We had a 20-foot automatic awning installed today by Sun Blinds. The blind extends over our back deck. The fabric is from Sunbrella. The arms supporting the blinds are driven by a remotely controlled motor that runs quietly and smoothly. We contacted SunBlinds initially through Costco, which is giving us 20% back on the total. Our interactions with the Sunblinds people have been great, from the rep who came out to our house for the quote to the installation crew led by Hunter. Hunter and his assistant did an excellent job on the installation and Hunter took the time to explain how to use all the features with very useful tips on using the blinds. The installed awning works perfectly, and we are thrilled to finally be able to sit comfortably on our south-facing deck during the midday sun. Overall, a 5-star experience. The second employee was "Gary" who also took measurements. Installers "Hunter and Daniel" were next to arrive to install the blinds. "Hunter and Daniel" were very friendly, professional and prompt. I was impressed with the way they wanted to make sure we were happy and satisfied with the install. They had a great eye for detail and took their time. Most of these reviews that are 4 or 5 stars are long time ago. My initial experience was acceptable with Gary. Got the quote paid and installed. I installed motorized blinds and paid hefty amount. 2 yrs later one of the blinds frayed due to sunlight. Gary gave me estimate of about 1/3 the price of my whole house blinds. Ridiculous. Next thing u know they use automate app for power blinds and it's a piece of junk. App was glitch. Not fully compatible with Alexa in just 6 months as their app never updated. Now comes the frustrating part. Since basic functions were still OK and blinds were working with remote I kept quiet. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Kept using frail blind because even after the quote the company is just non responsive including Gary. Multiple calls unanswered no reply back on texts.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Now it's even worse. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Their old hub which was outdated in 6 months technically they should have given me upgraded one - even to this date after more than 5 yrs of follow up asking for estimate even though it should not be my responsibility - Gary or sun blinds as company does not even respond[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. We had originally purchased Dexter; Graber and glass slider door blinds back in 2021 and were pleased with the service; selection and installation. The pricing was competitive to other quotation. We upgraded our windows which changed window size and thus had to replace the Dexter Blinds, which are perfect for reducing light coming in, allowing light to come in, while maintaining privacy from outside in which you can't see in but can see out. With the stress of moving, I thought that Sun Blinds would be able to give me a hassle-free experience with all of their glowing reviews. I understand that hiccups happen, but I think all of the chaos could've been mitigated with proper communication and more attention to detail. You can look at my review history and know that I really don't like to give low rating reviews especially for extremely personal services like this one. However, this entire experience was like Murphy's Law, and I hope Sun Blinds can take this review into consideration to provide future clients with a more seamless experience. 1. Didn't bring the samples I asked for I knew I wanted a mix of blinds and curtains which was relayed in my initial communication to them. However, the day of our appointment, they only brought blinds, stating they couldn't fit curtains in their car and they would have to bring it on a different day. I wouldn't have had an issue with this if they set expectations from the start rather than feeling blindsided during the appointment (knowing that I'd have to take another day off work just to look at the curtain samples). 2. Quoted incorrectly They measured two rooms for curtains, but when they sent me the quote, they decided to quote exclusively for blinds. I really just didn't want to deal with the curtains anymore at this point, so I had them remove the window treatments completely from the two rooms and I ended up buying and installing curtains myself. 3. Ordered the wrong size blind While they were installing, they realized one of the blinds were too large and wouldn't fit the designated window. They had to schedule another appointment to install the last blind which took another 3-weeks to order the correct size. They got the sizing wrong even though they came two separate times to measure the windows (they had a second appointment just to double check the initial measurements they had). 4. Installed the wrong fabric for 5 curtains When checking the curtains during installation, I noticed they installed the same fabric throughout the house even though I was quoted and charged for 5 blackout curtains in the Primary Bedroom. Since they were already installed, I said they could just leave it since I didn't want to wait another month for the correct fabric to be made. Now, I regret not asking for the correct ones since the ones they installed hardly blocks any light in the bedroom (light filtering fabric rather than blackout). 5. Wrong valence option They installed Contour valences for all the windows, rather than the Flat valence option that I picked. I don't like the rounded look so I made sure to pick the Flat valences for a flush look. I was disappointed when they didn't say anything and just installed the contour ones. You can see in my attached photo what I mean (they're rounded and extremely bulky, vs what I told them I wanted) 6. Unorganized They confirmed the reinstallation appointment time for the replacement blind, and the day before my appointment, they asked for my availabilities to schedule an appointment. When I saw the text message, I wasn't even surprised. It's not a big deal, but was just another instance where they seemed completely disorganized. After I told them I had an appointment already, they apologized mentioning that they see the scheduled appointment. Overall, they're very nice people, but just extremely chaotic which causes a lot of unnecessary trouble. Though, I do have to commend the installers. They were extremely respectful, hardworking, and showed us how to use the motorized blinds. read more

We chose sun blinds because we saw their work at our cousin's house and also the wonderful reviews on yelp. Unfortunately we didn't have a good experience. Sunny was our consultant and we clearly mentioned we didn't want any gaps in our blackout shades. He seemed highly knowledgeable and recommended two shades with a small split for our master bedroom otherwise the shades would be too heavy. We went ahead with his expert suggestion. First issue popped up when the manufacturer had stopped the color we chose and was going to send out a new album. We didn't hear from sun blinds regarding when the new album was coming. We had to call them every time they missed the appointment. The installation and the installer was good but that is when we realized the gap between the shades in the master bedroom was wide and there would be light sweeping in from our patio motion sensor. The irony was we had specifically mentioned the reason for replacing our old blinds was because our neighbors motion sensors penetrated into our house and we wanted a solution. It seemed like we just transferred the problem from one room to the other. When we contacted the company, the response was everyone has different tolerance level to the amount of light and if they had to redo, they would charge us for the whole thing. Also we asked for sensor buttons for the windows but were installed with cords which was not mentioned in their work order too. The cords were replaced but we just gave up on the bedroom shades because we didn't want to go back and forth again. read more
