi appetizer plate and two rolls. I was blown away by how small the sashimi appetizer was and equally disappointed with the taste for what I paid. The rolls were the exact same as I have tasted at China Grand. I would honestly go to China Grand, pay half the price, and eat more just to have a better experience. I'm sorry, but there's far better options within just a few minutes drive from here. This is the sister location of the Shige and Shige Express in Boise on 8th. Whats better than Sushi? Trying many different types at once, that's what! Here you can get a plate of sushi for $1. The white plates are $1 and come with 1-2 pieces. The black plates are $2 and also come with 1-2 pieces, but these are more of the nigiri sushi and the more expensive ingredients. You can easily stack up a bunch of plates so in some cases it may be cheaper to order a roll and you can order other things, too, and still grab from the trough of water. There are a few other things that you can get off of the boats, too, such as stuffed mushroom and peppers. I am not too sure what else, if anything. I wasn't there long. You don't have to order it this way, but if you want to try many different types and flavors this is the way to go! Sit down at the semi-circular table and lift plates off the wooden boats that pass you by. Keep in mind if you're one of the first people at the table that everyone around the table has to eat, too, so don't take too many at once-- they'll come back around and you're always first for the fresh stuff. If this isn't your thing, sit at one of the sideline tables and order from the menu. This place is small, but it's an Express-- quick service. AS for the food challenge I mentioned, I/we didn't attempt, but if you eat 55+ plates you get the sushi for free and your photo on the wall (bragging rights!), but if you fail you pay double! Ouch!! I just had the Yuppie roll and it was delicious! When I came to pickup my food the staff was super sweet to me. The lady that served me thanked me for coming and told me that I was giving a salad and miso soup. Both that were giving to me were good. Salad was just salad mix with sauce. Simple but good. I read some of the bad reviews while waiting for my husband to meet me, but I didn't see anything wrong with the restaurant. the lunch menu was a little dirty and could be wiped clean, but that was my only complaint. our dishes were clean, the food was tasty and fresh, and the staff was pleasant. I've picked up several Door dash orders from here before. We usually went to Fujiyama down the street but lately their service has been horrible for dine in as well as for dashers picking up.
