Customer service needs some improvement. I had a question and the receptionist seemed like I was inconveniencing them.

If you broke a window in your house/or a window mysteriously broke, call The Skylight Place. After a particularly arduous week, my bedroom window decided to crack. I tried asking around, and no one knew of any company that specialized in domestic window repairs. I googled "window repair" and The Skylight Place illuminated my screen. I submitted a request via the website and Paul from The Skylight Place responded immediately. Within a week, Daniel Melgoza was able to visit to measure the broken window. Today, he stopped by during the scheduled window (which is actually really hard to do: I know, because I previously worked as an office manager in Construction) He laid down a tarp, which was very very sweet and conscientious as I am one of those weird neurotic people who doesn't like shoes in the house. Daniel repaired the window super quickly and now I have one less thing to worry about. read more

The Skylight Place was subcontracted by my contractor on a main bathroom remodel. They provided the walk in shower door and handled its installation. Aaron and Daniel were the installers. They were very respectful, I happened to be home the day of the install. They were conscious to keep their voices mellow (not yelling like some workers do) and chose music that was generic/wouldn't be considered offensive (classic rock) and played it at a mellow volume. Skylight Place changed our custom order without contacting us to discuss options. As part of a home remodel, we enlarged two bathrooms. Everything was new including the tile around a new tub and walk-in shower. After discussing options with the few installers in Santa Cruz, we selected Skylight Place to install custom tub and shower surrounds. We went into the Skylight Place store and discussed our requirements with Paul (one of the owners). We told him we wanted: * Same enclosure model for both the tub and walk-in shower. * Starfire (clear) glass. * Simple disc handles in the glass (no towel racks or handles sticking out). * Brushed nickel (to match the color of our fixtures). * No barrier across the entrance to the walk-in shower. Paul looked on-line and identified a product that met our requirements. We ordered June 3, 2024. One of their employees came and took measurements for the enclosures. Installation was August 19th. Apparently, the vendor Paul recommended no longer delivers to California. Instead of calling and discussing options with us, SOMEONE AT SKYLIGHT PLACE randomly selected a similar product for the installation. We didn't realize what happened until after the installation was complete. * The two enclosures are not the same model. * The tub enclosure did not have the Starfire glass we ordered. * Both enclosures had handles/towel racks sticking out. * Both enclosures were brushed stainless steel instead of brushed nickel. When we called to discuss these issues with Paul, we were referred to Rick, the company VP. Because their installers already drilled into the new tile, we had no choice but to accept the models Skylight Place had selected and installed. Rick ordered and replaced the Starfire Glass we paid for, and he changed the handles as we requested, but certain parts did not come in the brushed nickel we wanted and therefore we had to accept some brushed stainless steel. We requested and received a discount, but in retrospect, we should have asked for more. The replacements were not completed until the end of November. The installers were friendly. It is not their fault the order went sideways. Rick was understanding and did his best to solve the problems. Those are the only reasons this review gets two stars. We honestly do not understand how ANYONE would think it is acceptable to change, order, and install any CUSTOM PRODUCT without first discussing it with the customer. We cannot express how very disappointed we are that no one from Skylight Place attempted to contact us and give us options. We might have gone with a different product. We might have gone with a different installer. But those decisions were taken away from us. After this experience, we will never look to Skylight Place for any work and we certainly won't be recommending them to anyone. read more

I am only giving a three star review because the guy we saw today was so accommodating. I placed an order 10 days ago. for three custom cut pieces of plexiglass to use with my new wicker deck furniture and provided credit card info. I was told they would be ready the next week for pickup. I called the next Tuesday and was told, they would be ready for pickup this Friday. Went in today, not only were they not ready but my order had never been processed. The guy waiting on us went through a binder, found record of my call with the dimensions requested, and told me if I could wait 15 minutes, he would have them ready. He did and they are exactly what I wanted. Kudos to him!!! Too bad the woman who answers the phone to begin with couldn't have gotten this done! read more

Having heard glowing reports of their competence and helpfulness, I took 7 window screens to Skylight Place to be repaired or replaced. I also took a handful of questions about how to maneuver through the Milgard Window website. I had been struggling off and on for days trying to figure out how to report some foggy windows that were still on warranty and needed to be replaced, but the Milgard website was opaque. Stacey at Skylight Place fixed the window screens within 36 hours. He also navigated the Milgard website for me. Milgard telephoned me then next day to arrange the free window replacement. Skylight Place earned nothing for these efforts with Milgard, since Milgard sends their own people out. I really appreciate Stacey's kindness and generosity. read more

We brought a broken dual pane window here. A week later we picked up the replacement. It was the perfect size when we installed it. Happy customer. They will also do the full installation, but that requires multiple visits and two guys to install, so we saved a lot doing it ourselves. Remember the double-stick glazing tape! read more

Love my new shower doors! Daniel took great care installing the Cambridge shower doors, it was a tricky job because of the glass shower tiles. He was very polite, explained the process, and did a great clean up. This company has served us numerous times over the last 20 years. They are our "go-to" place for any kind of window/door repair and replacement. This past year, we needed all of our skylights replaced, some screens repaired and new screen doors. Too over priced. When I called, they sent me up to get my skylight repaired. The appointment was about 45 days out just to get a quote.. not my favorite but OK. They told me the repair of my cracked skylight was going to be $863 for the lens and $800 for installation. I then asked to order the skylight lens without the installation and she said that would be an additional $300 for coming out and measuring. Hard pass. Went to Interlight in Sequel and ordered the replacements for $180. read more

Daniel Melgoza came out to install a broken pane in our front door on a rainy morning in November. It turned out that the dimensions of the glass had been miscommunicated and the replacement pieces couldn't ever fit. Daniel took new measurements and told us he would do everything he could to expedite getting a new pane for us. He certainly did exactly that, calling us a short while later and telling us he had recut the pane and would be back in 15 minutes. Fifteen minutes later, there he was, in the still pouring rain. A short time to remove the trim and clean the cracked glass and debris and then install the replacement piece and replace the trim, then seal everything with silicon. During the entire process Daniel was polite and professional, despite the rain pouring off the roof and running down his back - all together a very pleasant experience and we will surely reuse The Skylight Place for any future glass needs. read more

I've been using TSP for years and they never disappoint. Just had them replace 5 windows and not only did they include the facia but they were 20% less than all others who didn't include it. Their trim work is also excellent and they always leave the job site cleaner than they found it.
