Actually, the white substance came from something hot sitting next to it and melted the knob. You probably ask, "how can that be with a new, metal knob?" Actually that was my exact question. News flash: The knob was made out of plastic. It looks like stainless steel and you could not tell for how much we paid for the stove top that it was plastic. However, all those knobs are plastic. Fortunately, Steven tracked down two of the knobs...we replaced one and have one in reserve. I suppose it's no different than the evolution of cars. We went from cars made from steel to cars made from fiberglass. There is even plastic in car interiors these days. Many high-end cars no longer have leather. It's called other things but is faux leather (vegan leather, sustainable leather, vinyl leather and pleather). Many cars have "vegan" versions of expensive materials like wood and leather. The knob has been replaced. The stove top is back to it's original state. Steve always performs at a very high level and we have been pleased with his service.

The first guy had quoted $1200 for the repair. Real Appliance Repair looked at the refrigerator and quoted $200 less but also pointed out that while the refrigerator itself only had a 1 year warranty, the compressor causing the issue might still be covered. He suggested I call LG before doing anything else. I called and the compressor was under warranty with parts and labor fully covered! Not only was the quote $200 less than the original company, Real Appliance Repair pointed me in the direction that will get things repaired at no cost to me. Literally saved me $1000! I live in a complex that regularly uses Fixed's services. My HOA asked if I would agree to have employees from Fixed come into my unit to investigate a leak in the unit 2 floors below. After making arrangements to be home for the appointment, they had to reschedule. I wasn't able to rearrange my schedule again and so made arrangements for a building staff member to let the employees in and stay with them throughout the visit. The staff member reported to me that they ran my washing machine and paused the cycle around a dozen times and concluded that the leak was not coming from my unit. My washing machine never worked again after that. My property manager contacted Fixed to ask them to come look at my machine. They refused. She asked them to reconsider and they sent an email saying they would send someone out, but that if they determined it wasn't their fault, I would have to pay for "it". I assumed they meant a new washer, not the visit itself. The email was full of typos and grammatical errors - not exactly clear communication. I assumed this was a courtesy visit since I let them into my unit as a courtesy and they are the preferred vendor for my complex. I had a GE technician come out who said there is no way to prove that Fixed didn't break my machine. A couple months later I got a bill for $85 from Fixed for their visit. This after spending nearly $1,000 between a new washing machine and the GE technician visit where it was confirmed it would be more expensive to repair than replace my washer. Not only am I and the building staff member fairly certain they broke my machine, now they are charging me. My property manager went back and asked them to drop the charge and they refused. Talk about salt in the wound.
