Don't let the small storefront fool you--McCarty's is huge in terms of service and experience…read more What made our purchase experience so positive: 1) Jackie. Period! Jackie knows her stuff. She listened carefully and looked at photos of our living room windows, pointing us to the products that would work. Jackie wanted us to be happy. She sent us home with color samples, then ordered larger samples of our top contenders. Jackie embodies customer service ideals--she provided information and support without any pressure. She was patient as we weighed the pros and cons of different options and worked out what was best for us. 2) Installation. Todd is very experienced and did a fantastic job installing our blinds. 3) Quality. We had previously purchased custom window coverings from another local shop. The people were nice and helpful, but attention to detail on the final product was lacking. I cannot find a flaw in the products we purchased from McCarty's. 4) Support. After four years, one of our motorized blinds stopped responding. We called Jackie and she told us how to get troubleshooting support from Hunter-Douglas. She said if they determine a motor had failed, call her back. A failed motor was confirmed and we called Jackie back. She immediately ordered a new motor. When the motor arrived, Todd came to the house and removed the non-working blind. The motor was replaced, then Todd came back to reinstall the blind. I was worried the fabric might get dirty or mangled in the process. Nope. Looks as good as it ever did. If you need window coverings, visit Jackie at McCarty's for knowledge, support, and top-notch quality.

I had to wait a year to write this review, so as to cool off from this negative experience with…read moreJack Carver aka Gotcha Covered. After a year of contemplation, I decided that it was probably better to let other folks digest this story, so they can decide for themselves, given the safety issues and deceptions I experienced with this vendor. I hired Jack to install motorized and manual blinds at two homes, one a rental, the other my personal residence. Jack had a license to perform and install ONLY low voltage motorized blinds. Jack claimed to have an licensed electrician to perform high voltage (120 V) work need to power the blinds. Jack does not hold a legitimate high voltage or 120 V license. What happened: Jack performed faulty and hazardous work that was not to code at both homes. I discovered an overheating power supply stuffed behind a wall (stud bay) that had exposed 120 V connections. This was at the rental property, and could have easily started a fire, endangering my tenants. Additionally, the low voltage wiring for the motorized blinds was daisy chained together, to save having to buy a power supply for each large blind (money saving short-cut). I was forced to hire a licensed electrician to review and fix all the electrical work, because Jack refused to cooperate and own up to the issues. At my personal residence, a high voltage power outlet was incorrectly installed and wired, and the low voltage wiring was daisy chained to save having to buy a power supply for each large motorized blind. The blind size requires an individual power supply. I was forced to hire a licensed electrician to review and fix all the electrical work, because Jack refused to cooperate and own up to the issues. Alarmingly, at homes, nobody, including my wife and other tradesman, saw the purported "licensed electrician" that Jack uses for 120 V. The licensed electrician I had to hire to fix Jack's work, stated in a letter forwarded to the contractors board: "no licensed electrician would perform such slipshod and hazardous work...." The above fiasco was in addition to blinds cut too narrow (big light gaps), blind pull bars falling off (no hems), and the list goes on, but I won't bother the reader with more negatives. The take home message here is get multiple bids from larger reputable firms. I had hoped to support a local independent, but it back-fired, as I lost a fair chunk of money rewiring both houses and hiring a blind company to redo all of Jack's work. What a shame, truly.

I had delayed dealing with the failed seals, fearing that the entire window would have to be replaced and that the cost would be prohibitive. They carefully measure the windows, and remove and replace just the glass at a fraction of the cost I feared. My only regret is that I didn't contact them sooner! Thank you, Aptos Glass!

The window was not square, and they actually cut the window perfectly to size! (That may sound like a given, but no, it is not. One other place had cut a piece for me and they would only cut it one length, I needed 1/8 inch longer on one side.) They sanded the edges and loaded it up for me in my car. The glass is perfect, nothing fancy, just 1/8" but I was so happy with this result! Everyone I spoke to was delightful and very pleasant. I have had glass cut for other windows in the past, but never had such excellent results. I was especially grateful for the sanded (safety bevels) on the edges. I have had to handle fresh cut edges in the past, and I did not know that the sanding was available. Cut edges on glass is really stressful. We will be going back here for any glass needs.

We had shutters installed in July of 2018, so they're 5.5 years old. Probably the biggest…read moreregret/buyers remorse item we've ever bought. Our total was 16k. Some thoughts on the whole experience: Installers were messy. Styrofoam beads, pieces of packaging left in window sills. Not just a couple, almost every window. Lots of shutters were installed crooked. Claimed my windows were crooked...really? They adjusted some of them to be less crooked but they're still crooked. Shutters were left with sticky residue from packaging. Dirt marks from installers. None of which they cleaned off. Scratches and damage on slats of shutters and frame areas. A lot of the scratches looked like it was the fault of the installers, slicing open the packaging with a utility knife. They did offer to replace slats, showed up on one of the multiple visits to fix issues and they hadn't taken notes of what slat went with what window. I ended up going around myself and replacing slats. Just a low quality product. Scuffs and scrapes. Severe discoloration from the sun. See picture. I contacted them about this, told me I'd have to go thru the warranty. I have gotten absolutely nowhere with this. I mean what are they going to do? Replace everything. Just a poor quality product. Photo is from a west facing window, but all the shutters have this issue. Every. Single. One. Even windows that get minimal sun exposure, even the shutters that are on the front porch windows, north facing, have the discoloration. The discoloration is on every part of their product that gets sun exposure, shutters, slats, frame in the window. The blame for the discoloration lies 100% with their product. For cleaning all I've ever done was to vacuum them off, and wipe off with a damp cloth. No cleaners or anything. Someone needs to tell installers that less is more when it comes to caulk. The only positive thing I can say is the shutters do technically cover the window. I don't recommend this business or the product they sell. Extreme buyers remorse. One of their big selling point about these vinyl or pvc shutters is you don't have to paint them. I wish I could paint them. Business owners also requested I remove my original yelp review before they would come out to address the poor installation issues. I just cleaned them today, discoloration is just getting worse and worse, so posting a review.
