Outside after existing door was ripped out
Cherry M.

I came home Saturday night to my existing door dog completely torn out. It was incorrectly installed by a friend about 10 years ago but we've really been limping it along the past 3 years. I was just waiting for it to completely give out and Saturday was the day! I called Doug on Sunday and he texted me immediately asking me to call me back. He did in just a few minutes. I explained my issue and sent him pics of the existing hole in my wall. He asked me to take measurements and said it would be $639. I thought that was fair as just the door online is $300+. He said he could come out the next day or Wednesday. I WFH and like I said had a huge open hole in my house so asked he come today. His arrival time was between 2-3pm. He texted me about 2pm and said he was 35 min away. The whole install is took about an hour and I couldn't be happier with the results. I don't have to think about my damn dog door anymore!! Adulting WIN!!! And it comes with a 10 year warranty. I feel confident if anything happens I can just give him a call. Doug was incredibly nice and I would highly recommend.

Doug was amazing to work with! He talked through all my needs, made recommendations on where it would work best, and did excellent work. The door looked great, there was no damage to the wall, and my pups love it.

We have had our door for 8 years. After several dogs have rocketed in and out of it, we finally have to replace our flaps! It has held up beautifully under some crazy pups!

Door looks clean both inside and out. Nicely centered under the window we wanted it under

Newly installed doggy door. We'll finish the trim work ourselves.

My wife and I wanted to replace our original doggy door and researched several local companies for via online reviews. We selected three companies here in the East Valley for bids. We contacted Doug, the owner of Affordable Pet Doors via text and provided photos of our current set up. In order to better assess our situation, Doug made an appointment to stop by personally to give us a bid. Our meeting went very well with Doug as he presented us with several options that would best fit our needs. He did inform us that we'd need to finish the trim work (stucco & paint) which was not a problem for us. Additionally, his bid was almost $200 less than the closest competition using the identical brand of doggy door. The next day, we contacted Doug and informed him he was our guy. He offered us several installation dates and we decided to go with a Saturday morning installation. When Saturday morning arrived, Doug was right on time as promised. Our dogs took to him (dogs are such good judges of character!) and that reinforced what we already felt about him. For the installation, Doug brought an extensive collection of necessary tools (17 years in the business!) including one that really fascinated us, an electric tin snipper that made short work of the trimming needed for the adjustment fitting and installation of the tin/aluminum box frame which we thought was pretty cool! Within an hour, he'd finished the job and cleaned everything up. My wife and I were both impressed! We're glad that we were glad that we were able to do business with a local company (heck, we found out he lives just several miles from us!), which provided us with excellent quality work and product as well, and at a great price. Our thanks to our new friend Doug! Hook 'em Babee!!

I would not recommend this business. When I asked the owner, Doug Mason, what could be done to remedy the poor installation, he got rude with me and then blocked my number. Definitely not satisfaction guaranteed as his website states and does not stand behind his work - BEWARE! Totally NOT worth $709 and not an honest businessman. I told the owner that I had a small 15lb dog as well as medium sized dogs and therefore wanted the door installed as low as possible so that my little dog didn't have to jump. He assured me that he would do this and advised he could even cut down into the baseboard (as one client picture shows on his website). When he completed the work the door is 2" above my baseboard and not level. It is ever so slightly crooked but I can tell, especially because it is directly next to my back door and trim- which IS level and he also moved an electrical outlet over a few inches to make room and it is more crooked than the dog door. Overall, just not aesthetically pleasing and my little dog needs a step outside which looks very ugly on my Saltillo tile patio and a door mat inside to prevent her from slipping on the tile inside the house. Also, the door manufacturer shows that the door should be taped before caulking and yet Doug got silicone caulk all over my interior wall which is going to cause a headache when I try to paint the room in the future.

Just recently had a door installed, very impressed with the end product. Installation was professional and thorough

I really am someone who does not write reviews (I felt it necessary to download the yelp app just for this one). I needed a dog door in my new house and used reviews on yelp and google in my search. I went with Affordable pet doors because even though I am capable of such a project some of my projects end up looking like the end product I got from affordable pet doors. The picture will speak for itself. The installer did something I would probably do, but that is why I hired an expert. The installer should have realized that the requested location would have cut into my window stucco pop outs and advised to move the install further down the wall. Instead the installer just installed the door and cut out my pop outs outside. The door could have just been moved to the next gap between studs 16" further as the there was plenty of room inside and out. Now I am stuck with how to fix this eyesore outside and pay someone else to fix it. Also because of this location I could not use the included top hood that goes across the top of Hale Pet doors.

Doug recommends this product to clean the doggie door flap.

Ask the Community - Affordable Pet Doors

Hi, do you service north Scotsdale area? Scotsdale and Dixileta?

I don’t. If you call Hale Pet doors at 623-931-7979 they install doors in your area.

Hi, our house is Stucco and we are located in Mesa, az in Lehi crossing. Our pup is a girl, but the door would also be used by our 5 year old Male jack russell?

Collene, are you looking to put your pet door through an exterior wall? If so, is it wood frame with stucco? Is your baby male or female? Where are you located?

Hey Doug do you have messaging? Or is there an easier way to set this up? My dog is roughly 20" tall and we are in North Mesa. Looking for an in wall doggie door.

You can call or text me at 480 227-8805.

Hey Doug I need a pet door installed into Stucco, prob about a large, my dog is a lab shepherd mix about 40 pounds..how much would that run?…

Melissa, how tall is your dog from the top of the back to the floor? Where are you located?

Hi! We're moving to an area that unfortunately, has scorpions. I've read they can crawl through dog doors. What are my options here? Do you install dog doors with RFID technology? Thanks for your help!

I install the Hale brand pet door which in not an electronic pet door. The Hale pet door has magnets built into the flaps and the frame for a real tight seal on both flaps. Also, there is weather stripping between the flaps and the frame to keep the…

I would like a quote to enlarge an existing doggie door that is built "IN" to the house vs in to a door. The existing doggie door, for lack of a more accurate description, is surround by the brick house. Can someone quote me a price to enlarge it?

Jenna, I no longer install doors into block walls. If you contact Hale Pet Doors at 623 931-7979 they install into block walls and will take great care of you. Good luck!…

Update: I don't always remember to check in when I come here…read morebecause with my two pups it's a whole palaver getting them out/in, but my reviews are consistently five stars! The wonderful Andrea and Toni at reception are such great ambassadors for 4 Paws: always smiling, helpful, and give the true vibe of a well-run and fun place for the dogs. Their bi-weekly "pawties" are such a great day with food and photos, socializing with other dogs while playing, and coming back home all happy and exhausted :) When I go away for more than a couple days I like to call in and ask how my two are doing, because even knowing they're happy and safe my dog mom heart misses them so much. Andrea and Toni will call me if there's anything not routine, for example Mimzy is a little stress bucket so often won't eat the first day: they will assess, add a bit of wet food and everything is all good. On the rare occasion when one of them (Mim usually but Tuck too) may have a loose stool they will call to make sure it's ok to add the wet food or see if there's other options I use at home. The grooming station is visible from the reception so you can watch how the dogs or cats are well taken care of. They have a good selection of toys for sale, doggie biscuits, and some fun cards for all occasions as you come in. 4 Paws is friendly, very well run by the Andrea and Toni team, and the other staff I don't always see as they're 'behind the scene' but I know they too care and love the four-legged guests The ambiance as you enter is either very quiet or as other pups are being dropped off / picked up their furballs and it's a place where laughter and good vibes are plentiful. Thank you 4 Paws !

For the groomer Tori. If I could put 0 stars I would. I am extremely disappointed with my…read moreexperience here. I took my moms dog to the groomers and specifically requested black spots on my dog's white coat, and instead, my dog was returned to me with green and blue coloring throughout his fur. I was told that the dye "changed colors," which is incredibly concerning and not an acceptable explanation when someone is paying for a specific service. What makes this even more frustrating is the unprofessionalism surrounding the situation. If you are not experienced or confident in performing a particular coloring service, you should not take on that task and experiment on someone's dog. I would have much rather been told upfront that this was not a service they were experienced in than have my dog come home looking completely different from what I requested. Mistakes can happen, but what matters is how a business handles them. I was disappointed to find that there was no reasonable effort to refund the service or properly correct the problem. I should not have to pay for a service that was not performed as requested, nor should I be left responsible for figuring out how to fix someone else's mistake. I trusted this groomer with my dog, and unfortunately, that trust was not respected. If you offer a specialized service, you need to have the proper experience and knowledge to perform it safely and correctly. And if something goes wrong, you should take responsibility for it and make it right. I would strongly recommend being very clear about the groomer's experience with creative coloring before allowing them to perform this type of service on your pet.

Before I post my review, I'll give some background on my dog's experience thus far. We had never…read moreboarded nor doggie day cared our dog before this visit. She does regularly go to the dog park and is always around when we have my large extended family over; with age ranges from infants to elderly, with no issues. We also take her hiking and to local outdoor festivals, again with no issues with humans or dogs. We scheduled to have our 18lb Basenji mix (rescue) female, Harper to have a doggy daycare & boarding while we moved. It was for one full day, one overnight, pick up in the evening the following day. We dropped her off, she was apprehensive which was understandable. I felt comforted in knowing that there would be updates and pictures on the app as specifically stated on the website. I received an email around 11a stating that her intake form had an update. I called to find out what the update was and to find out how she was doing. The front desk person who answered said that she didn't know details but that it meant that she failed the meet & greet with the other dogs, and would only have 30 min outside with additional 1 on 1 time (about 15 min) with a human. I said ok, i expected to see an update on the app along with pictures and there weren't any. They said that they would probably update the app later in the day. I called again around 5:30p to get an update, and ask how the rest of the day went as there were no updates on the app. She didn't supply any new info only the same info as before. At that point, I went in to pick her up. I was introduced to the manager Deon who was very apologetic about the experience that I had thus far. He gave me a tour of the facility and talked with me about why she failed the test. He said that she was growling at the humans who would approach her. I apologized and explained all that we expose her to, and that it's out of character for her. I told him that I felt better about having her return the next day. Deon gave me his personal # and said that he would personally work with her. I didn't ask for any type of discount but expected better with app updates & pictures. She came to our new home that night and went back for daycare around 8:30a the next day. She wasn't happy to be dropped off again with her tail tucked under. It was a huge difference with communication that day. Lots of pictures & videos on the app! It showed our Harper happily playing with humans and other dogs. When I picked her up that evening, she was happy and had a much different demeanor. Deon made all the difference with his personalized approach. We look forward to having her attend doggie daycare in the future!

Bark Avenue has been great for our dog. They send a report card during the day so we know how he is…read moredoing. When we bring him home, he is exhausted for the rest of the day because he is always wiped after a day full of fun with his friends (which is hard for a vizsla). We appreciate the care and attention to him. They also have been able to trim his nails (and get all four paws done), which is a feat in itself. Clean facility, always smells so nice when we walk in. We are very pleased with the team here! Highly recommend.
