I'd have to say that given the reviews, this place doesn't live up to the hype. The interior seems a little cluttered and I couldn't tell if it's dirty, or just a little unkempt. We ordered and waited unusually long for a simple teriyaki bowl so I figured that it would be fantastic given the wait and the reviews. The combo plate, chicken and beef, with rice and salad. The salad was fresh and good, the house dressing is pretty darn good. Sadly, after the salad it was downhill. I didn't really enjoy the chicken or the beef. They were both a little off putting in their own right. Neither seemed like they were unfresh, but just had an odd taste. With enough soy and sriracha sauce I was able to make it through my lunch, my buddy I came with ate about 1/4 of his chicken and pushed the bowl away and declined to finish his lunch. Food wasn't great, place is a little run down, wait time is long. It's gonna be a one and done for me. read more

Always try to help support the local small businesses when I'm out traveling for business. Unfortunately the food was not good. Chicken and beef seemed old/Microwaved and not Fresh and very bland. Sorry fellow Yelpers, I'm not feelin' this spot even though most of you are raving about it. I'm an incredibly positive person, so I will start with what was good. The chicken seemed high quality and the woman running the place was friendly. See how positive I am? I should write motivational posters for a living. Hang in there you silly cat! Now the truth. Portions are small, the flavors are bland and the wait time might kill you. How is teriyaki sauce flavorless? There was a woman who came in just after me and had called in her order so she wouldn't have to wait. She was still sitting there waiting after I got my food. I waited at least 15 minutes. We were the only 2 people there. If I were her I would have turned into the hulk and ripped the place apart. You know, if the hulk was passive aggressive and just wrote unflattering Yelp reviews. I get that they are trying here, but them trying doesn't necessarily make it a good experience. It's just all kind of a mess. The place is run down, the food wasn't particularly good, the wait wasn't lose to worth it. When I finish a meal really wishing I hadn't bothered, it's not going to get more than 2 stars from me. I love this place. Authentic Japanese food in Yuma. It's now ran by one of the owners and she's amazing person and the food is amazing too. She remembers my son and I every time we come in. It can be months since I come in and she still remembers. Very friendly. It's a pretty quiet, chill place to eat. There's only about 4 tables so not much noise going on. Small spot in a strip mall. The food is very well cooked but that means it takes a bit longer to get your order so don't be in a hurry. Had the salmon plate with salad. Salmon. Cooked well but a bit on the thin side. Salad was crisp and fresh with a vinegrette dressing. Also had the chicken and beef bowl. Chicken was good but the beef had no flavor was not that appetizing. "Hole in the wall" establishment. Very nice lady "manning" the front. Long story short, I ordered the chicken/beef combo. The thinly sliced beef tasted like it was microwaved and served a day later. It was unpleasantly bland. The chicken however fared well. Charred and smoky, matched well with the Teri sauce. Veggies not over cooked and tasted fresh and crisp. Went in about an hour before closing, no one but the nice lady behind counter. She took our order chicken/beef teriyaki plate and a chicken teriyaki plate. My companion enjoyed their meal especially the thick sauce, but said the chicken looked old. I did not like the meats at all! The chicken was dry and the beef was sooo thin & overcooked it looked like tiny pieces of beef jerky. I could only muster the stomach to eat the white rice and mixed vegetables. The restaurant is owned by a Korean family where they mainly serve teriyaki dishes, along with Kimchi, bulgogi, and yakisoba. I ordered chicken and beef combination platter with steamed vegetables. The beef was super dry with the texture was closer to being jerky, instead of tender meat. However, the chicken was delicious and had a lot of flavor. My friend ordered the bulgogi and it was delicious with japchae noodles. It's a small restaurant with four to five tables available for seating. Craving a light, bright meal and impressed with the Yelp reviews, I found myself here as I was passing through Yuma. It's a wonderful divorce from deep-fried trauma foods. The space is inconspicuous. Located in a decades old strip mall, it is nondescript. The same goes for the interior. With only four tables, a ceiling fan and water cooler in the back, the place lacks any kind of discernible personality. That is, until you get a chance to enjoy the food. Menu items are priced at $10 and below, which is both welcome and shocking given the freshness and flavor and serving sizes. The salmon and shrimp combo will likely be the thing that I crave while passing through Yuma in the future. Served with teriyaki sauce, but not drowning in it, the salmon is rich and soft. The four shrimps are served on skewers atop the salmon. The combo comes with a decent size salad. The Romain butts were no fun, but I especially love the house made dressing, which is a beautiful blend of garlic and ginger. I recommend a visit. read more

While it is nice on a multi-week work trip to Yuma to have a momentary break from all of the amazing Mexican food, Charki's doesn't quite knock it out of the park. I had a chicken and beef plate with steamed vegetables and avocado. The beef was dry and leathery, and it's clear they're not using a high quality source for their beef. The chicken was good. The rice was good. The vegetables are nothing to write home about, but that's exactly what I expected from steamed vegetables. I do think I would come back, but I'd probably just get a bowl instead of a plate, and I'd definitely skip the beef. read more

It's a small little hole In the wall type place with some delicious made to order teriyaki. If you're in a rush don't even come by. My only complaint is how long it took to get our meals after we ordered but we weren't in a rush. I did notice they received a bunch of phone take out orders while we were there so that seems like a better option. I ordered the large beef/chicken with extra chicken and avocado. It came with a side salad and rice that was pretty good also. Everyone in my party enjoyed their meals but they did take a lot longer than expected to get our maps out. read more

After reading the reviews I expected a bit more.. it was good, but didn't blow me away. I had the beef and chicken plate which came with rice and a salad. Nice sized portion for $9.00. The chicken was very nice.. moist, properly cooked, came with extra teriyaki sauce which I found to be not too sweet. The beef came in strips and was charbroiled.. some pieces were super nice and crispy, others I'd have to say were overcooked and a bit dry. Pretty solid meal. Nice little find in Yuma. read more

Needed somewhere to eat that wasn't gross fast food while driving to Phoenix. This place hit the spot. Taste was great, fulfilled a craving, and definitely tasted homemade. Had the half beef, half chicken and tried the salmon and shrimp as well. So good! Would come through again even if not directly off the freeway. It is worth the 2 mile drive into Yuma. I was in Yuma on work and I needed something a little healthier than the greasy Mexican food I had eating every day, so I stumbled into Charki's. I got the Salmon & Veggie plate for $9 and it's absolutely delicious (see my photo). The salmon is meticulously prepared, the rice is perfectly sticky, and the veggies are steamed to the perfect level of crispness. Just enough teriyaki sauce is drizzled onto everything. The order took a while (about 15 min) because everything is made from scratch. The wait didn't bother me at all, especially after the deliciousness that followed! The quality and presentation of the food here (even in a takeout container) is what you'd expect at a restaurant that costs at least twice as much.
