We've moved several times within the Bay Area and always went with the cheaper movers where they're almost aggressive at end of day asking for tips. This time, we decided to try a company more professional yet reasonable in price. Like everyone said, Jim came before the actual move day in order to get an accurate quote. He was VERY thorough. The crew came the night before to pad everything and we mean everything! Blankets, tapes. On moving day, Rudy Jorge and Jose came and they were professional, friendly and quick. The actual cost came in under the estimate. I found out that the crew has all been with Jim close or longer than 10 years! At the new place, I tried to move (more like drag) the sofa myself and left a scratch on the hardwood floor. Great experience moving with Jim and his crew! His three man crew was on-time, friendly, and very professional. They were efficient during the moving process, wrapping everything carefully and quickly. While unloading, they took care to lay down paper to avoid soiling the floors and even added soft pads for our furniture to avoid scratching the hardwood. I would definitely use them again. I used Advanced Moving in late July 2020 to move my mom from her home into a memory care facility. It was a very stressful week so I really appreciated Jim's crew showing up on time, being well prepared, and taking a little extra care to wrap and carefully move what we needed moved while protecting what was being left behind. Like someone has mentioned before do not get confused with a company that has a similar name than them in San Jose, it's not the same company. I called Advanced Moving Company when we moved this past summer. I talked to the owner who gave me a quote and we planned a time and date for them to come. They were right on time. He came with a couple of guys and they got to work. My husband was super impressed with their work ethic and how friendly they were. They took really good care of our things, gave us suggestions on how to keep our hard wood floors in good condition, and were completely professional. Follow up emails to confirm information about the move were answered timely & completely. On the day of the move, Salvador and the crew were very professional - notified me of ETA and showed up on time. Once they arrived were efficient and safety-oriented. They were methodical in determining the best method to move an extremely heavy item into the truck. They also wore masks the whole time they were around me and moving the items. We chose Advanced Moving Company among others because of Jim's friendly and detailed on-site estimate. From the start, he's clearly interested in taking care of the customer and doing good work. He took careful notes as we walked through our home, offered advice on how we could save money and headaches by doing certain things ourselves, and suggested the best way to orient a portable storage unit for ease of loading. His estimated cost was competitive with other companies, and he even helped us calculate how large of a storage unit we would need. All of his estimates turned out impressively close to what we ended up with in the end: actual cost was slightly lower, and the storage unit was about 98% full by the time we were done. Jim's employees work hard and do a good job. We had Jorge, Jose, Salvador, and Carlos working on our move over the span of 2 days. They were friendly and focused on getting the job done. Truly the best in the business. Jim came on site to do an estimate and asked lots of questions which shows me that he works hard to give a quotation that is as close as possible to the final cost. On the actual moving day, his crew of 3 showed up and were beyond professional, and meticulous in their work. I was not as organized as I would have liked to be so it was a hectic few days up to the final hours before they arrived- I swear heavens opened up and angels sang when the guys got here, it was the best part of the whole packing- moving ordeal. In both houses they rolled out paddings to protect the floors, the door frames, and wrapped every single piece of furniture securely. HIGHLY recommend this company - we recently moved from Sunnyvale to the Lake County area. Jim Vaughn (owner/manager) came by for the initial estimate, went with me from room to room inside the house, outside around the house, and into the 2 sheds, inventorying what was going to moved *AND* added in the contents of 2 U-Haul storage pods to the estimate, sight unseen* as well! The move occurred over a 3 day period (day 1 was scheduled to pick up the contents of the 2 U-Haul storage pods and the big furniture pieces from the house, which included taking apart our platform bed, day 2 was to pick up boxes and sundry items from the house & transport the kit & kaboodle to our new location (we packed the contents of our home ourselves to save $$), day 3 was scheduled to unload all items, and setup our bed. On all move days, the moving crew's efficiency was inCREDible! On our move-in day, they started at 9AM (right on schedule), and finished at around 3:30PM, in the midst of hot temperature (90's?), taking only a lunch break (they brought their own)... Jim and his crew moved my father's belongings from Santa Barbara to Alameda in December 2012 and since none of our family members could oversee the pick-up at the mini-storage in Santa Barbara, we mailed detailed instructions and the storage locker key to Jim. He is the most honest individual I know, he immediately called me when the locker was opened and alerted me to prior damage, including a Japanese doll in a glass case that had previously been poorly-stacked on a soft box--causing the case to fall, breaking the glass. Advance moving company is a professional outfit where you can give general guidelines for what you want. Tell Jim Vaughn and his staff to use their best judgment and in the end you will be a happy camper. I've been through 8 moves now including two international moves. in my early moves multiple movers gave me advice to pack my own stuff, because customers always pack their stuff more carefully then professional movers. That advice is clearly not true in the bay area. I've always had a bit left over for the movers, and they have always packed faster and more carefully. I have had a total of four local moves and hauls now. Advance Movers is the only one that nailed it clean on the first try. I never met Jim, he interviewed me on the phone. He asked insightful questions. For example I mentioned I lived in a studio . Jim replied " do you have a packing problem?" Took me a beat , but I realized he was asking if I would be able to pack all my stuff and keep all the packed boxes in the remaining space. The answer was a clear no. We agreed that I would do most of my packing , but the crew would bring at least a dozen large boxes plus the usual to deal with the studio space issue . About the truck. I've dealt with haulers and movers in the bay area before and describe my personal possessions and Jim was the only one who has ever come close to making an accurate estimate based on my description (uhh, the heap is 8 feet tall, 4 feet wide and one foot deep?) For all three of my local bay area moves the crew arrived with a truck that was at least 50% smaller than the actual load. Due to difficult circumstances, it was better for me to have a fast pack and move them to have careful packing with zero breakage. After explaining how much tolerance I had , I told the crew to use their best judgment to achieve better speed . When I arrived at my destination , I found they had packed faster than I expected , and more carefully than I had even hoped for . I've managed to unpack about 50%, and so far nothing has been broken. Is this the lowest cost move you can make? In dollars and cents, no. But if you need to get the move done exactly the way you want it on the first try, advance movers is the way to go. I mean you really don't want that truck to make two trips to haul all your stuff. We found this moving company here on yelp. Let me start off by saying that this was the best moving experience I have ever had. The estimate was competitive and after the move they came in $200 below the estimate. The crew was on time, courteous, and professional. They worked at a steady, reasonable pace an took great care not to damage our furniture. There was however , a small damage to the old house and another small damage to the new house. Once presented to Jim, the owner, he apologized and paid for the damages immediately, without resistance. The true measure of a company is how good they are when things go wrong. We had the Advanced moving company help us with a move from Sunnyvale to San Jose this past weekend and it went really well. It took 3 guys 1.5 hours to load the truck (2 bedroom 1 bath apartment) and about an hour to unload (3bedroom 1.5 bath two story townhouse). It probably would have been faster but it was raining off and on. I was worried about our floors and light colored carpet getting dirty but they kept it clean by putting down runners and also this seran wrap cling-on type plastic on the the stairs/carpet. The guys were quick, hardworking, and addressed every concern. The initial booking and scheduling with Jim was also straightforward and simple flat per hour rate without hidden fees. I had a fantastic experience a week ago with Advanced Moving Company. It was under $400, including tip, to move in less than 3 hours all the way from storage in Sunnyvale to the Marina in SF. Jim is the owner and was able to schedule me for a Sunday morning move less than 24 hours in advance. Our movers (Jorge and Rudy) were great. I could not believe how quickly they got all of my belongings to my 3rd floor apartment, and everything arrived in great condition. Amazing. Flawless packing, customer-service personality, packing, and unpacking. Jim, the owner, 30 years in the business, was very helpful. He explained how we might pack some items ourselves, to save money, and eventually his team, Rudy and Jose, ended up packing our large, mounted prints. They did a far better job than we did packing our remaining prints. Dedicated, conscientious amateurs vs. 2 professionals; they win. Our move also took place over lunchtime. Rudy carefully explained to us that they had brought their own lunches and would be taking about 15 min. before driving to our new place, to eat lunch. I did monitor the time for the lunch, drive and he was dead on. We feel very comfortable with Rudy and Jose. They both had a great sense of humor, were very careful with our possessions, and moved incredibly quickly. We moved to a smaller place, and had to go from a fairly large storage area, plus added a bunch of extra boxes, and fit them all into 2 small storage cabinets. I was depressed. It was not possible for us to cull through all of the items in the boxes, and make decisions which to keep and which to throw away. Rudy saved us. He was masterful. In a very short time, with Jose handing him boxes, he was able to pack 3 dozen boxes into our tiny storage cabinets. Unbelievable. Tour de force. These guys have good hearts, enjoy their work, have lots of energy, are dedicated, respectful, and conscientious. They understand the endless and subtle details of moving. I recently used this company to move and Jim made everything go smoothly. He came out to my house and to the house we were moving to, in order to check all materials needed and expect before the move. He gave me all the information I needed and gave me all the costs up front. They even knew exactly how many wardrobe boxes I needed. They had everything down to a science. They plastic wrapped my couches and bagged my mattresses. They used furniture pads on everything. They put mats down on the floor in order to prevent stains or damage to the house. First and foremost, this company's Household Goods Permit was revoked on 10/03/2013 on the California Public Utilities Commission website. I called the owner Jim Vaughn and asked him about his revoked license. He explained to me that he had mailed a check for the insurance and the public utilities commission had not updated the status on their website. I accepted this reason and asked him for a quote. Jim got my number and told me that he would call me back in an hour. That was week ago. No call yet. If you want to use this carrier please check if the license has be reinstated.
