    Chicken pho
    Lily D.

On a Saturday night, the wait time for dinner was 75 minutes, but was able to get in about 35-40 minutes. The chicken pho has flavorful broth, and comes with a baby bowl of toppings. You can ask for chili oil, hoisin, and sriracha. Laap Nuea has a lot of great balance of cabbage, tripe, beef, and greens. Love that it comes with sticky rice to balance the flavors out even more. Would definitely recommend this dish

Ahan was a treat! Me and a friend were visiting Madison recently and decided to give it a try. Upon arriving, we were seated right away and were greeted by our server, Maggie. Maggie, who, upon reading through the other reviews, was not looked on favorably previously; we found her to be very kind and accommodating! We placed our orders and the food, despite the restaurant being pretty busy on a Tuesday evening, came very quickly. My friend ordered the pho and thoroughly enjoyed it, and as for myself I had a noodle dish (I forget the name now, but not the drunken noodles) and it was INCREDIBLE! I didn't love the tofu with it personally, but that was, I believe, an ordering mistake. Overall I loved our time at Ahan and I hope to return here soon!

This place was definitely worth the drive from Milwaukee! I knew this place was going to be amazing when there was a 40 minute wait for 2 people on a Wednesday night. We ended up finding 2 spots at the bar top as it was first come first serve. The tapioca pork dumplings were recommended to us by the staff which were AMAZING. The flavor was incredible and I will be dreaming about these. The chicken with the praram long song was so flavorful and wow the peanut sauce was the best I've ever had! I also loved the butter chicken sandwich - I had to try it since I knew it was a rotating special on the menu. The flavors here are just so perfectly melded to create amazing dishes.

So worth the wait! Absolutely wonderful service, inventive menu items, and really tasty food. The cocktail menu is really fun and you're guaranteed to find a good one! It's a little loud, a little dark, and a little crowded, but it lends itself further to feeling like you're experiencing something awesome with the rest of the patrons. The portion sizes stand out - more than enough per entree to have a full meal the next day with leftovers! The bar is pretty small but if you're lucky enough to grab a seat this is a great way to try some apps and a cocktail while you wait for a table. I've heard they purchased a nearby bar to help accommodate their long waitlist and what a great idea, especially if they serve these apps there!

Tried out their new location in the old Candy making building. There is street parking and a few parking lots nearby for businesses that have no restrictions to park there in the evening hours. We arrived at 8 pm and they had switched to their late night menu already so we were limited on what to have but we still enjoyed the beef pho and chicken sandwich. We found the chicken sandwich tasted better with the sauce on the side. It has a great crunch! The pho comes with condiments and toppings on the side. The new digs are spacious with more room to move around and more seating than the old location. I hope to return during their full menu times, so we can try more of their new menu items. Glad to see they were able to expand their tasty fusion selections.

Southeast Asian fusion restaurant with good flavors and a cozy interior, but not very authentic. While the food tasted good, I had an issue with the names of some of the dishes, as they were not authentic to the actual dish. The drunken noodles were disappointing, as I was expecting the traditional spicy, soy based sauce with a strong basil flavor. However the dish had an oddly sweet and sour tomato-like sauce. Our server was very kind and helped us pick our dishes. I enjoyed the various toppings on the Nam Khao Salad, and the fish sauce was a great addition. I also was impressed by the size of the chicken satay and the strong lemongrass flavor.

This my first time at Ahan and promise you its worth the wait. Its delicious Laos cuisine , the ambience is cozy, comfortable and intimate. I loved the bar area too. We ordered from the soup menu - Khao Poon Kathi Dang , Khao Soi Luang Prabang and pad see ew- all super delicious and left us so full. We loved it.

Be prepared for a wait to be seated. But my goodness is it entirely worth it. I was concerned when they told me it would be at least an hour that the food may be all hype. That is not the case here. What did I get? Drunken Noodles- I love drunken noodles but I'm no connoisseur. However I don't know how you perfect this dish any more than what they have done here. Everything this dish is suppose to do (cheer you up, cure a hangover, fill your belly) it does. I couldn't let a drop of it go to waste. Tom Kha- only served on Fri,Sat and I believe Sunday. Normally on a hot and humid day as it was today soup is farthest from my mind. However, the Tom Kha being limited had to be special. And it sure was incredible! Good to the last drop. Service here is also impeccable. We were always attended to but never bothered. It seemed that they knew exactly when to come fill up water, take an order or to interact. This is one of those meals and places that I'll never forget and is good enough to bring me back to Madison

What a great place to visit as an out of towner. I'm in Madison for the long weekend and needed my Lao food fix - found this place and was not disappointed. I got the khao poon w/ roasted chicken and the Thai iced tea. The waiters were very attentive and quick with service. The soup was very tasty and so flavorful. I will need to come back and try some of the other dishes. The inside is super cute!! It does get pretty packed so keep that in mind. I didn't have to wait at all as they had one table left at the time. Highly recommend!!

Group trip to Madison warranted a lovely dinner at Ahan! We tried to come here earlier in the week and the wait was too long but this time, we were prepared and came earlier. As a heads up, we experienced that the wait times were quite a bit longer than the hosts expected, so just be ready for that. Everything we ordered was excellent, and our server was so helpful. Some aspects of service were a little slow but the excellent cocktails, and perfect flavors and textures in every bite of food made up for it! Definitely a top dining destination in Madison and if you love bold flavor and fresh, exciting dishes, it's a must.

What a cute and delicious place. We visited Madison and found this spot and had to give it a try. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was great. Had the drunken noodles and the yellow curry, both were absolutely fantastic. Rich flavor. The papaya salad was nice and limey too. We also couldn't leave without eating all the desserts! Every one was yummy. This place is an absolute gem. If you are ever in Madison and looking for a great Asian spot, look no further.

Waited a little over an hour to eat dinner here on a Saturday night. I ordered the praram long son and it was amazing! It was enough to last for two meals. I also got the mango sticky rice and while the mango was not in season, it was great! It was super loud in there though, but the restaurant was nicely decorated and dimly lit.

I am vegan and I always order the Thai Curry or the Mango Coconut Curry with tofu along with an appetizer of baji (crispy chickpea flower veggie fritters), samosas, or Tibetan dumplings (steamed). The curry is the best I've ever had, so incredibly rich and deep in layered flavor. The tomatoey Nepali style sauce served with appetizers is to die for--salted to perfection and the tamarind sauce is also incredible. Here's a little tip: if you LOVE spicy food, and I mean if you LOVE pain and suffering, ask for a 10 out of 5 spice level. For an appetizer, I had the gyoza, and it was perfect. Evenly fried and steamed, even if it was just frozen stuff from the bag like at the Japanese restaurant I used to work at, it was at least prepared with skill. My main entree was the garlic miso ramen. And while each component worked on its own, all of them put together made it seem less as a whole. My biggest issues were the chashu pork which came out a little overcooked. I know the reason, and probably shouldn't hold it against them, but it reminded me a bit of the overcooked pork of my childhood. The other issue was the broth. It was sweet on the backend, which really didn't do it for me the more I've thought about it. I'm not sure if it was the pork broth or the tare. My suspicion lies heavier towards the tare than the broth, but I could be wrong. Either way, I felt that such noticeable sweetness was out of place especially since it did too much to counter the garlic flavor. I suspect it was there to do that for those who don't like a heavy garlic flavor, but then again, if you don't like garlic flavor, you shouldn't be ordering something labeled as garlic on the menu. I will say that marinating the egg was a nice touch and gave it a depth of flavor that typically isn't there from other ramen places I've tried. Otherwise, it was good overall, it just felt like it didn't completely come together with the sweetness of the broth and the pork being a tad overcooked. Still, despite perhaps not looking like it, Zen Ramen was a solid little ramen shop on the East Side and I would not oppose going back to try some of their other ramen bowls. It might not blow your mind if you're a regular ramen connoisseur, but is still a solid spot if you want something affordable and unpretentious.

We shared several dishes which were all good, but these were the most memorable for me: - Chicken wontons in spicy sauce: wonton filling was seasoned well and the sauce was actually spicy. Most chicken dumplings, wontons, xiao long bao, etc I've tried are under-seasoned so I was very pleasantly surprised. Even more so that the sauce was actually spicy. I love spicy food so it was perfect for me - spicy enough to numb your tongue a little bit but not so spicy it takes over the other flavors. I wouldn't recommend to anyone who can't tolerate spice. - Tofu buns: buns were nice and soft, and tofu was sauced / seasoned well. Again, very happy about that because I've been the victim of too many under-seasoned vegetarian menu items. - Red Revolution cocktail: I'm not a big drinker and prefer cocktails that don't taste super strong. This was delicious but definitely a bit stronger than I'm used to lol. So great value for the money but wouldn't recommend if you have a low alcohol tolerance. When they use the cup sealer it's not sealed properly, sometimes it's got two of the seals, sometimes it's just not sealed on all the way. And then if that's okay well then the straw is too small so every boba bit gets stuck. Oh man but if those two are okay then it's the boba pearls itself. Ahh. Boba is not a new concept for me, I've had my fair share but when the boba is so over cooked that some of it seems to be melted and that as you sip the slush you are also accidentally swallowing the pearls because they're so soft, small, and mushy that you can't even feel it in your mouth until its too late. Completely different from someone swallowing a boba pearl that is firm and round where the moment it enters your mouth and is no longer in the straw you are aware. And because the pearls are so warm, it melts the bottom of your slush. Sure you can swirl it around but it'll still melt the nearby slush. It shouldn't be too warm or borderline hot. If I wanted milk tea I would've just ordered that. And then, on top of all that if if IF all that seems to be fine. It's the wait time. It seems like it takes so long to get your drink if there's people ordering food. Like if you go in and it's a board game meet up, good luck. It's gonna be a half hour for 2 slushy drinks. If they cannot work under the pressure of having to serve their whole space full of people in a board game meet up group, then just say it's for a private event or something. You don't even wait that long at bubbling teapot if you're getting drinks when the nearby schools have just gotten out. Honestly so ridiculous, and I forgot to mention that the taro flavor varies. Sometimes it's good like something you'd get in the PNW and sometimes it's a hint of taro, sometimes it tastes like a mouth full of powder. I'll give it 2 stars because when it's good it's good, but when is it good? Hmm well not when they're in a rush so get there right when they open IF they open on time?

They truly live up to their name "Hot-N-Spicy". The cultural significance of the chili pepper often represents hospitality, warmth, and resilience! They bring all the spice and don't hold back! If you are not used to spice/spicy hot dishes, I suggest you start at level one spice and work your way up. They will ask you on dishes made with chili peppers what spice level you want 1-4 and can even make it hotter also! Hot-N-Spicy is genuinely unique because they offer Issan food dishes and flavors that is uniquely from the Issan/Isan Northeast region of Thailand that is heavily influenced by Lao and Cambodian flavors with the use of heat, fresh herbs, and use of fish sauce that brings different flavors different from other regions of Thailand. Hot-N-Spicy used to be located in the back of the Viet Hoa Market. It is now located next door from the market in a larger space in the same strip mall that allows for a more comfortable sit-down seating experience of a full restaurant. I have tried almost everything on their menu and have never been disappointed! For appetizers, I love their angel wings which are deboned chicken wings stuffed with chicken, carrot, and bean thread noodles fried to pure crispy perfection! Their most popular selling appetizers are their amazingly addictively delicious crab rangoons! Their chicken satay is also a must try! I also recommend trying their beef jerky which is so delicious, it often sells out quickly during the day! Their main entrees are so outstanding, it is hard to order one entree! My absolute favorite that I recommend is their steak Laab which is the best Laab I have had in Madison! It is heavily influenced with Isaan flavors/culture with minced beef, tripe, red onion, cilantro, mint, fresh lime juice, rice powder, fish sauce and scallions. I love the beef steak Laab because it is unlike anything you will ever taste with so much flavor from a combination of flavors with hint of sour with the lime, salty/umami/pungence from the fish sauce, balanced with refreshing different herbs, texture with the tripe, while the toasted rice powder gives this dish a tiny bit of crunch/texture that gives a subtle nutty flavor! This dish is a minced meat salad traditionally eaten with your hands and sticky rice/vegetables like cucumber. I also really enjoy their Pad Thai, Pho, and Crispy Noodle Lad Na! Your visit wouldn't be complete without quenching your thirst with either their Thai iced coffee/tea! Hot-N-Spicy remains at the top of my list for Thai/Lao cuisine! The nem nuong dipping sauce was so good that I ordered extra. I also tried the Panang Red Curry, and it was outstanding. The curry was rich, creamy, slightly sweet, and packed with flavor. I ordered level 1 spice, and it was the perfect amount of heat without overwhelming the dish. The homemade curry paste, coconut milk, basil, peppers, and jasmine rice came together beautifully. It's also been great to see this local business grow. What started as a takeout spot inside Viet Hoa Market has expanded into a larger space on Monona Drive, and it's easy to see why. The food is consistently delicious, the portions are generous, and the new location offers plenty of seating. If you're craving fresh spring rolls, flavorful curry, or simply a great meal, Hot N Spicy is absolutely worth a visit. Added bonus the service was AMAZING!!!

For the folks confused about the menu, everything is best enjoyed getting items from each section instead of all Thai, all Chinese etc. The rangoons were fried perfectly and did well with a dunk in red curry. This was a take out order, but the people working at the front got to me quickly and kindly, and the interior looked really cute.

Really disappointing experience from start to finish. We were told the wait would be about 30…read moreminutes and ended up waiting 90, despite multiple tables waiting to be cleaned for long stretches. The whole seating process seemed incredibly inefficient. We asked if we could at least order appetizers at the bar while we waited and were told no because we were waiting for a table, which was frustrating. Service somehow managed to be both inattentive and overbearing. After we were finally seated, we waited close to 30 minutes while trying to order. Once the food arrived, though, our waiter was suddenly at the table every five minutes asking if everything tasted good (it did not). The menu is enormous, to the point that I genuinely don't understand how a kitchen could execute that many dishes well, especially when so many require different ingredients and preparation. Unfortunately, the food pretty much confirmed that suspicion. The curry was watery and almost completely flavorless. The Pad Thai tasted like ketchup. The duck was poorly cooked. The spring roll with an egg roll inside was tasty, but there wasn't enough filling and it was the only thing we particularly enjoyed. I don't mind waiting for good food, and I don't mind a restaurant being busy. But waiting three times longer than quoted, watching tables sit empty, being unable to order anything while waiting, and then getting mediocre food made this a pretty frustrating experience. I wouldn't come back.
