I've had good experience using YELP to find contractors in the past & this was no exception. My house is over 100 years old & requires a lot of TLC to do the job right. I needed to have my all the shingles on my entire roof replaced. There was some tile work, & a small area of flat roof that I had redone the previous year. I was most delighted with my experience using AHI Roofing, Inc. Although the name sounds a bit fishy, it stands for American Home Improvement, and not the Tuna! Michael was wonderful to deal with. His crew were really clean & quiet. I was really surprised by how little noise I experienced. The cleanup was excellent. The job was done in a timely fashion, despite having encountered several hitches, due to the age of my house, & in some cases, unorthodox, construction. I chose Owens Corning TruDefinition Cool Plus shingles. The Golden Meadow color comes closest to matching the terracotta tilework. Owens Corning do have a Terracotta shingle, but it's not acceptable in California, because it doesn't make the grade as to coolness rating. I received a transferable warranty on the shingles. I really like the color. The only problem I encountered was not AHI Roofing, but the people delivering the roofing materials. They used a conveyor to get the materials up onto the roof. That was fine. However, when they started distributing the materials around the roof it sounded as if they were throwing them with no regard for my 100-year-old plaster ceilings. The whole house was shaking violently. I had to go out & as them to be gentler. So be warned. This is something to watch for. In addition, I felt that the cost was reasonable. I had 5 companies give me quotations, so I had a good idea as to the price range I was dealing with. I conclusion, I highly recommend AHI Roofing. read more

First, let me say that I have Contractors in my Family, Carpenters etc, so I grew up learning a lot of different things regarding building a house, what my dad went thru with his subcontractors. My Dad is 87 yrs old, and my uncle is 90 yrs old, way too old to be doing this sort of work anymore. So when their roof on their Pasadena house got damaged from the Santa Ana winds last January 2025, that caused the horrendous fire in Alta-Dena, just a few miles from my uncle's house, the fire destroyed homes as close as just about 3 blocks from their house. Up to 65 mph winds, tore shingles off their roof. Needless to say the Insurance Co came out, and claimed roof damage from the Windstorm. I live 380 miles away but determined to search for a quality Roofing Contractor that was honest, fair, and knew what they were doing. My dad can tell you, not everyone with a license really knows what they were doing. I had 5 Roofing Contractors come out for bids., some didn't measure the house and the separate garage correctly, some bids were thru the Roof (pun), lol, but seriously, about 10k more than the rest. Some were incomplete, didn't specifically list all the details that are required. I chose Mike, AHI Roofing. I called Mike, told him who I was, a Home Builders daughter, that I was a Nurse, and used to being very detailed oriented, and pretty picky, Mike instantly put me at ease, explained what he would do, and give a fair estimate. As soon as he came to my dad's and uncles house, my dad instantly took a liking to Mike., I always had asked them after any contractor came for a bid what their first impression was, since I was so far away. Mike went over everything in detail with them, my dad, still very sharp, does not miss anything, so he relayed the conversation to me, in a speaker phone setting, like a conference call, with my uncle in the background. Mike had everything set up, the timing, the point of check disbursement, the Inspection with the City, absolutely everything. They had to tear off the very old wood shingles that had been overlayed over the yrs, and lay new decking, We even decided to go with a streamlined new gutter system, and new Fascia boards. Very custom looking!! Just so you all know I hardly never write a review, let alone one so long. But if you're still reading, good. You need to. One thing my dad said of Mike's crew: They were all communicating, in agreement, and never ever had a disagreement over anything. Our situation was a little complicated because our homeowners insurance (USAA) wanted us to reroof after wind damage, but they (USAA) only wanted to pay for half the cost of what we were being quoted by multiple roofers. My experience with AHI Roofing was nothing short of spectacular, from start to finish. I obtained estimates from 7 roofers. I was not happy until I met with Mike the owner of AHI Roofing (though I am told that he has a manager, Jonathan, who is excellent, but he was on vacation when I called). Mike and AHI Roofing stood out, far above and beyond the previous 6 roofers. The initial meeting was clear and complete, showing all of the key Owens-Corning products that would be used and why (e.g. the underlayment, Ice and Water barrier and the starter strip). The estimate clearly stated the specific Owens-Corning materials that would be used, and the estimate indicated that I would receive the Owens-Corning Preferred Warranty. Of the 7 roofers I interviewed (several of whom were Owens-Corning Preferred roofers), AHI was the only one that explicitly stated that they would use Owens-Corning underlayment, TruDefinition Duration Cool / Cool Plus shingles with starter strips, Sure-nail technology, and Ice and Water Barrier in the valleys (and he showed the exact materials to me). In contrast, one of the Owens-Corning preferred roofers gave me an estimate that didn't include the Owens-Corning warranty in the initial estimate and said it would be extra! It is difficult to find a trustworthy roofer, but Mike and AHI Roofing are! Utimately, AHI's price was the same or less than other Owens-Corning preferred roofers. Also, there were no subcontractors. The whole roof (3200 square feet) took 4 days, to complete, from tear off to completion. The inspection was a few days later. I keep getting complements on my beautiful new roof! And... I know that that beauty is more than "skin deep" because good materials and methods were used from start to finish. Mike and AHI Roofing went out of their way to address all of my questions/concerns (and I always ask a lot of questions). For example, we discussed where to put the vents and how many. We added 2 vents so the room addition (which is always hot) would have some. Mike showed me where they would go on a photo. Also, I noticed an inconsistency in my eaves. It turns out that previous roofers and handymen had used shiplap instead of tongue and groove when repairing dry rot in the eaves years ago, so there was an existing mix of shiplap and tongue and groove. Even so, Mike and his crew addressed my concern and made the eaves look uniform. And now, I will not have dry rot because the roof has been installed correctly! To top things off, I received confirmation of the Owens-Corning Preferred Warranty on the same day that the inspection was approved! That was one of my questions: When would I receive the warranty information? But Mike is so on top of everything that I didn't even have a chance to ask! Aside from some minor communication issues and the supplier being late my experience with AHI was great. I got a new asphalt shingle roof and it looks great and as of a few rainy days we've had no problems. The price was reasonable and I didn't feel like I was overcharged. I had quotes from other roofers that were 10k over and under what I paid and I think I made the correct choice. Michael and his crew were respectful and courteous. The final day one of the roofers spent a couple hours going around the house cleaning up and making sure everything was clean and no old staples were lying around. And as a bonus they removed an old satellite TV dish and the old-school TV antenna that was on my chimney. The communication issues came from the solar subcontractor not telling AHI about having to move some panels over to maintain the fire break needed on the roof that wasn't done properly by SunRun. That resulted in someone needing to come back out and remove a mounting point for the panels and add some shingles over that spot. Michael has gone above and beyond with helping me coordinate with the city inspector. They found some something unrelated to the roof and solar that I needed to get fixed before the city would sign off on everything being done. He even offered to bring a ladder for when the inspector came back which was nice considering it isn't their responsibility anymore and the inspector will only use extension ladders as a safety rule. They just finished my roof and I can't imagine a smoother tear down and install. I requested a quote from AHI and Michael was out the next day and provided a quote on the spot. I had other companies come out for quotes, too: one ghosted me outright, one ghosted me AFTER coming to inspect/measure, one gave me a very competitive quote but I couldn't shake the feeling that they thought I was a moron (...debatable), and one took more than a week to get me a quote that was clearly an "FU" quote of nearly double all others. Tear down was messy as I had three layers of crumbling asphalt shingles, but that was definitely to be expected AND they did a great job of cleaning up as much as possible without straight up gutting my garage and attic. They replaced a bunch of rotten wood and cleared out 60+ year old debris. All the workers were polite and busting ass the whole time, yet somehow as quiet as you can be with this kind of work.
