Even though there was a bit of a line when we arrived, they took our order pretty quickly, which I appreciated because I came in starving. When the food came out, I'd describe the burrito as top-tier drunk food in the best way possible. The meat and cheese melted together perfectly, and the tortilla was soft and fresh -- definitely something I look for in a burrito. My husband ordered the vegan nachos and said they were really good too. According to him, they were "cheesy to the tea." The service here honestly stood out the most to me. I had ordered a drink and completely forgot about it at the front. When our food came out, one of the staff members noticed and brought it over to me, saying, "Hey, you forgot your drink." I had to laugh because I genuinely forgot all about it from being so hungry. Small gesture, but I really appreciated not having to get back up and grab it myself. The inside was packed, but I luckily managed to grab a seat. Even though it stayed busy the whole time, I noticed people were constantly coming in and out pretty quickly while we were eating, so the turnover seemed fast and efficient. Ambiance: it's tight and packed inside but doesn't bother me at all when ur hungry

We were having a graduation party for my nephew who graduated from Cal and expecting 80 people and had ordered a taco truck which was terrific, until 150 people showed up and the taco truck ran out of food halfway through the party. Montecristo Taqueria to the rescue! I quickly ordered trays of chicken, beef, carnitas, and veggies and several large containers of guacamole (we had plenty of leftover tortillas, chips, salsa from the taco truck), and a few guys went over to pick it up within half an hour, party saved! Quality of meats were very high and the guacamole excellent! Wonderful customer service. Thank you Montecristo!

With busy days, we were looking for something open after 9p, and this spot had late hours...I believe until midnight! With drink specials and complimentary chips, we liked the sound of that. We had a vegetarian eater in our group and they loved having a variety of healthier and palate pleasing options. We ordered a chorizo quesadilla, chicken nachos, and a veggie enchilada plate. Drink-wise, they have beer/wine and yummy sangria. So of course we went with a pitcher of the sangria :) The portions were large and ample. Food was solid. Staff were friendly, plenty of indoor seating, a small adjacent parking lot and exterior street parking. Quick service, order at register and grab a number upon finding a table. Prices fair.

I think I just discovered my favorite restaraunt of all time in Berkeley. Though the exterior of…read morethe restaraunt is unassuming, and the building itself is quite small with limited seating, the interior is still very clean and neat, and the workers are very nice. I placed an online order for the C Chicken Momos and the Garlic Cheese Naan, which were both phenomenal. The naan was some of the best I've ever had. It was so fluffy, thick, and pillowy soft, and was not overly charred/thin or too crispy like other naan. Just pure doughy goodness. There was also a perfect amount of cheese filling--enough that you got the subtle kick of milky acidity, but not too overpowering. The naan itself was also not too greasy, and the garlic flavor was very aromatic. You could also taste a hint of the slight tartness from (I'm assuming) the yogurt used to make the naan. The "C" Chicken Momos came with eight large pieces, which is definitely enough to fill you up. The sauce tasted like a classic sweet-and-sour sauce with a very mild and pleasant spice. Also, because the dumplings were fried, they were crispy despite being covered in sauce, but still had a bit of the nice chew you would get from a steamed momo skin. The fillings themselves were also super flavorful: you get a herbal and fresh taste from the ginger, which balanced the tanginess of the sauce so the meal did not feel too heavy, and the subtle nuttiness and pepperiness of cumin in each bite. The dumplings also had some warm broth in them, which is perfect for a cold day. The prices are fair too. You can often find small discounts on Snackpass or delivery apps like GrubHub. Needless to say, I will definitely be coming back. Totally recommend!

I discovered "Cal Gyros Mediterranean Cuisine" on Uber Eats. My wife and I were in North Oakland,…read morenear Berkeley, and wanted food delivered for a late-night dinner. Cal Gyros was featured near the top of the app, under the section "Healthy options to explore," based on our location and what was open at the time (a Thursday at 10:09pm). We were hungry and the menu and pictures of the food looked good enough to me. I ordered the following for us (descriptions from menu): * Lamb and Beef Gyros Sandwich ($14.95) - slow-cooked, thin-sliced, marinated lamb and beef gyros * Chicken Gyros Sandwich ($14.95) - slow-cooked, thin-sliced, marinated chicken * Cacik Appetizer ($8.95) - homemade yogurt with diced cucumbers, oregano, fresh dill and a hint of garlic After the cost of food ($38.85), I paid a $6.97 service fee, $3.99 tax, $2.00 for California driver benefits, and a $7.62 tip. The $0.99 delivery fee was waived because of a promotion. The total cost was $59.43. Roughly a third of that was due to Uber Eats. There were multiple delays. It took about an hour for the food to be delivered. To get to us from Cal Gyros was an 11-minute drive under usual traffic. I think the delay was with the restaurant and not caused by the driver because I saw the driver had to wait at the restaurant for an extended period of time. I know the driver has nothing to do with Cal Gyros, the business, but I just want to mention here that he (Axel) was super nice when handing off the order to me outside. As for the food itself, it was disappointing. The sandwiches (wraps) were filling, but that was about it. The quality of the ingredients wasn't great, especially the pita. The pita for the wraps was thin, hard, and bland. At least they were grilled. The cacik also came with pita. There were five, maybe six, Kronos-brand pita triangles in a Kronos bag. I think that pita may have been grilled too; it was hard for me to tell. The lamb, beef, and chicken gyros were flavorful enough, but they were far from the best gyros I've had from many similar hole-in-the-wall joints over the years. The Chicken Gyros Sandwich was very watery and messy to eat. The Lamb and Beef Gyros Sandwich was definitely the better of the two. I don't remember the other ingredients inside the wraps except for lettuce and perhaps onion and tomato. The cacik was fine. Cacik is the Turkish version of Greek tzatziki. Cal Gyro's cacik was cold, creamy, and refreshing. It was noticeably stronger tasting and more sour than tzatziki. Cal Gyros is located at Durant Center, colloquially referred to as the "Asian Ghetto," just south of UC Berkeley's main campus and surrounded by many of the school's buildings. It's one of several small restaurants, most of which are Asian, located in a U-shaped building with communal outdoor picnic-table seating in the middle. Some of the restaurants have their own dedicated seating inside, including Cal Gyros. The storefront sign says: "Best California Gyros." This place is open until 2am daily, so that's a plus.
