However, tonight's experience from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM was a level of failure that I cannot stay silent about. Tonight was my daughter's birthday. We came to your restaurant to celebrate, but instead, we spent three hours navigating an ordeal of neglect: Total lack of urgency, we sat for over an hour before our existence was even acknowledged for drink or food orders. This isn't just "slow service"; it is a total breakdown of floor management. The birthday disappointment, my daughter was incredibly excited about the traditional birthday well-wishes. Despite being promised this by the staff, and despite other tables receiving attention, she was completely ignored. To make matters worse, the other party sharing our grill--who was also celebrating a birthday--was similarly forgotten. Watching the excitement fade from a child's face on her birthday is something a parent doesn't easily forget. Service incompetence, when food finally arrived, it was incorrect, requiring further delays. To end the night, we waited another 30 minutes for a check that never came. Both parties at our grill eventually had to physically stand up and hunt down a staff member just to pay our bill so we could finally leave. Dismissive management, when I attempted to voice these concerns to the manager, the response was cold and unhelpful. There was no attempt to validate our experience or acknowledge the disappointment caused to a loyal, long-term customer. I want to be very clear: I am not seeking a refund, a discount, or a gift card. I am writing this because I want to be heard. Tonight, Ah-So didn't just serve a bad meal; you turned a young girl's birthday celebration into a three-hour lesson in being ignored. I loved ah so, I've gone since I've moved to Yuma, but the service is very poor and working at a restaurant in the past, our management trained us with discipline to be the best for our customers. Going to ah so alone on my birthday was not it. I just wanted to enjoy a self dinner date, I felt very unwelcomed, there was no host at the stand for more than 5 mins, and after being sat, it took the server 10 minutes to get to my table. My husband and I went to Ah-So while in town this past weekend after a family get together on Saturday night. We got there around 9:10 PM. There were quite a few open tables. We were given the drink and food menu plus a special menu for unique sushi rolls. When I asked for the regular sushi menu they provided that too. My husband and I were happy to indulge in the saki bomb special. It was a great experience over all! I'd recommend this place to anyone who likes sushi and is in yuma for the weekend. Oh Yuma was well worth the drive from El Centro!! This establishment was excellent from the service to the food. The proportion size was out of this world and I truly couldn't finish my meal in on sitting. Our cook was super entertaining as well. Overall experience was very nice and even intimate. Don't know who told the people on this side of the country about seasonings but hey keep it up I loved the flavors that tantalizingly touched my palette. A group of my friends wanted to eat here and invited me to join them. They gave me a few days notice so I could contact the restaurant and see if Ah-So could accommodate me with gluten free options. I had seen a comment on FB that they did indeed have gluten free items. I waited until after the lunch rush and drove into Yuma to go in person to look at the menu and speak to an employee. I walked in around 2:15-2:20 I believe. I stood at the front desk to wait for someone to speak to. There were three ladies seated at one table and either a couple or perhaps foursome seated towards the back. I thought it was pretty slow for a Friday afternoon especially since most of the restaurants I passed to get there had full parking lots. I saw a young waiter and a young waitress both probably in their mid-late 20's. Both absolutely saw me standing there at the reception area by the front door. I had grabbed a menu and was perusing it but I kept looking up to see if someone was coming to help me. Every time I would see them it was obvious they were both trying to avert their gaze. The waiter started bussing the only used table which had few dishes like it had been a 1 or 2 top. He went out of his way to take an extra long way through the back so he didn't have to address me. By this time both servers had seen me but when I tried to flag them down they would avert their eyes and not acknowledge me.. There was also a young man in the back that kept leaning out of what looked to be a kitchen window, looking at me every few minutes. He was probably wondering why I had been standing there so long. This went on for at least 10-15 minutes. A couple came in behind me. They waited a few minutes, looked over the menu on the wall then left since no one acknowledged me or them. Finally when the waiter couldn't avoid it any longer he came to the front and asked "if anyone had helped me", no smile at all and he was acting totally inconvenienced. I said, "no" so he snatched a menu and starts walking away to seat me. I told him I was just there to find out if they had gluten free options for the next day (Saturday lunch) when I wanted to come back with a group of friends. He said, "no not really" but when I politely said I had seen people on Facebook saying they ate gluten free there he finally said that maybe one or two of the sushi rolls could be gluten free. He acted very put out and definitely treated me as if I were a huge imposition on his day, they virtually had no customers but the three ladies that were seated up front never got checked on while I was standing there which was "awhile". The waitress had taken something small to the table in the back so at least they got some type of service. The waiter did finally say that the menu I was holding wasn't what was served on Saturdays that they only serve off the dinner menu on Saturdays. I said ok, "I'll tell my friends I'm going to skip this one since there's nothing I can eat". At that point he says, "well the kitchen can use gluten free soy sauce to make your food". I then asked if I needed to bring my own unopened bottle of GF soy sauce and he says, "no, they keep some in the back". This is all after I had directly asked if any of the entrees were gluten free or could be made gluten free, to which he had answered "no". I will say the food I smelled from the kitchen did smell good, but such a weird and very unfriendly vibe from all the employees makes me understand why they had so few customers. When I left, I texted my friends that I'd be unable to join them the next day and relayed what happened. My friends decided to skip the restaurant they had been excited to try because of how I was treated. My one friend even said while she was perfectly fine with spending $60-90 on lunch, she was not willing to spend that for poor service. Two of my friends have lived in Japan and were really craving Sushi and steak but everyone decided to skip it so we could go someplace with friendly service, where I could eat without a hassle. read more

After being sat, our server never came to greet us or take drink orders. We set a timer on the phone to see how long it would take because we've experienced this before and it took 15 minutes and still not a single person came to the table so we walked out. On our last visit the server was sweet but she rarely came to the table and our timer reached over 30 minutes before she came back to check on us! We hadn't gotten refills the entire time because we weren't checked on and I wanted to just pay and leave but that took forever too. We had to flag down the host to go find our server because it had been so long. The food is good, but too expensive for the service to be that bad. I don't think I'll ever go back. The only teppanyaki in Yuma. Went for my daughter's bday and had a great time. They don't take reservations, yet they allow call ahead which was great. We arrived and was seated quickly as our party arrived together. They had a good sushi which we enjoyed prior to the chef arriving. The teppanyaki chef was wonderful, funny and what we expected. Omar, our sushi chef, was definitely a Master of his craft. He made recommendations, which were incredible. He was attentive and knowledgeable...he went above and beyond in the line of customer service. Highly recommend the Sunset Roll, the Fire House Roll and the Dancing Spider Roll. My wife had visited Ah-So previously and had a great experience, so she chose to return with our family for her birthday. We went on a relatively quiet Wednesday and, to get the full hibachi experience, our party of six opted to sit at the grill. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse. Our chef performed the usual hibachi tricks--big flame, egg in the hat, and the onion volcano--well enough. However, halfway through cooking, he turned around and sneezed right into a dish rag, loudly and messily, right in front of us. My family and I were stunned. After confirming that we had all seen the same thing, I immediately spoke with the host, who called for the manager. The manager responded quickly, escorted the chef to the back, and offered to bring out a new chef. By then, we had already been seated for over an hour, and starting over wasn't really an option. The original chef returned from the kitchen, now wearing gloves, and continued to cook, but the mood had been completely ruined. Both the chef and our family were visibly uncomfortable for the remainder of the meal. To make matters worse, it was my wife's birthday, which the staff had acknowledged when we first sat down. Yet, they didn't mention it again until we were about to leave. The food itself was okay, but after everything that happened, we will not be returning. The manager never offered us anything off the meal, nor did she come back to apologize. Adding to the frustration was the mandatory 18% gratuity for our party size, which I would have been fine with if it had gone solely to our waitress, who was fantastic. I love teppanyaki! That being said, I'm skeptical about Yuma teppanyaki, lol. Before spending the big bucks on the griddle, we dedicated our first Ah-So visit to sample their dinner menu. To share, we ordered some sushi. Familiarize yourself with all the sushi in the world, for you won't get any hints from their online menu. The "vegas roll" sounds interesting; I wonder what it looks like. In any case, we got whatever is pictured -- I think it was called the cilantro roll. You can see the fresh salmon with some embellishments on top. Overall, it was pretty decent sushi. The fiancée ordered katsu chicken, and I got the seafood yakisoba (pictured). My entree was the better choice, for the katsu was much too dry. They didn't hold back on the rice, which I commend, but we're here for the proteins, man. Ironically, we probably would've spent the same amount of money for teppanyaki, so maybe we should've just done it. But, we did not, and we didn't feel like we got our money's worth either. An aesthetic complaint: At one point, as I prepared to charge the facilities, I was unable to stand up! My shoes were stuck to the floor. I haven't been in Ah-So since prom night which was many moons ago (I am a lady so don't ask how many) so while I was in town my family and I stopped in for lunch. I find in Yuma that a lot of places have hit-or-miss service but I was impressed with the service at Ah-So. Our waiter got caught up with a large party and the other server that was working stepped in to wait on us without missing a beat. The food itself was good but not outstanding. I ordered the Korean BBQ bento box and enjoyed it but there were some little bits of bone in the beef (not the traditional bone in the middle just little slivers) so I did have to eat with care. Everything else that came with the bento box was great though, I especially enjoyed the eggroll and gyoza. Made a call-ahead seating and got quickly sat down in a booth in front of the bar but waited more than 20mins before our waitress realized we were sitting at one of her tables. Not one of the other waiters who were serving the other tables next to us made eye contact and seemed like they were deliberately walking the other direction to avoid crossing in front of our table for us to flag them down (we were in the middle booth of the row). We were looking up other places to go to instead when she finally came around to grab us some waters and then take our orders. The food portions are more than generous and enough for two. I had the seafood yakisoba and my bf got the beef bowl which were both delicious. We had the egg rolls and some sushi rolls. The sushi was okay and the egg rolls seemed heavy with the celery.
