We hired JMK Shutters after hearing positive feedback from friends. The initial consultation with Joe went well -- he was personable and knowledgeable, and we felt confident moving forward.
The issues began after installation in early October. We noticed multiple defects in several shutter panels, including visible cracks and chips. We reported this immediately, and both Joe and Rommel came out to our home to take photos and videos to submit to the factory. He acknowledged the defects and agreed the panels would be replaced.
Separately (not JMK's fault), one of our window frames turned out to be slightly unlevel, causing one shade to appear misaligned. We agreed to purchase cornices to help conceal the issue.
Because the damaged panels still needed replacement and the cornices had not yet been installed, we initially withheld the final payment. We were told they would not proceed with replacements or additional work unless the remaining balance was paid first. Although uncomfortable paying for incomplete work, we paid in full after being assured everything would be taken care of.
Months passed with little clarity. We did not hear anything about "factory issues" until January -- several months after the original October visit when photos were supposedly submitted to the factory.
In January, the owner, Rommel, came to our home again to take additional photos and videos. During this visit, he asked us to point out all of the issues again. Because several months had passed and there were multiple defects discussed during the first visit, it was difficult to recall every specific item. When I asked if he had notes or documentation from the original October visit to reference, he redirected the conversation and stated, "If you can't show me the issues, then there is no problem for us to resolve."
That response was concerning. If the issues had already been documented and submitted to the factory in October, there should have been a record of what was being replaced.
After that January visit, we were told the photos and videos would be submitted to the factory again. It has now been weeks since that visit, and despite multiple follow-up messages requesting updates, we have received no response.
At this point, the issue is not factory delays. It is the lack of communication, documentation, and follow-through -- especially after full payment has been made.
We have been patient since October and have given multiple opportunities for resolution. Unfortunately, being paid in full appears to have been the turning point in responsiveness.
If you decide to work with JMK Shutters, I strongly recommend ensuring all work is completed and documented to your satisfaction before submitting final payment. read more
