"My reason for coming to APT was to address a mild scoliosis. This causes severe muscle tension throughout my shoulders and neck and affects my breathing and posture. I have had much body work through the years to help deal with the muscle tension. However, the benefits of being worked on are always temporary and have not helped me deal with the tension on my own. When I saw that APT offered a program for scoliosis, I decided to try it. At 73, I did not expect to correct the scoliosis but thought it could help me learn how to minimize tension, improve my breathing and posture. I got what I came for. As a retired physical therapist, I knew that there had to be some way to work with my physical problems and I felt that I should be able to figure it out on my own. After years of trying, I had about given up. What I've learned at APT is in many ways counter intuitive and actually contradicts some of what I had been taught and how I had practiced for years. Like many, I "know all about" core strength, and have "taught" it for years as a physical therapist and a yoga teacher, and have tried to engage my core strength in Pilates and other exercise classes. What I have learned is that building core strength, at least for me, is a lot more complicated than I realized. My home exercise program challenges me, requires perseverance and mindfulness, and it is definitely helping my breathing, my posture, my strength, and my muscle tension, not to mention my general outlook. I finally have found specific things I can do to improve the way I feel. Don't come to APT if you don't want to do your part in achieving health and well-being. You are expected to pull your share of the load after learning how to do that. The atmosphere at APT is calm, welcoming, and personal. Patient care and outcome are the guiding principles. My therapist is well trained, very experienced and knowledgeable, compassionate, and interested in empowering me to solve my problems. I highly recommend these folks... Several years ago, before my therapy with Joe at Advanced PT, my knee problem had gotten to the level of severity that I seriously feared I would not be able to continue using any stairs (even stairs with a good handrail) ... Now, not only do I not think twice about stairs, I can run.. jog.. squat.. walk as much as I'd like, and my knee can do most anything a healthy 53 year-old knee can do.... I, also, was having some lower back discomfort (that I thought I'd have to live with because I thought it was age-related) that resolved itself because of the thorough/postural restoration aspect of this therapy... I am Very Grateful! Joe has outstanding knowledge of, and experience with, body mechanics in addition to an excellent sense of the transformative power of activating the body's healing subtle energies through relaxation breath-work and inner-focus type healing techniques. I would advise to do error on the side of caution when doing your homework maneuvers as the techniques can have more effect than they seem like, and (I had a minor, short-lived setback from stretching my back too far at home and overdoing one of the assignments) as Joe said (with the therapy) "softer" is actually better and if one maneuver induces much discomfort, Joe can find an equally effective alternative maneuver read more

I came to work with Nancy Toole at APT because my shoulders had been slipping out of the socket intermittently for years. Yikes! This last year, kickboxing made the pain very acute, and I needed a solution. After getting x rays and learning that a surgery solution was not the way to go, I began working with Nancy. I learned that I was hyper-mobile, and that almost every time I extended my arms (to kickbox, to pick up laundry detergent, to hug someone), I was actually hyperextending and not using the right muscles. It's only been about 2 months, and this issue that has been plaguing me for YEARS is already very much under control. The exercises she gave me were incredibly specific to my needs; I feel listened to, and physically very safe & comfortable at all times - this is clearly a priority. She always explains everything very well (which I love), and is incredibly knowledgeable. If something doesn't feel right to me, she can quickly and easily pivot to a different exercise that does! I am already back to kickboxing, and will my new body posture, knowledge, and muscles, I have no pain. Because this was so successful, I am continuing to stick around to do some overall postural restoration work - they are all related, and who knows how much more healthy and comfortable my body could be! I was a healthy, active 54 year old who exercised daily and never had a serious issue of any kind. For no apparent reason, I began to have foot pain which led to hip pain and back pain and a decrease in function that was alarming to me. I tried many things to treat my pain and saw a series of doctors and physical therapists for 2 years with no improvement. Through Postural Restoration, I learned exercises that would immediately help my pain and enable me to move better. I had 10 sessions at Advance Physical Therapy with Molly Miller over the last 8 months. I had 3 goals, and we accomplished all of my goals during that time and really improved my quality of life. I went from being in pain nearly 75% of the time, down to less than 10%. I received phenomenal care and treatment. My favorite thing about PT with Molly was that every treatment was made to be integrated into my daily life. There were no daily exercises, but rather changes to how I stood, sat, moved, and functioned every day. This was not only much easier to implement than exercises that most PTs provide, but also had a faster, longer lasting, and more dramatic impact! Everyone in the office was incredibly friendly. The atmosphere was welcoming to everyone, and booking and paying for appointments was very easy. A friend of a friend recommended APT for therapy for my scoliosis as she was very happy with the therapy she received for her scoliosis. Because of COVID-19, my sessions have all been through teletherapy. I was skeptical about the effectiveness of this method of communicating because I thought I would need "hands-on" help in performing the exercises with the proper form. I was also skeptical that PT alone would help me much with my posture and lower back pain. Surprise! Jean Masse was able to observe and coach me to overcome all my errors in form and push me through the steadily more difficult exercises I was taught over several weeks. Although I am about half way to my graduation, I already see a much more straight posture and have much less stiffness and pain in my lower back. Like another reviewer, I have had lifelong scoliosis. I have had chronic pain for the last 9 years. I just struggled along because initially I did not have good insurance coverage and could not afford it, then with Medicare I was afraid to see a doctor because I was terrified that I would need surgery. I very fortunately found out about Jean Massé at Advance Physical Therapy. She is terrific (and funny, too). I am about halfway through the number of sessions she thinks I will need. While I still have pain, it is definitely less than before and I can do simple things that I was unable to do in the past (like walk for more than 10 minutes!). I am very hopeful that by the end of my treatment, I will be able to do a lot of things I missed out on for 9 years. My quality of life is already better. A running friend recommended Joe Belding, PT, PRC for helping me transition from a sitting desk to a stand-up desk. I was having trouble with facet and sacroiliac joint pain and discovered I was more comfortable standing than sitting, but I wanted to make sure my posture was appropriate for standing. I liked working with Joe because he provided exercises with written instructions, explained and took me through the exercises until I could do them correctly, and provided measurable goals. He monitored my progress and rechecked my execution of the exercises. He added exercises and removed exercises as I progressed. I appreciated his punctuality and the professionalism of everyone I encountered at the office. I know that if I have the need for physical therapy again in the future, I will look to Joe for help. read more

I got excellent results from the physical therapy I received from Jean Masse and continue getting benefits using personal training with Beth Elder. Beth is knowledgeable about postural restoration and everything related to body mechanics. Her workouts with me support the physical therapy I did with Jean. She explains everything so well and is responsive to my needs and preferences. So positively affirming and I honestly believe her when she says we'll have fun. I've been doing personal training using Zoom since the pandemic started and don't feel I'm missing a thing. She's able to give me a great workout and instruction even though we are not physically together. Most knowledgeable and patient therapists I have worked with. I had received PT at 2 other clinics over the course of 2 years, as well as chiropractic care, for treatment of chronic mid-back pain with very limited improvement . Luckily I found Susan H, who is a Postural Restoration Certified PT , at Advance, and with her skill and knowledge my pain is significantly better. I continue to improve after each session and I drive over 5 hours to receive therapy here, every couple months, because it is so effective. I saw Jean Masse for pain due to scoliosis. On my first visit I walked out of her office with a 90% reduction in pain. I followed her exercise program (TOTALLY DIFFERENT from routine physical therapy) and have managed to stay with reduced pain and even days of NO PAIN! Best of all, I'm able to maintain this level of pain reduction since my therapy sessions ended. I rarely take NSAID's. I've told anybody that will listen that has back pain to get a referral to their office. Beth Elder is simply the best. I've worked with many trainers in my life, and Beth is not only incredibly knowledgable and professional, she is also supremely fun and lovely to work with. I'm a lazy type who hates exercise, and she has helped me so much, including finding plenty of exercises I can do for my bum knees. Joe listened well and was very patient with my questions. With his instruction, I learned how to help myself get short term pain relief for an acute muscle/skeletal problem. Drawing from multiple disciplines, Joe also taught me what I could do to reduce the risk of future recurrence, without the use of (allopathic) drugs. Once it was clear my symptoms had resolved, and I had a decent mastery of his self-care counsel, he suggested I only return on an "as-needed" basis. Good experience for me.
