If you're looking for a unique outdoor experience definitely give tree canopy climbing a try! This was a great way to get a physical workout with a beautiful view of the Deception Pass area. Having no climbing experience, I thought it was challenging but fun and totally do-able. Besides skydiving, this was my second favorite activity so far in Washington. The session kicks off with a safety overview and a practice climb up 30 feet before moving onto the next tree. Depending on the pace of your group, you could climb up to 3 trees in one session. At no point do you feel any pressure to have to climb all the way to the top. You can stop anytime and just "hang out" or descend to the ground. The guides are very helpful and patient. The equipment is checked multiple times to ensure everyone's safety. Make sure to bring some snacks, water, and a camera. You might get lucky and spot some bald eagles like we did. read more

The tee canopy adventure was the first time I experienced going up a tree in that fashion. Alex was very thorough in his directions regarding setup for going up the tree and going down the tree. Half of the group had a fear of heights and yes you will feel the anxiety of being so high off the ground but Alex was very reassuring, which helped us feel safe. We signed up for the Sunset Tree Climb in Silver Falls State Park, Oregon, and had an amazing time. Our leader Brennan was super chill and knowledgeable, and addressed all of our questions as well as providing us with the info needed to climb and descend a 300' tree safely. It was an amazing experience: challenging, rewarding, fun and thrilling. I 100% recommend this activity to people who like being outdoors and are at least moderately active. The was a short hike (about 20 mins/half-hour with some uphill, one steep part) to the tree and that was a good warm up. Plus the intro lesson on a tree near the parking lot that preceded the actual climb which was informational, practical and got my muscles moving. (Silver Falls is a beautiful park and we stayed in one the park's campground cabins which was a perfect way to end the day.) Thank You Brennan for a great experience! We are big fans of yours now! I came across this randomly one day on the internet and knew that the tree climbing experience was something I had to try. I am always looking for something out of the ordinary to do and my boyfriend is always talking about his love of tree climbing from his younger days, so this seemed like a perfect fit for us. We've done some beginner rock climbing excursions in the past with other companies but I don't recall any of them being quite as high as this. I found a coupon, which made the price very reasonable and booked a few months in advance. This process was also very painless and hassle free. The tree we climbed is located on Bainbridge Island which can be a bit of a hardship, but they tell you which ferry is best to take from Seattle and may even pick you up at the terminal. You go on a short hike to the tree and may need to use the bathroom in the woods so be prepared for this. Looks like they may cancel for weather concerns, but you may also climb in the rain and get a little wet and dirty. Personally I would bring a jacket and not wear your best clothes. It takes awhile to get everyone harnessed up and ready to go. There's also a quick lesson and trial for each person on how to use the pulley type system and the rappel. While this is a unique skill set I did not find it be as athletically challenging as I thought it might be, but my boyfriend disagrees. They encourage you to swing out from the tree to ease your anxiety and verify for yourself that you are securely attached. This particular tree was 200 ft or so tall and had 5 ropes for climbers attached to it. If you make it to the top you can stand on branches. I hear the view is best on a clear day. Our guide was Leo and he was pretty great. He was understanding about us being poor planners and being late for our excursion. He was also up in the tree with us the entire time and did a great job of easing anxiety. I decided I only wanted to go about half way up the tree which was still super high and he was happy to let us come down early and walk us back to our car. This certainly is not for everyone, definitely not for those who are fearful of heights, but an experience that is very unique and worth checking out at least once. read more

My best friend surprised me with the canopy tree climbing for my birthday and it was so much fun! Completely unlike anything else I've done. We made it to the top just after sunset and I can't think of a more incredible place to watch the sky change, than perched atop a 200ft tree. Absolutely stunning! I booked the tree canopy climbing for 4 with a living social deal. It was only good for the 830am or 1pm times. However I saw that they had a sunset experience, which was only $20 more a person. So we did that instead. The experience was extremely amazing! Being that high up was so cool. Our adventure leader was amazing and so sweet. She gave us lots of great tips and even comforted someone in our group that was having a hard time. Overall it was a great experience. The only thing that I am a little upset about is the fact that we completely missed the sunset. By the time we got up there it was pretty much dark and you could hardly see anything, but we still had to pay the extra $20 each because it was "the experience if repelling in the dark". Which was not the reason that I booked it. I booked it for the sunset. So, I feel like that extra $80 in total was completely wasted. I would book an 8:30am or 1pm trip rather than the sunset one. We had such a GREAT time with Leo, Zack and Dominic. Great guys, great guides and a lot of fun and encouragement. I was never rushed and even though my husband kind it twice compared to my one time it was amazing. They take every safety precaution and check with you all the way up and down to ensure you are feeling OK and comfortable. They stay with you the whole way up and down. It is a challenge but the views are spectacular. This is a MUST DO! It's like nothing we had ever done. This was definitely an accomplishment. My son, 15, and daughter, 18 climbed 200 feet up on a 240 foot Douglas Fir with their guide Matt in Deception Pass State Park. He taught them what to do in less than 30 minutes, and they were up and practicing soon after. As soon as they got the hang of it, they took a quick break and then went up to the top within an hour. They hung out up there looking at the ocean and taking photos (Matt the guide brought his phone). They rappelled down easily and would definitely like to do it again someday! The only disappointment was that they were hoping to try the second tree located about 15 minutes away, but there wasn't enough time. I bought a package through amazon local gift for my husband and son to do while i am in school and unfortunately my husband has called to schedule a couple of times and even left a message for a call back to schedule. They haven't answered or call back. They don't seem to want business or to honor the deals they put out on the net or at least that is the way it is coming off. Once in a lifetime experience, we did old growth canopy climbing. All the staff was amazing, kind, and helpful: from booking to end, if they don't answer the phone make sure to leave a voicemail and they will get right back to you. We had so much fun! Be ready to get your workout on. Can not recommend them enough, the kindness and patience of the staff made the experience extremely meaningful. Not once did we feel rushed or like we were doing something wrong, which led to being in the present moment and taking it all in at our own pace. We also opted for the photo option and glad we did - again everyone was super nice. They all ensured we had an amazing time and captured great memories for us (like us getting engaged in the canopy). Our guide also was pretty nervous and said she had only been doing this a month -- I definitely did *not* feel safe doing this, and would highly advise people to really check out the guide before putting yourself up 200 feet. We booked a trip for 4of us for this morning at 8:30 am. Took the ferry over from Seattle but the canopy company car was not there to pick us up as promised. Called 3 different numbers we found for adventure terra but no one answered any of them. Hired a cab to take us to the address listed. Got dropped off at the correct address but turned out to be some nice lady's house who had no idea what we were talking about. She directed us to walk down the road to a parking lot and call the phone number in the tree. Again, no one answered. A neighbor walked by and offered to help and called a 5th number which was for a booking agent in New York. It's now almost 10 and we are still trying to find someone to talk to and go tree climbing. Would not recommend this business so far...hopefully it gets better. read more

I don't normally write reviews, however I feel this experience deserves one. Yesterday we went canopy tree climbing with AdventureTerra and it was AMAZING. From start to finish it was incredible. First we were greeted at the meeting spot by the instructors who were very friendly and welcoming. The location was super easy to find and not far from the ferry. After introductions we took a short hike to where the trees were and got started. The instructors were extremely patient and explained everything well. It took a second to catch on which led to some great laughs but once we got the hang of it, it was a piece of cake. They were with us the whole time so there was never a time where we didn't feel completely safe. We were able to climb and swing and if we thought to bring snacks, we could have had a picnic on the branches at the top of the tree :) It was truly something I will never forget. I have already told all of my friends and coworkers and would suggest it to anyone who wants to just chill out and have nice mid-week break or a fun Saturday adventure. I bought an amazon deal. Scheduling was fast and easy, and the trip itself (on Bainbridge Island) a grand adventure. To be able to go with my daughter, who is 9, up into the canopy, where usually only the birds and squirrels hang out, was wondrous. It's so peaceful up there, looking out over the tops of the highest trees. And the climbing itself was FUN. We pushed away from the tree (while securely held by ropes) to go flying and diving into the open air. And we caught onto the trunks of neighboring trees. Leo our guide encouraged having fun, and he played too. At the same time, he was an expert guide, reassuring and kind, explaining everything we needed to know but not overwhelming us either--just the right amount. And he hung out with us at every stage as long as we felt like it. My daughter felt so comfortable, she chatted up a storm. Now she wants to bring her friends. Took the whole family - location was amazingly beautiful, all the gear was perfect for us and in fantastic shape, climbs were chosen and scaled to our skill levels (we'd only done some indoor walls before - this was our first time on real rock), our guide was calm, patient, highly competent, unexpectedly great with kids (took time to help our youngest to the summit and build his confidence), fun to be with, and most important to me had a sharp eye for safety. I could see he was automatically drawing from a long history of past climbing experiences to identify different things that could have gone wrong and preventing them from happening in the first place just making sure everything was set up right for us really giving us his undivided attention the whole time so we would have a great experience.
