A long overdue review for an excellent installation of excellent HVAC equipment! We bought this house new in 1997. Advantage Heating & Cooling (AHC) were the original HVAC installer in the subdivision. There was no AC when we purchased the house. After the first summer we did purchase air conditioning add-on and we contacted AHC. Made sense since they were the original contractor. AHC has also serviced our system over the years. 27 years later and now it's time for a complete HVAC replacement and an upgrade to modern equipment. In selecting a contractor, it took about a minute to decide that Advantage Heating & Cooling would be the right choice. AHC specializes and recommended Daikin equipment for a replacement and after researching this company I agreed. Quite an impressive worldwide company! AHC have sent their employees to the company's Texas facility for training and product familiarization and that solidified my decision further. Working with AHC on this project was simple and enjoyable. Everyone within the company is professional and genuinely friendly. The bis process consisted of the estimator and a tech. They tested my home to make sure they were specifying the correct equipment for my home. Never did they try and upsell me to a system or add-ons that were not right for our house. Very impressive. As expected, the install went smoothly. The two workers were friendly, professional and fully respectful of our privacy during the process. They communicated with regular updates of the progress without being invasive. The install took two days as estimated. There were no issues/problems whatsoever. After install they completely tested the system and made sure the thermostat was properly setup and that we understood its operation. The new system is incredible! It is so much quieter than the old system. In fact, when I turned on the heat for the first time, I had to go out to the garage to ensure it had come on! The heating and cooling are both much more efficient and now our HVAC has become transparent. No noise. No excessive fan noise. It just works. The environment is much more comfortable and evenly heated and cooled. I cannot recommend Advantage Heating & Cooling high enough. If you're on the edge deciding, pick AHC. Add on top of that, the Daikin equipment is top notch, affordable and has a great warranty. Several of my neighbors have had their HVAC replaced over the past few years. Every one of then had one or more callbacks to fix installation problems. We have had zero problems since our system was installed March 2024. read more

Mixed impressions on Advantage. I switched over from a competitor because Advantage honored a low estimate for service. A couple months later, I used them to install a new furnace when ours suddenly gave up the ghost. What I have noticed over the few months, though, is a recurring problem with their estimates; they seem frequently off. I was told service would be complimentary on a Friday only to be told the opposite the following Monday--after they were in my home. This was compounded even further by poor communication in the form of an e-mailed invoice that was incorrect. On top of that, they forgot the part. Fortunately, I was able to call their office and get at least some assistance. Another thing to be aware of is that when you're signed up with some company's monthly "maintenance plans," you may not see charging for short and simple stops. My last HVAC company, for instance, came out for free to advise as to whether a second story leak was related to the air conditioning system. That doesn't seem the case for Advantage; they arrive at your house, and you are going to pay. So, bottom line, the estimate issue brought me to them initially, but in the end, it may also be a sign of a poorly managed operation. Going to stick it out a little while longer and see how they do in the coming months. As an update, a few days following this review, our new furnace developed a gas leak. read more

Two years ago we purchased a new Daikin heat pump and furnace through Advantage. We were unfamiliar with this brand and so we were hesitant about moving forward but were assured this was a quality product. Since then, we have had significant issues with the heat pump. Since installation - the pump has frozen up twice (picture a giant snowball) and now has a new leak (it leaked previously too). As of this writing the unit is dead and unplugged. Getting parts in a timely manner from the distributor has been a joke. We can use "emergency heat" still but that is very costly. So this winter we have heated our house with almost a cord of wood. The only reason this purchase has not been rated lower than 2 stars is that our service tech (Jeff) and some of the office folks have been very pleasant to work with. If I could do this all over again I would have purchased another brand. Life lesson... read more

Based in your response, the public needs to hear the full story. Prior to listing our house we had NW Natural inspect all our gas appliances, then we had another company come out and clean our furnace. Both said it was in great shape. Then we had a pre-inspection and the inspector also said it was in good shape but a wire to an air circulation thing had been disconnected. It wasn't required but we wanted the house to be perfect so we called out this Advantage to install that. Keep in mind, Advantage arrived than 24 hours (closer to 12) from this inspection. Advantage came out and completely dismantled our furnace in about 4 places and REWIRED THE CIRCUIT BOARD so it wouldn't work and told us they're required to do this (which other companies I spoke to disputed) and told us we needed to pay $4000-$8000 for a new furnace. I immediately called out another company (he arrived very soon after they left) who came out and inspected it. It took him awhile to find the re-wire job but once it was back together he said it was in good shape. This company said that Advantage is known to do this type of stuff and it angers him that they gouge people who can't afford it. He also said that they're vindictive and it's a small community so when he have sent me a copy of his bill to forward to Advantage, he removed his name from the bill so he wouldn't be retaliated against. Yes they did offer to come out with NW Natural but I was advised not to let them because they could mess with my furnace when that NW Natural person wasn't looking and couldn't be trusted. I told him that was exactly my reasoning for declining. I wanted Advantage to pay for my fees to have my furnace and circuit board put back together. In response Advantage sent me a certified letter that they would file an ethics complaint with the REALTOR board if I took it further (I'm licensed REALTOR in WA), proving what the other company said about Advantage being vindictive. I contacted the President of the board, Terry Eccles-Petit and she told me to go for it, that they have no chance of winning since it had nothing to do with my license and it would just spread the word of how unethical they were. I was ready to go forward but my husband asked me not to because he couldn't take anymore stress than they had already caused. Yelp is a free forum to express good and bad service. Most of my yelps are complimentary as I believe in sharing good service as well as poor service. If Advantage does anything else to cause my husband further stress, I'll make sure to let Yelpers know as well as to begin posting on Google and everywhere else. I won't be bullied by threats. I'm posting this for my mom because she's not on Yelp. "On January 3rd, my 50 year old oil furnace died. I called five or six repair companies and they all had long waiting lists for service. The staff at Advantage Heating and Cooling showed so much compassion that I got on their waiting list for January 11th. Before the day of and on the day of my appointment, I received calls confirming it. I was told the name of the technician who would be coming and given a window of time to expect him. I also got calls updating me on his status when he ran into complications with repairs earlier that day. I appreciated this very much because nobody wants to be stuck watching the clock and wondering what's going on. I had been getting by with three space heaters and when Jeff arrived at 3pm, he was a welcome sight. He was very professional yet personable. He explained all the steps he would be taking to inspect and repair my furnace. Two hours later, wonderful heat was pouring through the vents. Everyone I spoke with from Advantage was very friendly and professional. They were able to adjust my appointment and they still showed up right on time. Jeff was able to narrow down my issue to a specific wire and correct it. he also explained what he was doing at each step, which I appreciate since I have a basic grasp on our HVAC system and like understanding what went wrong. I appreciate Advantage service at every level and will contact them again when in need of HVAC repair. I should also note that I previously used another big Vancouver company (whom I won't name, but it starts with an "E") and they missed a fairly large issue which I personally was able to diagnose and correct (fan on system never turned off, needed a new relay switch which you could see easily when looking at the old one), so I have seen both experienced professionals who know their job (Jeff) and the other guys who could not figure out an issue that even I found later with my limited experience. Have had Advantage service our 70 year oil furnace for more than ten years. We love Jeff. He knows everything about our old Mayflower oil furnace. He has always given us options on running it. We are crying now because Advantage is no longer doing servicing in Oregon. Jeff has kept everything going great all this time. When we called an Oregon company to unclog the A/C system pump piping (which Jeff did two years ago), the service man opened the furnace and promptly said we had to get a new one for safety purposes and he wouldn't work on it. So, we're going the youtube way of unclogging the pump piping, and hoping Advantage will change its mind about working in Oregon. read more

I spoke with Sam twice and she is very cold and not customer oriented. I tell her that her company name is in the air-conditioning system of the house I just bought. That they inspected the system last year and for a few consecutive years, that the previous owner had a maintenance service agreement with them. She told me that there was nothing under my name and then silence, I explain again that I just bought the house that there would not be anything under my name to please try under the address. She said "I could do that" and told me the name of the previous owner, said that they had cancelled the service agreement. I knew that because they would not be paying it for me and I when I moved this fell through the cracks. So I really wanted to start a service agreement, have my AC checked, and possibly buy a new one since the existing one is old. I hesitate to ever speak negative about anybody and I am a kind person, but her lack of phone skills, lack of empathy, and lack of desire to provide good customer service spoke volumes of what to expect if I engaged with them. He took the time to trouble shoot my system, teach me how to do some trouble shooting on my own and educate me on how the system works. He even caught mistake by my Security System when they installed my thermostat. This catch saved me what could potentially could've been a very pricey fix if it had gone on unchecked. I gave it one extra star for this company because I thought the installation was great. What I am giving a low rating is the customer service. I just got off the phone to get a "preventative maintenance" scheduled on my AC unit that I had them install. $170 for this to get set up, the person on the phone was extremely rude! I am not familiar with having AC units installed and I feel like they are there to nickel and dime the customers for this to get scheduled. I will try and go to another company to get a better quote to get this scheduled just because of the poor customer service. read more

Our heater went out at 10:30pm on New Year's Eve. Not wanting to pay the extra cash on the holiday, we waited until Thursday the 2nd to call for service. After making three calls to other companies whose earliest available appointment would be the following Monday, I called Advantage at the recommendation of a co-worker. I called during my lunch break. The kind and friendly woman on the phone said they were full through the weekend with nothing available until Monday. I know my response was that of being frustrated, but the woman told me that she would call the technician to see if he would be available that night. Within five minutes she called me back and said that her technician would be able to fit me in that night between 7-9pm. I was so grateful! Matt was here a little after 8pm. He was very nice, professional, friendly and all smiles even at this time of night. He was able to come in, allow me to explain our situation, diagnose an explain the inner workings of our heating system. He left at around 9:30pm and did not charge us an after hour fee. We had been experiencing a problem with the furnace not responding correctly when the thermostat would call for it for Heat On. It would try and start but just kept cycling without actually working. I called Advantage Heating and Cooling as our air conditioner was not working this month. The owner Matt came by at 8PM, did a quick trouble shoot and isolated the problem to a circuit breaker in the electrical panel. Besides that, he did a quick check on the performance of the AC unit to ensure there was no internal short circuit and that it was cooling adequately, which it was.
